The Department strives to: Improve the quality of life through the provision of well-balanced, high-quality recreation programs for the residents of McAllen to enjoy during their leisure time. Facilitate wholesome and constructive programs with a measurable value to the community. Provide attractive and well-maintained major parks and recreation facilities in each sector of the city. These facilities should be within a reasonable distance of every surrounding neighborhood and offer safe opportunities for athletic competition, facility gatherings, and other passive and active recreation activities. Promote environmental conservation, eco and cultural tourism and socially oriented special events.

The City of McAllen Parks and Recreation welcomes the opportunity to accommodate our patrons with special needs so that full participation in leisure and recreation programs may be enjoyed by all. Reasonable modifications will be assessed on a caseby-case basis taking the appropriate steps to ensuring a safe and enjoyable leisure experience. Patrons with special needs are encouraged to bring a companion with them for assistance at no extra charge in lieu of an additional staff member. The initial request for accommodation should be made on the program registration form.

REFUNDS & TRANSFERS

We constantly strive to provide you with the highest quality recreation programs. If, for any reason, you are not completely satisfied with a class or activity, please tell us so we can respond to your concerns. In addition to using your feedback to help us improve our programs, we will arrange one of the following. TRANSFERS between classes will be allowed only prior to the second class meeting, at no charge. After the second class meeting, transfers may be made, pending space availability, with a charge of $5 per class. REFUNDS for classes will be allowed only prior to the second class meeting and will carry a $10 fee per class. Refunds will take 30 to 60 days to process. Requests for transfers and refunds must be in writing. Some of our programs, such as adult leagues, contract programs and facility rentals, have different, specific policies which apply. The McAllen Parks and Recreation Department retains the privilege of canceling any scheduled activity that fails to generate minimum interest.

MEDICAL POLICY

The City of McAllen Parks and Recreation Department will not prohibit any person from participating in an activity due to a medical condition or handicap, unless such condition is likely to cause injury to that individual or other participants in the activity. A participant who has been notified by a qualified medical professional that he/she has a medical condition that is likely to cause injury to themselves or other participants, is obligated to inform the Parks and Recreation Department, at the time of registration, of the condition and willingly withdraw from the program or activity if requested by the Department. It is recommended that all participants receive medical authorization before participating in these programs.

PAVILION, POOL & COMMUNITY CENTER RENTALS

Reserve a park pavilion, pool or community center for your next special event! Perfect for birthday parties, family reunions, weddings, anniversaries and baby showers. Reservations are accepted in person during regular business hours at the following locations: - Lark Community Center (956) 681-3340 - Las Palmas Community Center (956) 681-3350 - Palm View Community Center (956) 681-3360 Utility bill is required to show proof of McAllen residency. FISHING Winter/Spring Hours & Programs

FISHING AT TOWN LAKE

H20 Hut Hours: Nov. - March: Saturday - Sunday, Noon to Sunsest April - Oct.: Friday - Sunday, 4 p.m. - Sunset Offering boat & fishing pole rentals, tackle, bait and refreshments for sale. In the event of steady rain, programs will be cancelled and the H20 Hut will be closed.

BOATING PEDAL BOAT, KAYAK, and STAND UP PADDLEBOARD RENTALS Bring the family and enjoy 30 minutes on the lake in a boat of your choice. Rental fee includes a life jacket which is mandatory to be worn around the chest. November – March Dates: Saturdays and Sundays Time: Noon to 6:00 p.m. Rental Fees (30 minutes): 4-seater Pedal Boat - $20; 2-seater Pedal Boat - $10; Double Kayak - $15, Single Kayak - $10, Stand Up Paddleboard* - $10 *Ages 10+ only on the Stand Up Paddleboards (300 lb limit) and Single Kayaks (200 lb limit) Ages 10 - 17 with parental supervision only. **Frequent boater punch cards may be purchased in the H20 Hut – $100 value for $80.

STAND UP PADDLEBOARD WORKOUT Join a Town Lake staff member for a 30 minute workout on a paddleboard. No experience is necessary. November - March Saturdays, 5:00 pm – 5:30 pm Ages: 14+ Only Fee: $10 (board rental, paddle and lifejacket included) CUSTOM GROUP BOAT RENTALS Arrangements can be made for groups who want to rent our boats. Fish include bass, catfish, bluegill and tilapia. CATCH AND RELEASE ONLY. CAST NETS ARE NOT PERMITTED. Ages 16 and under can fish without a license. Ages 17 and up require a valid state fishing license as per Texas Parks & Wildlife regulations. For Texas residents, this fee is currently $30 for the year or $11 for the day.
