GOT LIFE How To Be Strong In The Lord? Scripture setting: 1 Corinthians 12:22-27 and Matthew 7:24-27. Scripture text: 1 Corinthians 12:24-25 and Matthew 7:24-25.

You can only be strong in the Lord through unity, which is when you are together! That is what Paul was talking about when God had tempered or carefully put together 1st Corinthians 12:24. When you are in unity, you will be strong together! Unity is that which gives you strength. You must do things God's way and not man's way so that your unity will be strong. Unity is like the pieces of a puzzle that's put together. When you put unity together, you will hear the word of Jesus! And then, when you'll do this, you will be just like a wise man who builds his house on a rock, Matthew 7:24. That is what Matthew 7:25 talks about. Now nothing will happen to the house which is you because you are the temple, I Corinthians 3:16. But now if you hear the sayings of Jesus and won't obey them, you will be liken unto a foolish man because you would

!

have built your house on sand (Matthew 7:26), meaning that you are not in unity with God in the body of Christ. So that means that Matthew 7:27 won't happen for you, which says that only a wise man is strong in the Lord. At times when you are obeying God, you are going to get hurt, suffer and go through some pain, trials and tribulations all for the good only in the Lord. It is said that there should not be schism or division in the body, I Corinthians 12:25. It is said that if one suffers, all will suffer with them, I Corinthians 12:26. Also, when you are in unity with God, you will have a fear or reverence for Him and because of this, you will obey him, Psalms 86:11. Unity is also the same as a team! When you work together, you are a team. Unity will help you to do that which God wants you to do. Your steps will be ordered by the Lord, Proverbs 16:9.

A Writer Of God's Word Who Encourages People, Ray Dodd Jr.

Breakthrough! One of the draw backs of being a “church baby” is the propensity to make any moment a churchy moment or spiritual revelation, even if jokingly doing so. On the first Sunday of this new year Bishop Perry preached a message entitled “Breakthrough!” In that message reiterated over and over that New Life needed to hold to on the new year message of 2015, “I Am Blessed”, while believing God that 2016 will be a year of breakthrough in each of our lives. As she preached she mentioned many things that people need or may desire to break free from. Most things were spiritual in nature, though could relate to natural emotional and relational issues. However, the one that caught my attention (maybe I was in a very carnal mind set at the time) was when she said, while walking towards my row, “If your breakthrough is you need to loose weight, then loose weight!” Continue on page 7

BEING CONFIDENT Bishop Brenda K. Perry, Sr. Pastor of NLTC

This coming April New Life Temple Church will be celebrating the Church’s 40th anniversary. Our theme is “Crossing over Jordon”, Joshua 1:11. Here God commanded the people to cross over Jordon and possess the land. This year the body of New Life can look back and see where the Lord has brought them from with great celebration of praise and worship. The Church was founded in the year of 1976 by the late Bishop James Kilgore. The first Pastor was the late Daniel Calk, the son in-law of Bishop Kilgore. The first three and a half years Pastor Daniel Calk pastored this new body of believers. At that times the Church was named Life Temple. Allow me to share a bit of history from the past 40 years. In April 1976 God spoke to Pastor James L. Kilgore and impressed upon him to begin a work in the South Park area of Houston. Pastor Kilgore responded immediately to God’s prompting by appointing his assistant, Reverend Daniel Calk, to begin looking for a Church building. This building

!

MARCH/ APRIL 2016 was purchased with a small down payment and placed into the hands of Pastor James L. Kilgore. May 2, 1976 the first service was held. It was stated, “The atmosphere was free with worship, but there was also an air of uncertainty. The first offering taken up was a Mission Offering. There were approximately 35-40 persons present.” Those that are with us today (2016) are Kathryn Bates, Clayton Bates, David Bates, Pamlar Clark, Nancy Atkins, Marva Coney, Roy Clark and Ray Dodd. To God be the glory. From the start of Life Temple to January 13th 1980, the following are some things that were achieved: A choir was formed under Bro. William Betton; Outreach Ministry; “Search for Truth” in Home Bible Study; First tent revival speakers were Evangelist Pastor Joe W. Perry and Pastor Samuel Earl. Souls that came to the Lord were Sis. Cheryl Bailey and Sis. Lusendra Bryant, both received the Holy Ghost and was baptized in Jesus’ name. In 1979 Life Temple experienced a mayor flooding to the building which caused renovation to the platform; The Church’s first inside Revival speaker was Evangelist Pastor Joe W. Perry. In the year of 1980, January 13th Pastor Joe W. Perry became the new Pastor. Accompanying him was his wife, Sis. Brenda K. Perry, along with their daughter Melinda. In this same year 1980, and in the month of April,

a day before Resurrection Sunday, we brought forth a baby girl name Melissa Renee to be added to our family and the family of Life Temple. As history continues: Bishop Joe W. Perry served as Sr. Pastor from January 13, 1980 until October 15, 1998. Here are a few achievements from many achievements under this administration. In 1980 the Church name changed from Life Temple to New Life Temple; Bus Ministry. The following ministries and fellowships were established: Prison Ministry, Tape Ministry, Children’s Church Ministry, and Radio Broadcast (here is where Mother Granny Williams came to NLT); Vacation Bible School; Marriage retreats, Church Family Vacations. Also, Pastor Joe W. Perry set up a Church Board of Directors, Church Treasurer, Church Secretary, Sunday School Superintendent and Youth Directors. Additionally the New Life Temple Voices of Praise was given an opportunity to sing at the General Conference in Oklahoma City. The Church supported over 120 Mission workers. Before Apartheid was over, Bishop Perry had taken a group of 10 or so to South Africa. The late Derrick Hubbard began his ministry in South Africa under Bishop Joe W. Perry. One of the greatest accomplishments Continue on page

that was achieved was the new sanctuary building that was built in September 1984. To God be the glory. In the year of 1998, in the month of October, Bishop Joe W. Perry installs Co-Pastor Brenda K Perry as Senior Pastor of New Life Temple Church. I can truly say I do humbly follow behind three great men of God today, late Bishop James L. Kilgore, late Daniel Calk, and Apostle Joe W. Perry. To God be the glory in His sustaining power that have kept me in the highs and the low times of life. To God be the glory for what He has done in my life. I can’t live without Jesus Christ my Lord and Savior. When God called me into ministering His Word around 1983-1984 I never ever dreamed of Shepherding God’s flocks of believers. I know for sure God’s righteous right hand has upheld me, and grace follows me. Being a Pastor is not an easy task, however it is not an impossible one either. So I

surrender my life to His will and purpose, and if there’s any glory I give it all to God. Here are a few achievements under my administration as Senior Pastor. Establishing an Elders and Deacons Ministry; In-Touch ministry… making our guess feel welcome and at home; Live Streaming; NLEC 501c3… reaching into the community with programs such as Senior Connection, age 60 plus, and “Together We Build”… funds raising for purchasing surrounding property and a new edifice. Our first offering after 4 month of campaigning was over $56,000, outside of regular offering. We have purchased 4 lots which increase our land area. Yearly the Outreach Ministry sponsors a “Back to School Community Festival”….school supplies are distributed. Our newest ministry is “Beautiful Butterfly” which mentors young girls ages 10-18. I had the privilege in ordaining Fredrick L. Mosley as

Pastor. Apostle Derrick Hubbard’s work in Kenya, Africa opened the doors for New Life. Pastor Melinda is our ambassador for the countries in Africa. Our head covering is Shiloh Temple International Ministry, the Honorable Bishop Richard D. Howell. So we will sing praises and give worship unto our God for what He has done. I pray that people that have graced the doors of New Life in the city, out of the city, near and far will come and celebrate the history of New Life Temple Church. From this celebration we will cross over to greater promises that will unfold for the believers of New Life. For what has been accomplished and achieved here at NLTC, through the lives of men and women, we give all the honor and praise unto our God who is loving, awesome and great. Thank you Jesus for what you have done through us.

New Life Ministries Words from our ministries

Happy New Year!

fast and go before the Lord in prayer. Nehemiah understood the challenges ahead. When faced with adversities, is praying and fasting our initial Sis. Sharon Clay reaction? Take note of his Singles Ministry prayer (Neh. 1:3-11). Nehemiah, Director in the presence of King Artaxerxes, was troubled and was recognized by the King. “The king said to me, “What is it you want?” Then I prayed to Who is Nehemiah? He was the God of heaven, and I a cupbearer to King Artaxerxes, answered the king, “If it pleases a faithful servant, a man of the king and if your servant has prayer, and a man of faith who found favor in his sight, let him had excellent leadership skills, send me to the city in Judah and a balanced life. While where my ancestors are buried serving under King Artaxerxes so that I can rebuild it.” (Neh. he inquired of the Israelites 2:4-5) Upon presenting his plan that had returned from of action to the king, captivity to Jerusalem. His Nehemiah found favor with heart grieved him to hear that God, and with the king, and the they were in trouble, and the king gave him the tools he wall had been broken and needed to get to his destination burned. The condition of the to begin his assignment. What wall reflected the condition of an awesome God! the people. The wall Let’s look at chapter 2 and represented security and verse 10. Upon hearing that without it one is made Nehemiah was going to rebuild vulnerable. What makes you the wall, check out how vulnerable? I can honestly say the lack of being in God’s word Sanballat and Tobiah reacted. Oh, oh, wait a minute! Didn’t and in prayer. God honor Nehemiah’s prayer Nehemiah wept (normal by giving him favor with the reaction), and in weeping he king, etc.? Yes, he did! But knew this would be a time to God didn’t just answer him, he !

needed to be able to trust Nehemiah with his assignment. (The assignment is in Nehemiah 2: 17-18: Then I said to them, “You see the distress that we are in, how Jerusalem lies waste, and its gates are burned with fire. Come and let us build the wall of Jerusalem, that we may no longer be a reproach.” 18 And I told them of the hand of my God which had been good upon me, and also of the king’s words that he had spoken to me. So they said, “Let us rise up and build.” Then they set their hands to this good work.) What better way to know what we’re made of, and to say we trust God but to come face to face with distractions. Sanballat and Tobiah set out to destroy Nehemiah. (Chapter 4:1-23; 6:1-14) Also in praying, seek to have the spirit of discernment. Adversaries are on the outside as well as the inside. Nehemiah 6:10-13 states, “One day I went to the house of Shemaiah, son of Delaiah, the son of Mehetabel,

The Harvest is Plentiful

Sis. Cherie Hill, Outreach Director

“Then He said to His disciples, “The harvest truly is plentiful, but the laborers are few. Therefore pray the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest.” (Matthew 9:37-38) There has always been and will be a need of workers in the Lord’s harvest. If it was not so then the word of God would have never told us to ask. As I look at this generation today, I see more people are being less like Christ. I see love running dry, division in churches, desire for sin, Saints afraid to leave the four walls, hard to get workers, no witnessing and the list can go on. It’s not a secret that the Lord is recruiting workers for the harvest. So why do we as Christians run to the Lord for a job? We don’t have to run to the Lord to see about openings, he called us first. 1Peter 2:9 tells us that we are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praise of him who called you out of darkness into His wonderful light. !

MARCH/ APRIL 2016 We, as Christians, should thank God daily for calling us out of darkness. And you should know that the Lord did not call you just to be calling you. It was for His purpose, to do His will, and to work in His harvest. He has a special position for you with your name on it, before the foundations of the world that only you can fill. Ephesians 1:4 states, “…for he chose us in him before the foundation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight. In love he predestined us for adoption to son ship through Jesus Christ, in accordance with his pleasure and will.” Whatever God has called you to do, he has also ordained. So go, and be fruitful. Think back to the time you first fell in love with the most High. Yep, that was probably right around the time he called you out of the dark. I know it was for me. I thought to myself, who is this almighty God that can make me change my ways, that can change my talk, my walk, who open blind eyes, took away evil desire, changed my thoughts and wrapped me in his love? I wanted more of him and more of pleasing him. Never did I think I would be working in His harvest, but here I am working with joy. If only we can go back to that time of loving on Him. Always abiding in His love. Don’t let your love run dry for Jesus. It’s the love of God and for His people that he commanded us to have that’s

going to give you a submissive heart and an obedient spirit. Ask God to give you a “yes” in your spirit and renew your love for him because God is calling you higher. direction in years except to make changes at the Metro Center stop, which was about 14 stops away. Lesson to self, just because you know...double check to make sure you really know what you think you know. The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few. He has already given you the burden, now surrender. Get up, arise out of your sleep. While it is day the night cometh when no man can work. We should thank God for that person who surrendered to God and prayed for us or witnessed to us. Lord, I thank you for giving them a “yes” spirit because their “yes” got me here today, walking in victory. As I look at Apostle Paul’s life, and I saw how God removed the scales from his eyes. He then had a love for Jesus. He surrendered his life, picked up his cross and followed God. His love for God was so strong persecution would not keep him from doing the will of God. Paul was called just like you and I, and surrendered to the calling that God ordained for him. We might not be called to do exactly what Paul was called to do, but remember the harvest is plentiful and the laborers are few. God has a position waiting on you. PAGE 6

(discernment), but that he had prophesied against me because who was shut in at his home. Tobiah and Sanballat had hired He said, “Let us meet in the him. He had been hired to house of God, inside the intimidate me so that I would temple, and let us close the temple doors, because men are commit a sin by doing this, and then they would give me a bad coming to kill you—by night name to discredit me. they are coming to kill you.” But I said, “Should a man like Remember Tobiah and Sanballat, my God, because of me run away? Or should what they have done; someone like me go into the remember also the prophet temple to save his life? I will Noadiah and how she and the not go!” I realized that God rest of the prophets have been had not sent him trying to intimidate me.” Weight continued from page 1

My God I caught that one by the neck and refused to let it go! Now, I’m sure some people will think I’m acting like my father on this or being extremely carnal about a very serious message. But being very serious, when I heard Bishop say that I could loose weight if I asked God to help me breakthrough in this area, I replied, “I’m loosing weight.” That night I set forth a plan to loose the excessive weight (yes, the weight that is not needed for my height or frame is excess) that I had managed to gain over the past 3 years, slowly but continually. I had to get back to the 127 pounds of my late 20s and early 3os, and fit neatly in my size 6 clothes that had been on lock down for a while now in the closet. !

I realized that I was in dire need of shedding this weight that I had passively allowed to accumulate on my average size frame when one Sunday I went to put on a skirt reserved for brief pulpit duties or when preaching at my home church. All four of my skirts had become a laborious task to put on over the past few years, but if I sucked it in real hard and wore a long shirt or blouse I could endure the torment of being in what had become corsets. But on this particular Sunday I fought desperately to get the skirt up, when I heard that dreaded sound. Nothing is more painful for me or can bring me to tears like the sound of the ripping of my clothes. Though depressed, I did little about the problem. But when Bishop said if you want to loose weight then loose it, I determined I would!

Distractions could very well be an opportunity for you to know God in ways unimaginable. There is still more to this story: Neh. 2:11-20 – An assignment favored by God Neh. 4:1-3 - Ridiculed Neh. 4:13-23 – Encouraged and Equipped Neh. 6:15 – Complete your assignment It’s amazing how many of the things we need to break free from are things that slowly attach themselves to us. They don’t happen over night. They don’t rush at us. If they did we would be able to spot it and correct it right away. The habits, mind set, behavior slowly attaches to us with no real discomfort or distractions. It’s not until we experience the rip, a response that we never imagined to happen to us, that we realize we allowed things to go too far. But as Bishop said, if we really ask God for help we will breakthrough. The journey to “March#127” has taught me a few things, and I hope I learn a lot more. But one thing is for sure, I’m not willing to endure any more discomfort just to fit into a skirt. No, more..! PAGE 7
