Blithe Spirit LDS Production Monday 10 – Saturday 15 September 2018, 7:30pm Saturday Matinée 2:30pm By Noël Coward Directed by John Bale Classic Comedy Standard: £15.00 Premium: £16.00 Concessions: £13.50

4

Do you believe in ghosts? When eccentric psychic Madame Arcati delves into the unknown, Charles finds himself caught between the spirit of his first wife Elvira and his new spouse Ruth. Two’s company but three is definitely a crowd and things will never be quite the same again. Noël Coward described Blithe Spirit as an improbable farce, full of incessant wit and elegant charm. Made famous as a film in 1945 starring Rex Harrison and Margaret Rutherford and recently revived on the West End stage with Angela Lansbury, we are delighted to open our new season with this Coward classic. This amateur production of “Blithe Spirit” is presented by special arrangement with SAMUEL FRENCH, LTD.

Ayckbourn’s comic masterpiece of social climbing in 1970s suburbia. The Hopcrofts, the Brewster-Wrights and the Jacksons are three ill matched couples, celebrating in their kitchens on three successive Christmas Eves. Watch the rise of the lower-class Sydney Hopcroft as the others literally dance to his tune. This play earned Ayckbourn his first Evening Standard award for best comedy. Best known for his television sitcoms The Good Life and A Fine Romance, Bob Larbey’s A Month of Sundays tells the story of Cooper and his friend Aylott who are determined to grow old disgracefully. When the play premiered in 1985, it won the Evening Standard award for best new comedy and this warm and funny piece maintains an enduring appeal.

The Pitmen Painters LDS Production Monday 12 – Saturday 17 November 2018, 7:30pm Saturday Matinée 2:30pm By Lee Hall Directed by Paul Beasley Charming and Funny True Story Standard: £15.00 Premium: £16.00 Concessions: £13.50

In 1934 a Northumberland Workers’ Educational Association group, composed predominantly of miners, hired a university lecturer from Newcastle to teach them ‘something different’– the finer points of art appreciation. What resulted was that instead of studying the Arts and Crafts movement, the men instead found the art in their own craft and ‘The Ashington Group’ became a widely renowned and lauded group of artists in their own right. This charming, funny and touching play by the writer of Billy Elliott tells the story of how these remarkable men first discovered art and eventually grew to prominence. This amateur production of “The Pitmen Painters” is presented by special arrangement with SAMUEL FRENCH, LTD.

By the author of Dial M for Murder, Wait Until Dark has held audiences on the edge of their seats since its long West End and Broadway runs in 1966 and the film starring Audrey Hepburn. Suzy, a blind woman, faces a group of conmen hatching a scam. As the tension mounts she is left to fend for herself, but with the phone line cut and the house in darkness can she outwit the murderous visitors? “A master class in suspense.” West End Review. “A masterfully constructed thriller.” New York Telegraph. Bedford Falls in 1940s America. George Bailey, a small-town clerk, faces financial ruin and feels his world crumbling beneath his feet. Pantomime

Mother Goose an Egg-straordinary tale of one woman’s search for true happiness. In the village of Goose-Pimple-Upon-the-Pond, the Good Fairy Tranquil-Heart presents Mother Goose with the magical gift of a golden-egg-laying goose, Priscilla. In an attempt to rule Fairy Land the Evil Discontent tempts Mother Goose with the lure of beauty in exchange for the enchanted goose. Scrambled Egg Warning: this may not end well. Join Mother Goose and her family as they travel to Goose-QuillAbove-the-Clouds, an enchanted land of snow and ice, a place where true happiness can be found and all the ‘best-laid’ egg plans are sure to end ‘sunny side up’. All of the usual traditional Pantomime ingredients will be beaten into an ‘egg-citing’ omelette of mirth, music and mayhem. Prepare to be dazzled with stunning costumes and colourful scenery. Expect laughs aplenty with the return of John Bale as Mother Goose. We don’t know about you... but we can’t wait!
