Died Young Stayed Pretty es el primer largometraje en retratar el renacimiento del movimiento underground de los pósters de rock independiente norteamericano, impulsado por el lanzamiento de Gigposters.com (un sorprendente sitio web dedicado a este increíble arte del “hazlo tú mismo”). Retomando desde donde había llegado el punk, DYSP revela una nueva raza contracultural: artistas que se proponen destruir el mainstream a través de sus diseños controvertidos e intensamente viscerales. Yaghoobian viaja por Estados Unidos y Canadá para compartir la visión de algunos de los gigantes de esta subcultura moderna, que han creado pósters para bandas como Arcade Fire, Radiohead, Sonic Youth, Soundgarden, y sigue la lista. This documentary focuses on an assortment of independent, renegade graphic artists who raid American pop culture for their attention-getting designs that range from vulgar to visceral. Died Young Stayed Pretty is the first feature film to take a candid look at the renaissance of North America’s underground indie-rock poster movement spurred on by the launch of Gigposters.com (an amazing website dedicated to this incredible do-it-yourself art). Picking up where punk left off, DYSP reveals a new breed of counter-culturists; artists that set out to destroy the mainstream through their controversial & intensely visceral design work. Yaghoobian travels across US & Canada to offer a look into to the world of some of the giants of this modern subculture who have worked on posters for groups like Arcade Fire, Radiohead, Sonic Youth, Soundgarden and the list goes on. Under the guise of advertising for rocks shows, these unheralded masters of the silkscreen carry on public discourses that range from hot button political issues to lewd inside jokes. Yaghoobian shows these artists for what they are: the vivisectionists of America’s morbidly obese consumer culture.

Eileen Yaghoobian
Es canadiense pero nació en Irán. Su formación en cine, animación en 3D, teatro y fotografía sentó las bases de su carrera como directora, diseñadora de producción y escenógrafa. Sus cortos y videos fueron exhibidos tanto en festivales internacionales como en exhibiciones de arte. Actualmente desarrolla su próximo largometraje. Iranian-born Canadian filmmaker, her formal training in filmmaking, 3D animation, theatre, and photography provided a foundation for her diverse career as a director, production designer, and set decorator for numerous independent productions. Her short films and videos have screened at international festivals as well as art exhibitions. She is in the midst of developing a feature narrative for her next feature film.
