The Link Ever found yourself on campus after all the buildings have closed? Did you know that your EagleOne card gives you access to the Link (the connecting building between Randolph and Mason Halls) 24/7? The Link has a beautiful lounge with a view of downtown and a ski-lodge ambiance. Comfortable couches provide the perfect place for napping between classes, and a microwave makes it a great alternative place to warm up your lunch! For those of you with classes on the Combs/Trinkle side of campus, this might be an especially convenient hang-out location.

Feature a Commuter: Matthew Tovar Congratulations to Matthew Tovar, this month’s featured commuter! Matthew is a Freshman majoring in Biochemistry on a pre-med track. He was nominated by Caitlin Ward, who said: “While staying on top of all of his school work in order to maintain straight A's, Matt is a member of premed and is the blood drive coordinator for the University's Red Cross. On top of his academics and club responsibilities, he still finds time to volunteer with the Stafford County Fire and Rescue squad when he is not working weekend nights at Stafford hospital. Matt is truly the most compassionate and selfless person I know who is willing to help in any way he can although he keeps a pretty busy plate!” Check out what Matthew had to tell us about his commuter experience: Hometown? Originally Panama City, Panama. Now I call Stafford, VA home.

Campus Involvements? I am currently a part of the pre-med club and UMW’s Red Cross chapter. I am the blood drive coordinator for the Red Cross. Favorite thing about UMW? My favorite thing about UMW is the relationship the professors have with the students. All of my professors know me by name and are very gracious with their help and the opportunities for research they provide. Favorite thing about being a commuter? My favorite thing about being a commuter is honestly the adventure of driving to and from school everyday. Advice to other commuters? Always make sure to remember where you put your keys! (I lost mine on the first day of college…) Other facts you’d like to share? I’ve been an EMT since I was 16, and I want to eventually be a neurosurgeon specializing in finding a cure for neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s disease. Thanks for being our Featured Commuter this month, Matt! You demonstrate the dedication and welcoming spirit that we hope all of our students to cultivate.
