The Memphis head coach won his ring as a player on the 1996-97 Arizona team that took the 1997 NCAA title. • In the 1997 NCAA championship game, Arizona defeated Kentucky 84-79 in overtime. A player on that 1996-97 Kentucky team was current Samford assistant coach Scott Padgett. • Padgett is the Bulldogs’ staff member with an NCAA title. Padgett helped lead Kentucky to the 1998 national championship. FORMER PAC-10 RIVALS MEET AGAIN • Saturday’s game features an old Pac-10 (now Pac-12) Conference rivalry between Memphis head coach Josh Pastner (Arizona) and Samford assistant coach Yasir Rosemond (Oregon). • Pastner was a player, staff member and assistant coach at Arizona from 1996-2008. Rosemond played at Oregon from 1997-99 and served on the Ducks staff from 2005-10. • In the seasons in which both were at their respective schools, Pastner held a narrow 6-4 edge in those meetings. staff. Collins helped lead the Golden Eagles to four-straight, 20-win seasons (96-45 record), four-consecutive NCAA Tournaments and two NCAA Tournament Sweet 16 appearances. • The two seasons (2006-07, 2007-08) prior to Collins’ time in Milwaukee, Seltzer was a member of Tom Crean’s staff at Marquette. In his two years with the Golden Eagles, Seltzer helped the program earn two NCAA Tournament berths. FEDEXFORUM NEWBIES • Samford is the second of six teams that will make their first trips to FedExForum this year. • North Florida was the first FedExForum newbie this season when it played on the Tigers’ homecourt Nov. 12 (81-66 Memphis win). • The other four visiting programs that will play for the first time in FedExForum this season are Ohio Dec. 5, Oral Roberts Dec. 28, Loyola (Md.) Dec. 30 and Harvard Jan. 19. • Last year, the Tigers hosted four FedExForum newbies and posted a 3-1 record in those contests. Memphis had wins over Belmont, Robert Morris and Xavier and a loss to Murray State.
