Ivy vuelve por unos días a la casa de su madre en Brooklyn durante sus vacaciones universitarias con el objetivo de desconectarse y pasar tiempo con su mejor amigo Al, también de vacaciones y alojado por Ivy luego de descubrir que sus padres alquilaron su antigua habitación. No hace falta ser muy suspicaz para darse cuenta de que Al quiere ser algo más que amigo de Ivy. Pero ella tiene novio, aunque la mitad de las veces que lo llama éste no la atiende y la otra mitad le dice poco y nada. A partir de esa situación explorada hasta el hartazgo por el cine en toda su historia, Bradley Rust Gray construye un relato actual y convincente sobre esos primeros años de la vida adulta que no son otra cosa que los últimos años de la adolescencia. Con una calculadamente simple puesta en escena, apoyada en las interpretaciones de Zoe Kazan (nieta de Elia Kazan) y Mark Rendall, The Exploding Girl señala un nuevo camino posible para esa tradición inestable que es el cine indie norteamericano.
During her college vacations, Ivy returns to her mother’s house in Brooklyn in order to rest and spend time with her best friend Al, also on vacation and Amy’s guest after discovering his parents have rented his old room. You don’t´ have to be a genius to figure out Al wants to be something more than Ivy’s friend. But she has a boyfriend, even though half the times she calls him he doesn’t´ pick up the phone and the other half he hardly speaks. This situation, which has been explored countless times by cinema since its beginnings, is the starting point of Bradley Rust Gray’s modern and convincing tale about the first years of grown up life, which are really the last years of adolescence. With a calculatedly simple mise-en-scène, backed by the performances of Zoe Kazan (Elia Kazan’s granddaughter) and Mark Rendall, The Exploding Girl marks a new path for this unstable tradition called American indie cinema.

Bradley Rust Gray
Nacido en 1971 en Ohio, Estados Unidos, estudió en el School of the Art Institute de Chicago y obtuvo una Maestría en USC y el British Film Institute. Trabaja en compañía con su esposa So Yong Kim, para quien produjo las películas In Between Days (2006) y Treeless Mountain (2008). En 2003, dirigió su primer largometraje, Salt. Born in 1971 in Ohio, USA, he studied at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and has a master’s degree from the USC and the British Film Institute. He works in partnership with his wife So Yong Kim. He produced her films In Between Days (2006) and Treeless Mountain (2008). In 2003, he directed his first feature film, Salt (2003).
