The mission of the Pelham Senior Center is to positively impact our community by creating opportunities for healthy aging through social engagement, physical well-being, civic involvement and lifelong learning. The Pelham Senior Center provides opportunities for individuals 55 and older living in Pelham/Shelby County to improve their talents, enrich their minds, give service in the community, develop meaningful friendships, and help maintain physical health through health and wellness. C OVID-19 Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the Governor’s Safer At Home order, program modifications to class size and participant to instructor ratios are in place. In addition, all program participants are encouraged to wear face coverings and practice social distancing during their participation, until the orders expire. As we move through the various phases outlined by the Governor, we will continue to evaluate programming to determine necessary modifications and/or additions to allow us to provide recreational and entertainment options with an emphasis on community health and safety, so please expect updates as we go.

Day: Tuesday Dates: September 1 - December 15 Cost: $5 Time: 5:30 p.m. - 6:30 p.m. Age: 14 & Up Location: Pelham Recreation Center Barre is a low impact, energizing workout that has proven to create long, lean, powerful muscles and increase flexibility. Classes include the use of the ballet barre, hand weights, resistance bands, and exercise balls. Exercises typically focus on small, pulsing movements with emphasis on form, alignment, and core engagement. Please bring your own yoga mat. All levels are welcome and encouraged!

During In-Trinity, participants move through traditional yoga stretches and martial arts agility sequences while elevated on a unique fitness board. This class is for all fitness levels. Please bring your own yoga mat.

Day: Thursday Dates: September 3 - December 17 Cost: $5 Time: 6:35 p.m. – 7:25 p.m. Age: 14 & Up Location: Pelham Recreation Center Kickboxing is a high energy workout that combines karate moves with boxing moves paced to lively music in order to build endurance, increase flexibility, enhance coordination and smash calories. It’s a fun and challenging non-contact workout that can be easily adapted for any gender, age or fitness level.

Day: Saturday Dates: September 5 - December 19 Cost: $5 Time: 8:30 a.m. - 9:30 a.m. Age: 14 & Up Location: Pelham Recreation Center This low impact workout format defines your entire body with an emphasis on the shoulders, arms, core and glutes. All fitness levels welcome.

Yoga practice helps reduce stress and tension and improves balance, flexibility and core strength. No experience is needed for this free morning exercise class. Please bring a yoga mat or beach towel and water. Classes cancelled due to rain will not be rescheduled. No pre-registration required.

Choose between a 3 mile route or 4 mile route. It’s an out and back so walkers could shorten, if needed for a beginner. Route is stroller friendly. Route includes a short distance on the road, so no unattended children please. No pre-registration required.

Day: Tuesday & Thursday Dates: August - October Cost: $80 Time: 6:00 p.m. or later Age: Entering grades 3-8 Location: Pelham Recreation Center The Program will be run by Pelham Parks & Recreation with the guidance of the Middle School and High School Coaches. Evaluations will be held on Tuesday, August 25. Online Registration: July 27 - August 28

PELHAM BOYS FALL YOUTH BASEBALL

Day: Any Dates: September 21 - October 30 Cost: $80 Time: 6:00 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. Age: 5-14 (boys) Location: Multiple Parks Fall baseball is a less competitive learning program. Participants must be between the ages of 5-14 by May 1, 2021. Games and practices will be played during the week in the evening. Practices will begin the week of August 24. Day: Any Dates: September 21- October 30 Cost: $80 Time: 6:00 p.m. Age: 4 year olds Location: City Park Fields 5 & 6 T-ball is the perfect introduction to baseball and softball for younger players. Our instructional program helps children develop the primary skills of hitting, running, ďŹ elding and throwing in a fun and active environment. Players begin to learn the basic rules of the game while also building self-esteem and learning sportsmanship and teamwork. Please bring a water bottle and glove to each practice. Games and practices will be held during the week against teams from Alabaster, Calera, Helena and Montevallo. Participants must be 4 on or before September 1, 2020. Day: Sunday Dates: October 11 and November 8 Cost: $15 Time: 1:30 p.m. - 2:30 p.m. Age: 10-15 Location: Pelham Recreation Center These classes will introduce children to a new type of art! Choose between two simple holiday patterns and design your own piece of art using a painted canvas and broken, colored recycled glass. Once completed, the art will be finished with a shiny resin. All supplies are included. No experience necessary. Come be creative, make new friends and learn something new. Note - Art will need at least 24 hours to dry and will be ready to pick up the following day. Space limited to 6. Day: Tuesday (6 weeks) Dates: September1- October 6 Cost: $2.00 Time: 11:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. Age: 18+ Location: Pelham Recreation Center This class is for experienced beginners (between beginner and intermediate). Students have mastered more complex steps and count changes with syncopation. Routines are 32 count, 48 count or 64 count. Dances are set to music and may include turns, multiple tags and secondary upper body movements. Registration online or at the Recreation Center. Online registration will open the Monday prior to the class.

NEW! LINE DANCING (INTERMEDIATE)

Day: Tuesday (6 weeks) Dates: September1 - October 6 Cost: $2.00 Time: 9:30 a.m. - 10:30 a.m. Age: 18+ Location: Pelham Recreation Center This class is for those who have been dancing for some time and have mastered complicated steps and upper body movements. Routines are 32 count, 48 county or 64 count. Music can be faster with multiple restarts and tags. In this class, the step combinations become less repetitive and have more variety. Intermediate dances offer varying degrees of challenge. Registration online or at the Recreation Center. Online registration will open the Monday prior to the class. Day: Sunday Dates: September 13 Cost: FREE Time: 5:00 p.m. Age: All/Family Location: Pelham City Park Is anyone else feeling a bit bored lately? If so we’ve got a fun and safe activity to do with your family. You will meet at City Park on Sunday, September 13 and we will use Facebook Live to communicate with you. The scavenger hunt clues will be posted on our Facebook page at 5:10pm. The clues will take you to various landmarks around the city. You will take pictures at each clue and at the end of the evening post your photos on our Facebook event page. Everyone who participates in the scavenger hunt will be entered to win a gift card from a local restaurant. The winner will be announced on Facebook the day following the event. Space will be limited to the first 50 cars. No Registration Required September 1 - 11

Day: Sunday Dates: October 18 Cost: $15.00 Time: 1:30 p.m.– 4:30 p.m. Age: 18+ Location: Pelham Recreation Center Join us for a fun afternoon of line dancing led by instructors Jackie Tally and Faye Smitherman. You will learn two new beginner and two new “improver” dances and there will be time for dancing your favorites between instruction. Pre-registration is required. Day: Saturday Dates: November 14 Cost: $20.00 Time: 8:00 a.m. Age: All Ages Location: Outdoor Pavilion behind Recreation Center This annual 5k in Pelham takes runners on a flat course around the city’s growing recreation facilities along Cahaba Valley Creek. • Cash prizes for the top three male and female finishers. • Age group awards for the top three male and female finishers: • Finisher medals for every participant. • Award ceremony 9:15am at the Recreation Center pavilion. • Race t-shirt for all participants who register before October 31, 2020. NOTE: No dogs or strollers allowed in race. If conditions make an in-person event impossible, The Maximum Physical Therapy Pelham City Center 5k will become a virtual event with shirts, medals, and awards still included. If this change is necessary, details will be provided to each participant. Registrations for the race will automatically be transferred to the virtual event. ACT I V E ADU LTS ( 55+) COVID-19 PROTOCOL Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the Governor’s Safer At Home order, program modifications to class size and participant to instructor ratios are in place. In addition, all program participants are encouraged to wear face coverings and practice social distancing during their participation. As we move through the various phases outlined by the Governor, we will continue to evaluate programming to determine necessary modifications and/or additions to allow us to provide recreational and entertainment options with an emphasis on community health and safety, so please expect updates as we go. Due to COVID 19, all classes and programs will require pre-registration. You will need to pre-register for each class/program. Space will be limited. Registration begins the Monday of the week prior to the class date and will remain open until class is full. (Example: Class is on Wednesday, October 14- registration will open Monday, October 5 for this class.
