I saved $2,434.00 with NYSUT Member Benefits... I challenge you to find out how much you could save! Dear NYSUT Member: My name is Martin Messner. I am a teacher and NYSUT member who was elected as NYSUT’s Secretary-Treasurer this past spring. As the newly appointed Chairperson of the NYSUT Member Benefits Trust, I wanted to find out exactly what the benefits of participating in Member Benefits-endorsed programs & services are. I already knew that Member Benefits researches these programs for me, ensures that I’m dealing with reputable program providers and acts as my advocate if I ever have an issue with a particular program. What I was really curious about, though, is how much money I could save by participating in these endorsed programs & services. In order to test the system and have a first-hand experience, I called NYSUT Member Benefits anonymously to inquire about switching my auto & homeowners insurance carrier to our endorsed MetLife Auto & Home program. I was quickly transferred to a MetLife representative; after answering a few simple questions, I learned that I could save $375 by switching my homeowners insurance policy and another $190 by switching my auto insurance. I decided to switch carriers on the spot, and MetLife took care of contacting my previous insurance carriers to take care of the process. I saved $565 right there... it was that easy. But I wasn’t done yet. NYSUT Member Benefits endorses approximately 50 programs & services in a variety of categories. So I started to explore some of the other endorsed offerings. I found that I could save approximately $296 on level term life insurance; $81 on movie tickets; $239 on a planned family vacation; $144 on my home heating fuel and furnace service; and $3,221 off MSRP on a new vehicle. I even learned that the Member Benefitsendorsed Legal Service Plan provides a free Legal Security Package (which includes a Simple Will, Health Care Proxy, Living Will & Power of Attorney) for just $85 per year for in-service members and $55 per year for retirees.
