DEAR FRIENDS AND SUPPORTERS,

Dear friends and supporters, Every new year at Metropolitan Community College brings memorable moments, defining partnerships and new stories of student success and program development—achievements made possible through your dedication and partnership. As we reflect on our shared impact, it is evident that Together, We Make A Difference. A difference in student lives. This past year, the MCC Foundation was able to provide $790,686 in student scholarships and grants because of you. Your support makes educational goals financially possible. Randy Schmailzl

Take for example, MCC’s 2018 Distinguished “After obtaining my Alumnus, Hubert “Charles” Ahovissi. Born degree at MCC, I was in West Africa, Charles is a professional able to become an artist and dancer, who moved to Omaha American citizen.” after performing here with his dance troupe. In 2002, Charles began taking English as a – Charles Ahovissi Second Language classes, crediting MCC with helping him gain the skills necessary for citizenship testing. Building on his liberal arts knowledge, he founded African Culture Connection, an Omaha nonprofit dedicated to teaching and sharing African culture through traditional dancing and drumming. Charles has accumulated many accolades including the 2012 National Arts & Humanities Youth Program Award. This is just one example of how your support launches careers.

A difference in workforce preparation. Regardless of the career field, today’s high-tech workforce requires advanced skills beyond high school. Businesses need skilled workers and workers need the skills for workforce success. To bridge these needs, MCC relies on trusted business partners to tell us what “preparation” means for each industry—they review curriculum, offer internships, invest in scholarships and equipment, and ultimately, hire our graduates. This past year, for example, the MCC Center for Advanced and Emerging Technology partnered with EPI-USA to respond to greater Omaha’s burgeoning need for advanced data center training. Today, MCC’s data center program stands proudly as the EPI national training center for the United States, benefiting students and businesses in the fourcounty area and beyond. Your support helps us build a stronger workforce through education. A difference in our community. Each year students across all of our construction education programs work together to build a modular home. MCC completed its first such capstone house in 2018 and moved it in sections to a lot on north 30th Street, where it was assembled, finished and placed on the market. This was made possible through partnerships with the Bridge Foundation, BCDM Architects and the Omaha Land Bank. This home not only brightens a neighborhood, but it also shows students the importance of teamwork, decision-making and collective impact. Your support of our trades programs builds up the community. Thank you for joining with MCC to make a difference. The impact of our shared work will benefit our students and community for generations to come. Sincerely, Randy Schmailzl Stephen B.
