Providing support for healthier relationships.

The Healthy Relationships Program was developed this year by the Mates4Mates clinical team to help veterans and family members better understand the difference between healthy and unhealthy interpersonal relationships.

Domestic and Family Violence Prevention Month is marked each year throughout May to raise community awareness. While the topic of domestic abuse can be disturbing and confronting, it’s important to discuss it to help break down misconceptions.

The Healthy Relationships Program, which ran over four weeks in May, provided veterans and family members who participated the opportunity to gain a greater understanding of relationship styles as well as learn tips and strategies to assist in developing healthy interpersonal relationships.

Mates4Mates Clinical Program Manager, Clare Mitchell believes it’s important for everyone to understand the nature of healthy and unhealthy relationships and how they function, including understanding issues in our own relationships or others that we care about or work with.

“In addition, discussing this difficult topic can raise awareness, reduce shame and increase the likelihood of people seeking support and assistance if they become aware that they are in a domestically violent relationship.” mates 4 matesshop org
