L’Enfer d’Henri-Georges Clouzot Henri-Georges Clouzot’s Inferno / El infierno de Henri-Georges Clouzot En 1964, Henri-Georges Clouzot –le mystére Clouzot– comenzó a filmar uno de sus proyectos más ambiciosos. La película en cuestión iba a llamarse L’Enfer. Y sólo “iba a”, porque la deserción de su protagonista masculino y las dudas (además de un ataque al corazón) de Clouzot, entre otros motivos, hicieron que nunca se terminase. Exactamente 40 años después, la viuda del director facilitó las 185 latas de película sobrevivientes del proyecto a Bromberg y Medrea, quienes se encargaron de seleccionar imágenes del film, pruebas de cámara incluidas, y de sumar recreaciones de escenas del guión original nunca rodadas (representadas por Bérénice Bejo y Jacques Gamblin) y entrevistas al equipo de la película: Costa-Gavras, William Lubtchansky, entre otros. Y, sobre todo, de rescatar una serie de experimentos y ensayos visuales realizados por Clouzot en los que todo parecía estar permitido y todo era llevado al límite: el uso del color, las luces y las sombras, las lentes, el maquillaje, los decorados; todo para dar una imagen del mundo visto a través de la paranoia celosa del personaje de Serge Reggiani, interpretando al marido de una bellísima y joven Romy Schneider.
In 1964, Henri-Georges Clouzot –le mystére Clouzot– started filming one of his most ambitious projects. The film in question was going to be called L’Enfer. “Was going to be”, but the movie was never finished due to the desertion of the male main character and Clouzot´s doubts (and his heart attack), among other reasons. Exactly 40 years later, the director’s widow passed on the 185 surviving cans of film to Bromberg and Medrea, who selected images and camera tests from the movie and added recreations of scenes from the original script that were never filmed (represented by Bérénice Bejo and Jacques Gamblin) and interviews with the movie’s team: Costa-Gavras, William Lubtchansky, and others. And above all, rescued a series of experiments and visual tests carried out by Clouzot in which everything is allowed and pushed to its limits: the use of color, lights and shadows, lenses, the makeup, the set; everything creates an image of the world as seen though the jealous paranoia of Serge Reggiani, who plays the husband of a beautiful and young Romy Schneider.

Serge Bromberg & Ruxandra Medréa
Nacido en Francia en 1961, Bromberg egresó de la Escuela Superior de Comercio de París. Fue miembro del consejo de la Cinémathèque Française de 1999 a 2007, director artístico del Festival Internacional de Animación de Annecy desde 1999 y director de la productora Steamboat Films desde 2006. Nacida en Rumania en 1977, Medréa trabaja como colaboradora de Bromberg en la conservación y restauración de películas. En 2006 dirigió su primer documental, Génération précaire, acerca de la fragilidad económica y social de los jóvenes egresados universitarios. Born in France in 1961, Bromberg is a graduate of the ISC (Paris School of Management). He’s been a board member of the Cinémathèque Française from 1999 to 2007, Artistic Director of the Annecy International Animated Film Festival since 1999, and manager of the production company Steamboat Films since 2006. Born in Rumania in 1977, Medréa collaborates with Bromberg on the restoration and preservation of films. In 2006, she directed her first documentary, Génération précaire, about the young university graduates’ economic and social fragility.
