1958 Edsel Pacer Convertible 361/303 HP, Automatic LOT S58 Flush with ambition after a successful turnaround from its late-40s doldrums, Ford management conceived a new line of cars to take direct aim at GM’s mid-market lineup that collectively sold almost 2 million cars in 1955. By the time of its introduction, however, Ford’s new Edsel Division faced a shrinking market that would seal its fortunes. The passing years have shown more kindness to the Edsel, which now basks in the appreciation of a nationwide community of admirers. Pricier and better equipped than its Ranger stable mate, the Edsel Pacer was powered by the E400 361/303 HP engine based on Ford’s Y-block V-8, with an optional automatic with steering wheel hub pushbutton controls. The 1958 Pacer convertible offered here is sharply finished in two-tone Ember Red and Silver Grey, a pairing nicely accented by the Red and Gold spinner centers on its full-size hubcaps. One of only 1,876 built, it shows just 64,323 believedactual miles and is generously optioned with a Black power top, power steering and brakes, power antenna, tissue dispenser and wide whitewall tires.
