TINDERSTICKS, INTIMIDAD TOTAL TINDERSTICKS, TOTAL INTIMACY
La banda de Nottingham liderada por Stuart A. Staples comenzó su andadura en 1991 pero no sacaron su primer álbum “Tindersticks I” hasta 1993 cuando el grunge estaba en lo más alto en cuanto a música independiente. Pero no se amilanaron ante las tendencias dominantes y eligieron un rumbo distinto, aquel que les emparejaba con grandes mitos como Serge Gainsbourg, Lee Hazlewood y Scott Walter. Más de uno ha llegado a estos tres genios a través de sus influencias en los discos de Tindersticks. Sus arreglos plenos de orquestaciones y la voz de barítono de su cantante nos recordaron que otra música era posible y poco a poco, medios y público se hicieron eco de dicha tendencia. En aquellos tiempos internet era casi una quimera y para conseguir sus discos había que 08
pedirlos por correo. Cuando publicaron “Tindersticks II” en 1995 emprendí con mis amigos en septiembre la odisea de coger el tren desde A Coruña hasta BCN para verlos en el BAM en un concierto gratuito celebrado en la Plaça del Rei. La paliza del viaje mereció tanto la pena que volvería a hacerlo ahora aunque no tenga esa energía adolescente que te hace inmune al cansancio. Desde aquellos tiempos hasta ahora han seguido publicando álbumes en estudio y en directo, colaboraciones y bandas sonoras de películas. El grupo ha evolucionado su sonido acercándose al soul pero sin dejar completamente de lado su pop de cámara, llantos y violines que les hizo grandes. Hubo amagos de ruptura en 2005 cuando su líder emprendió la carrera en solitario pero siguieron publicando álbumes.
Por cierto, espectacular su trabajo en “White Material”, reciente película de Claire Denis, donde su música encaja a la perfección con la vida que lleva una mujer blanca y francesa en plena guerra civil en una antigua colonia de África. La colaboración Claire Denis-Tindersticks sigue por buen camino. Ahora, en febrero, para demostrar que siguen muy vivos tendrán un nuevo disco en la calle titulado "The Something Rain". Será su noveno álbum de estudio y para escucharlo tendrás que acudir al Teatro Lara de Madrid los días 21 y 22 de marzo. Se alcanzó tan rápido el sold-out de la primera fecha que decidieron hacer una segunda. No sería extraño que vuelvan a colgar el cartel de “no hay billetes”.

The band from Nottingham led by Stuart A. Staples began in 1991 but did not release their first album "Tindersticks I" until 1993 when grunge was at the top in terms of independent music. But they continued undeterred in front of the dominant trends and chose a different path, one that matched them with great legends like Serge Gainsbourg, Lee Hazlewood and Scott Walker. Many people have come to these three geniuses through their influence in the Tindersticks. His arrangements, full of orchestrations and the baritone singer reminded us that other music was possible and, little by little, public and media echoed this trend. At that time internet was almost a dream and in order to get their records you had to ordered them by mail. When they brought out "Tindersticks II" in 1995 I undertook with my friends, in September, the odyssey of taking the train from A Coruña to BCN to see them in the BAM, in a free concert held in the Plaça del Rei. It was worth the beating of the trip so I will do it again now even without that teenager energy that makes you immune to fatigue.
From that time until now they have continued publishing live and studio albums, collaborations and film soundtracks. The group has evolved its sound going closer to the soul but without completely ignoring its chamber pop side, tears and violins that made them great. There were threats of breaking-off in 2005 when their leader undertook the solo career, but they are still publishing albums. By the way, they made a spectacular work in "White Material", recent film by Claire Denis, where their music fits perfectly with the life led by a white and French woman in a civil war in a former African colony. The collaboration Claire Denis – Tindersticks is on the right track. Now, in February, in order to demonstrate that they are still alive, they will release a new album entitled "The Something Rain". It will be their ninth studio album and if you want to listen to it, you will have to go to the Lara Theater in Madrid on 21 and 22 March. The sold –out for the first date was so quickly that they decided to do a second. A second sold – out would not be strange.

TRES CUERPOS EN UNO THREE BODIES IN ONE
— The New Raemon, Francisco Nixon y Ricardo Vicente.
Ramón Rodríguez (Madison, Madée, The New Raemon), Fran Fernández (Australian Blonde, La Costa Brava y Francisco Nixon) y Richi Vicente (Pulmón, Tachenko y Francisco Nixon) se han unido en un trío puntual y fulgurante llamado The New Raemon, Francisco Nixon y Ricardo Vicente con el que han publicado el álbum “El problema de los tres cuerpos”. Estos tres pesos pesados del panorama indie patrio se juntaron por admiración mutua de sus últimos trabajos, se invitaron a telonearse en varios conciertos y unos cuantos cientos de mails después ya estaban grabando juntos. La libertad de creación y elección individual de los temas fue respetada y el consenso se impuso a la hora de hacerse los coros e utilizar a la misma banda para grabar. Llevar el proyecto adelante no
fue fácil ni rápido. No son precisamente adolescentes cuyo único propósito sea tener una banda de rock, aquella época quedó atrás. Las responsabilidades familiares y laborales les impiden dejar sus ciudades para embarcarse en una nueva vida para poder ensayar juntos. También existen contratos discográficos individuales en vigor que les pueden crear problemas legales. Todos esos impedimentos serán superados por las ganas de pasárselo bien, la tecnología que permite reducir las distancias a un mero intercambio de correos electrónicos y a la existencia de sus propios sellos discográficos. El único impedimento que restaba es el tiempo y ellos no tenían prisa, también estaban con sus proyectos paralelos. Finalmente consiguieron editar ellos mismos un álbum en el que se

reparten justamente las nueve canciones, tres por barba (nunca mejor dicho), dejándose una de cada uno para un single que estará disponible en los conciertos de la gira. Sus otros proyectos han limitado en exceso las posibilidades de verlos en directo. Entre febrero y marzo sólo pueden hacer una especie de minigira de fin de semana, por tanto no podemos desperdiciar esas oportunidades. Ya tocaron en Murcia, Valencia y Zaragoza. Les esperan a primeros de marzo en Oviedo y Valladolid. Después tocarán de la mano de SON Estrella Galicia el 15 de marzo en el teatro Lara de Madrid, el 16 en el Café Pop Torgal de Ourense y el 17 en Le Club de A Coruña. Por último estarán en Barcelona (tres fechas), Castellón y Sevilla.

These three indie national heavyweights joined for mutual admiration of his latest works, were invited as supporting artist in several concerts and a few hundred emails later they were recording together. The creative freedom and individual choice of the subjects were respected and the consensus was imposed for the chorus and the use of the same band for recording. The development was not easy neither quick. They are not just teenagers whose sole purpose is to have a rock band, that days are over. Work and family responsibilities prevent them from leaving their cities to embark on a new life in order to be able to rehearse together. There are also individual record contracts that are in force and that can create legal problems. All these
impediments will be overcome by the desire to have fun, the technology that makes it possible to reduce the distances to a mere exchange of emails and the existence of their own labels. The only remaining impediment was the time and they were in no hurry, they were preparing their side projects. Finally they managed to edit themselves an album where they fairly share out the nine songs, three apiece (never better said), leaving one of each for a single that will be available at the concerts of the tour. Their other projects have greatly limited their live concerts. Between February and March they can only do a mini-tour on weekends, therefore we can not waste these opportunities. They have already played in Murcia, Valencia and Zaragoza. They´ll be at the beginning of March in Oviedo and Valladolid. Later they will play, with Son Estrella Galicia, on March 15th in Lara Theatre in Madrid, the 16th at Cafe Pop Torgal in Ourense and 17th at Le Club in A Coruna. Finally they will be in Barcelona (three dates), Castellon and Seville.

JOHN CALE, MÁS ALLÁ DE LA VELVET JOHN CALE, BEYOND VELVET
John Davies Cale nació en 1942 en Garnant (Gales). Demostró pronto su talento convirtiéndose en un niño prodigio que, con apenas ocho años, tocaba la viola, el piano y componía. Se graduó en música clásica en Londres y consiguió una beca para continuar sus estudios en Estados Unidos donde comenzó a relacionarse con el movimiento de avant-garde y artistas como Iannis Xenakis, John Cage y La Monte Young (con quien trabajaría en The Dream Syndicate). Pero de algo había que comer y consiguió trabajo como instrumentista en New York en Pickwick Records. Allí también trabajaba como compositor Lou Reed. Estaba claro que con dos genios en tan reducido espacio algo muy grande tendría que ocurrir. Se van a vivir juntos, reclutan a un par de conocidos y forman un grupo, que después de varios nombres fallidos, pasaría a la historia como The Velvet Underground. Una muestra del talento conjunto se aprecia en “Venus in Furs” del primer álbum donde la dolorosa viola que acaricia John Cale se funde a la perfección con la voz y las letras de Lou Reed. Pero
John Davies Cale was born in 1942 in Garnant (Wales). He was an early talent and soon became a child prodigy who, with just eight years, played the viola, piano and composed. He graduated in classical music in London and won a scholarship to continue his studies in the United States where he began to be related to the avantgarde movement and artists such as Iannis Xenakis, John Cage and La Monte Young (who he worked with in The Dream Syndicate). But he needed money, so he got a job as a musician in New York in Pickwick Records. Lou Reed worked there as a songwriter. It was clear that with two geniuses in that tiny space something big would happen. They lived together, recruited a couple of acquaintances and formed a group that, after several attempted names, would go down in history as The Velvet Underground. A sample of their joint talent can be seen in "Venus in Furs" in the first album where the painful viola that John Cale caresses blends perfectly with the voice and the lyrics of Lou Reed. But that magic was somewhat ephemeral. The vanguard of the Welsh in the next album, choosing the more tortuous path to success, was enough to be "expelled" from the quartet. He began his solo career as an instrumentalist, songwriter and producer that lasts more than 40 years. To summarize in a few lines this period would be complicated and an audacious.

Tracemos unas cuantas pinceladas de su trayectoria que dejen constancia de lo que ha sido John Cale para la historia de la música. Como productor ha sido el artífice de álbumes tan importantes e imprescindibles como “The Stooges” (1969), el

Let´s draw a few brushstrokes of his career that explain what was John Cale for the history of music. As a producer, he was the creator of important and essential albums like "The Stooges" (1969), the "Horses" (1975) by Patti Smith, "The Modern Lovers" (1976), much of the discography of Nico or the more recent "The Rapture" (1995), the Siouxsie and the Banshees, among others. In his solo career I would highlight two very different jewels: "Paris 1919" (1973) that he recently played live and full, and "Helen of Troy" (1975). Among his collaborations I choose Nick Drake, Brian Eno and many movie soundtracks. We cannot forget his performances, and here I must confess a weakness, he has possibly been the best with the "Hallelujah" by Leonard Cohen. The Welsh musician published in September "Extra Payful", an EP with five songs, prelude to the new album which will be published in 2012. He has recently published a compilation whose title says everything "Conflict & Catalysis: Productions & Arrangements 1966-2006". Not bad for a simple ex-member of the Velvet Underground awarded the Order of the British Empire. John Cale will begin his European tour and will visit our country with an essential event, on March 24 in the Palexco in La Coruna.

El galés publicó en septiembre “Extra Payful”, un EP con cinco canciones preludio del nuevo álbum que saldrá en 2012. Recientemente se ha publicado un recopilatorio cuyo título lo dice todo “Conflict & Catalysis: Productions & Arrangements 1966-2006”. No está mal para ser un simple ex-miembro de la Velvet Underground condecorado con la Orden del Imperio Británico. John Cale comenzará gira europea y visitará nuestro país con una cita imprescindible, el 24 de marzo en el Palexco de A Coruña.

El festival Optimus Primavera Sound, la extensión que el prestigioso evento barcelonés efectuará a partir de este año en Oporto, presentó a mediados de febrero una nueva tanda de confirmaciones a cada cual más jugosa. Entre los nombres que ya se conocían y los nuevos añadidos hay todo tipo de estrellas de la escena independiente mundial, algunas de larga trayectoria y otras de carrera más breve pero fulgurante. Todas ellas se congregarán en la principal ciudad del norte de Portugal, del jueves 7 al domingo 10 de junio. Björk fue una de las primeras figuras en apuntarse al Primavera portugués. La artista islandesa, siempre innovadora hasta límites inimaginables, presentará su reciente “Biophilia” ante un público ávido de asistir a uno de sus pocos conciertos en la península. Pero habrá que prestar atención a otros megaespectáculos, como el de los también veteranos Flaming Lips, que nunca dejan indiferente a nadie. O el del crooner más excesivo de nuestros tiempos, Rufus Wainwright. Hay más. Estarán Wilco, Death Cab For Cutie, The Walkmen, Saint Etienne, Yo la Tengo, Yann Tiersen The Rapture, Dirty Three, The Black Lips... Las reuniones de los Afghan Whigs y Codeine... Los conciertos de bandas que con unos pocos discos ya se han labrado un gran nombre, como The Drums, The XX, Beach House, Tennis, I Break Horses, Veronica Falls, Neon Indian, Washed Out... Vamos, que resulta difícil que algún melómano sea incapaz de encontrar varias decenas de artistas de su agrado. Imperdible.

LEONARD COHEN MITO, POETA, GALÁN LEONARD COHEN, MYTH, POET, HEARTTHROB
Leonard Cohen ya fue uno de los mejores escritores de canciones del siglo XX, pero se está esforzando en ser también importante en el XXI. Parece que sus recientes e inesperadas giras le han reconfortado en el aspecto creativo, por mucho que su nuevo disco se llame “Old Ideas” y no suponga una ruptura estilística respecto a los precedentes. Sin embargo, fácilmente es el mejor de sus últimos tres trabajos y le devuelve a la palestra que nunca debió dejar. El poeta canadiense, de 77 años, ha publicado su nuevo álbum sólo unos meses después de que Tom Waits hiciese lo propio. Por alguna
extraña razón, ambos creadores, con públicos relativamente similares y una posición igualmente privilegiada en el canon, jamás estuvieron tan cerca musicalmente. Si Waits entregaba con "Bad as Me" su disco más amable en años, Cohen ha demostrado que se puede cantar todavía más grave sin lastrar las composiciones. Lo hace con unas canciones en las que parece estar preparándose para dar el paso hacia la tumba. El álbum está plagado de imágenes crepusculares y es incluso más lento de lo que en el autor es habitual, pero eso no quiere decir que su tono sea lúgubre. De hecho, ni siquiera se hace

monótono, algo en lo que quizás si caían sus anteriores "Ten New Songs" (2001) y "Dear Heather (2004). Que uno o varios temas de "Old Ideas" puedan incluirse a partir de ahora en la larga lista de clásicos de Leonard Cohen es una buena noticia a estas alturas de la vida del canadiense. Ha salido de su semi-retiro para presentar "Amen", "Show Me The Place" y "Come Healing", canciones que retratan el momento vital de un mito, poeta y galán casi octogenario, pero siempre (o prácticamente siempre) brillante.

Leonard Cohen was one of the best songwriters of the twentieth century, but he is also striving to be important in the XXI as well. It seems that his recent and unexpected tours have cheered him on the creative side, even though his new album is called "Old Ideas" and does not represent a break of style with his previous albums. However, it is easily the best of his last three works and it put him back to the fore he should never have abandoned. The Canadian poet, 77, has released his new album only a few months after Tom Waits released his. For some strange reason, both artists, with relatively similar audiences and equally privileged positions in the canon, were never musically so close. With “Bad as Me�, Waits delivered his kindest album in years; Cohen has shown that you can sing even deeper without weighing down the compositions.
He does so with some songs that seem to be his preparation for the grave. The album is full of twilight images and it is even slower than is usual in the author, but that does not mean his tone is grim. In fact, it is not even monotonous, something that perhaps his previous albums "Ten New Songs" (2001) and "DearHeather (2004) were. One or more themes of "Old ideas" may be included from now on the long list of Leonard Cohen classics and that is good news at this point in the life of the Canadian. He left his semi-retirement to present "Amen," "Show Me The Place" and "Come Healing", songs that represent the life time of a myth, almost octogenarian poet and hearttrob, but always (or almost always) brilliant.

Me recuerdo con 15 años buscando en la tienda del barrio entre montones de ejemplares de este preciado formato y maravillándome con sus portadas, con los diseños que los artístas hacían para enmarcarlos en esas doce pulgadas de hermoso talento. Pero de repente llegó el futuro, el láser, el disco compacto y aquellos soportes se redujeron a un miserable cuadrado de ¿doce centímetros? ¡Vaya chasco! Al menos, dijeron, un CD duraba toda la vida y el LP se rayaba con mirarlo. Pues yo he perdido la cuenta de los CDs que se me han rayado, decenas. Y ¿cuántos vinilos? Ninguno. El vinilo se raya si lo tratas mal, el CD si lo tratas mucho. Y ¿qué decir del fenómeno de la piratería? Las nuevas tecnologías, al igual que la palabra, en buenas manos son estupendas pero, y me avergüenza decir ésto, estamos hechos para destruir y arruinar cosas y el láser, los ordenadores y las grabadoras han sido utilizados para que unos cuantos sinvergüenzas, muchos, se enriquezcan a base de copiar ilegalmente los trabajos alojados en ese soporte digital tan novedoso y moderno. Pues bien, ¿cual es la solución? El vinilo, aquel que no se piratea tan fácilmente. ¿Qué es muy grande y actualmente las casas son cada vez más pequeñas y el número de discos susceptibles de ser comprados muy alto? Pues en vez de la bicicleta estática pones una estantería con vinilos y sales a montar al campo. ¿Qué el vinilo no te lo puedes llevar en los cascos para ir al trabajo o la universidad? No pasa nada, las nuevas tecnologías también se pueden usar para hacer la vida más bonita así que, señoras discográficas, cuando publiquen un disco, háganlo en vinilo e incluyan en el mismo una dirección Web para

descargárselo en mp3. Seguirá habiendo indeseables que lo copien ilegalmente pero recuperarán algo que nunca, nunca debió olvidarse. Además ¿qué fue de capturar la magia del estudio? ¿De tener un buen equipo y dejar que lo que allí se fraguó penetre en tus venas a través de la aguja de tu estéreo? El formato digital no reproduce la onda original de sonido sino que la mide y la aproxima al valor más cercano que es capaz de representar. Una chapuza, vaya... Pero la cordura parece volver en sí y tras unos tristes años en la sombra el vinilo vuelve a hacerse notar llenando estanterías de tiendas de discos y convirtiéndose, además, en el rey de las ediciones deluxe. Así que hagamos caso a lo que Pearl Jam ya proclamaban en 1994 a voz en grito y Spin the black circle!

— Why vinyl records were replaced by CDs?
I remember myself, 15 years old, looking among piles of copies of this precious format at the neighborhood store and amazed by their covers, with the designs that the artists prepared to frame them in those twelve inches of beautiful talent. But suddenly the future arrived, the laser, the CD and those records were reduced to a miserable five-inch square? What a disappointment! At least, they said, a CD lasts a lifetime and you can scratch an LP only by looking at it. Well, I've lost count of the CDs that I have scratched, dozens. And how many vinyls? None. The vinyl is scratched if you treat him badly, the CD if you treat it a lot. And what about the phenomenon of piracy? New technologies, like the word, are great in good hands, and I am ashamed to say this, we are made to destroy and ruin things and lasers, computers and recorders have been used for a few scoundrels, many, to enriched themselves by illegally copying the works recorded in that digital format, so new and so modern. Well, what's the solution? The vinyl, which is not so easily pirated. It is very big and now houses are getting smaller and the number of disks that can be bought too high? So rather than
puting an exercise bike, put some shelves with vinyl records and go out and bike in the country. You can not take vinyl records with you and listen them with earphones when going to college or work? It's okay, new technologies can also be used to make life prettier so, please record companies, when bringing out a record, do it in vinyl and include in it a web site where we can download it in mp3. There will still be undesirable people who will copy it illegally, but they´ll recover something they should have never forgotten. Besides, what about capturing the magic of the studio? What about having a good sound system and letting that magic penetrate in your veins through the needle of your stereo sound system? The digital format does not reproduce the original sound wave but measure and approximate it to the nearest value that can represent. A fudge... But sanity seems to come back and after a few sad years in the dark vinyl is noticed again, filling shelves in record stores and becoming the king of the deluxe editions. So heed the advice given by Pearl Jam in 1994 when proclaimed loudly and Spin the black circle!

PINA BAUSCH — El cineasta Wim Wenders nunca ha escogido el camino fácil al reconocimiento.

Su filmografía está repleta de raras avis que si no fueran vistas dentro de su personal perspectiva serían consideradas experimentos sin sentido. Así que cuando en el 2008 decidió que su próximo proyecto sería en 3D sorprendió a propios y extraños. Pero nadie habría imaginado que su reto sería tratar de captar la magia y el instante que rodeaba el mundo creativo de su amiga la coreógrafa alemana Pina Bausch. Sin embargo, todo se complicó cuando tras dos años de preparativos un cáncer acababa con la vida de Pina, dejando huérfano el proyecto antes del inicio del rodaje. Fue entonces cuando sus bailarines decidieron continuar con el proyecto. Interiorizaron el método de Pina, y con sus respuestas bailadas, con sus coreografías, dieron forma a la película. Wenders rehuye los códigos del documental y elogia la figura de una mujer que reinventó los cánones de la danza clásica para mostrar la realidad y la capacidad del movimiento como transgresión. Recuperadora del movimiento libre, creadora de una relación dinámica con el espacio y exploradora de la autoexpresión mediante el cuerpo. La danza para Pina era una evocación, una solución de comunicación. La película no sigue una estructura lineal, y se sirve de los bailarines para construir un entramado de capítulos o composiciones que permiten avanzar en la experiencia. En lo que podría denominarse ‘entrevistas gestuales’, los bailarines que formaban su ballet inician sus intervenciones con una no-entrevista. Bailarín sobre fondo oscuro con el único acompañamiento de su propia voz en off y gestos que intentan transmitir lo que esa voz en off
indica. Al fin y al cabo, no se necesitan palabras. Como diría Pina, las palabras engañan pero el cuerpo dice la verdad. Y que mejor manera de contar la historia que haciendo lo que mejor saben hacer los bailarines: danzar. Las coreografías y la banda sonora son sublimes. Pero lo que atrapa, seas aficionado o no a la danza, es el detalle, su belleza, su sutileza. El movimiento, la profundidad, los gestos y las miradas. Son y serán elementos de los que bebe el cine. Y ahí, Wenders, consigue la comunión entre la danza moderna y la magia del cine. Cine en estado puro. Una experiencia onírica –pero con orden, no como el árbol de la vida- amplificada por un uso impecable del 3D. En palabras del propio Wenders -"Las tres dimensiones no son únicamente un nuevo modo de representar las cosas, sino una nueva forma de lenguaje, una especie de revolución que posibilita el nacimiento de una nueva forma de expresión", ese es el futuro del cine. Su amiga estaría orgullosa del resultado.

— The filmmaker Wim Wenders has never chosen the easy path to success.
His filmography is filled with rara avis that, if not seen within his personal perspective, would be considered meaningless experiments. So when in 2008 he decided that his next project would be a 3D film, he surprised everybody. But nobody would have imagined that his challenge would be to try to capture the magic and the moment surrounding the creative world of his friend the German choreographer Pina Bausch. Nevertheless, things got complicated when, after two years of preparation, cancer ended with Pina's life, leaving the project orphan before the filming began. At that moment, the dancers decided to continue the project. They internalized Pina´s method, and with their danced answers, with their choreography, shaped the film. Wenders avoids documentary codes and praised the figure of a woman who reinvented the canons of classical dance to show the reality and the ability of movement as transgression. Recoverer of free movement, creator of a dynamic relationship with space and explorer of self-expression through the body. For Pina, dance was an evocation, a solution of comunication. The film does not follow a linear structure, and uses the dancers to build a network of chapters or compositions that allows the audience to advance in experience. In what might be called 'gesture interviews', the
dancers who formed her ballet start their participation with a non-interview. Dancer on a dark background with the sole accompaniament of his own voice-over and gestures that attempt to transmit what the voiceover says. After all, words are no needed. As Pina would say, the words can cheat but the body tells the truth. And what a better way of telling the story than doing what dancers do: dancing. The choreographies and the soundtrack are sublime. But, even if you're a dance fan or not, you will be trapped by the the detail, its beauty, its subtlety. The movement, the depth, the gestures and the glances. They are and will be the elements from where the cinema drinks. And there, Wenders achieves the communion between modern dance and the magic of cinema. Cinema at its best. A dream experience, but with order, nor as the tree of life-, amplified by an impeccable use of 3D. In the words of Wenders - "The three dimensions are not only a new way of representing things, but a new form of language, a kind of revolution that enables the birth of a new form of expression", that is the future of cinema . His friend would be proud of the result.

El mejor cine coreano de los últimos años vive en las fronteras, en su capacidad para diluir estilos, influencias y tradiciones. Siempre con un tratamiento de los géneros que resulta más maduro y solvente que el made in Hollywood. Se habla a menudo de Tarantino como el heredero del cine de acción adulto de Sam Peckimpah, con sus historias de personajes complejos en situaciones adultas, pero quizás sea el cine asiático un mejor seguidor de esa corriente. El thriller hecho en Corea del Sur ha refrescado el panorama del cine en todos los sentidos con su acción muy pegada a la realidad social y con una violencia brutalmente descarnada, sin efectos ni adornos. Na Hong-Jin, es uno de sus exponentes, y confirma en su segundo trabajo las maneras que ya apuntaba en su debut con
la magistral “The Chaser” (Chugyeogja, 2008). El director se sumerge en The Yellow Sea (Hwanghae, 2010) en el infierno de las mafias transfronterizas. Una fusión de la acción más desquiciada con el thriller con denuncia social, contando con la potentísima presencia de los actores Ha Jung-woo y Kim Yunseok, protagonistas de su primer filme. La violencia que refleja siempre se encuentra muy cercana a la realidad. En ocasiones, salpica al espectador. La película está llena de ese ‘realismo violento’, es un retrato brutal y descarnado de una humanidad agresiva, casi caníbal, donde no parece quedar el más mínimo

resquicio para el amor, la ternura o la compasión. Un realismo seco, a veces mugriento, que potencia la crudeza y suciedad que lo rodea, dando una visión del ser humano esencialmente perverso, bajo el control de la lujuria, la ira y la avaricia. El film es un viaje al inframundo que sale en las noticias, lleno de bajos instintos que controlan las vidas de quienes lo habitan. Un anónimo don nadie se convierte al mismo tiempo en cabeza de turco y fugitivo, frente a un desfile interminable de mafiosos y camorristas de todo pelo, depredadores de carne humana que mastican personas como algo rutinario, ya sea en plato refinado como con las manos. Un
relato que a medida que avanza nos posiciona a favor y en contra de los personajes, nos hace entenderlos, sentir lástima por ellos y finalmente ver como el absurdo azar que rige la vida es más poderoso que sus circunstancias. Un film incómodo y real que nos trae una historia ficticia que podría estar sucediendo. Cine en estado puro.

The best Korean films of recent years live on the borders, in its capacity to dilute styles, influences and traditions. The treatment of genders is alwas more mature and solvent than of the cinema made in Hollywood. We often speak of Tarantino as the heir of Sam Peckinpah´s adult action films, with their plots of complex characters in adult situations, but perhaps the Asian cinema is a better follower of that trend. The thriller made in South Korea has cooled the film scene in every way with its action very attached to the social reality and severely barefaced violence, with no effects or adornments. Na Hong-Jin is one of its best representatives, and has confirmed in his second work what he had already shown in his masterful debut with The Chaser (Chugyeogja, 2008). In The yellow sea (Hwanghae, 2010) the director become absorbed by the hell of border gangs. A fusion of the most insane action in a the thriller with social criticism, and the potent presence of the actors Ha Jung-woo and Kim Yun-seok, the protagonists of his first film. The violence he reflects is always very close to reality. Sometimes, it even splash the audience. The film is full of that 'violent realism', is a brutal and barefaced
portrait of an aggressive humanity, almost cannibal, where there seems to be the a true absence of love, tenderness or compassion. A dry realism, sometimes filthy, which enhances the rawness and dirt around it, giving a view of the human being essentially evil, under the control of lust, anger and greed. The film is a journey into the underworld you can see in the news, full of base instincts that control the lives of those who inhabit it. An anonymous nobody at the same time becomes a scapegoat and fugitive, in front of an endless parade of different gangsters and troublemakers, human flesh predators that chew people like if it were routine, either in a refined dish or with their hands. A story that, as the film progresses, position us for and against the characters, makes us understand them, feel sorry for them and finally see how the absurd chance that governs life is more powerful than their circumstances. A real and uncomfortable film that brings a fictional story that might be happening. Cinema at its best.

— “Algo huele a podrido en Dinamarca”, decía Shakespeare en un conocido diálogo de Hamlet.
Un presagio de que las cosas iban mal y se pondrían peor… pues bien parafraseando al dramaturgo inglés, algo huele mal en España, lleva oliendo mucho tiempo y las consecuencias comienzan a ser graves para todos en general y para las Artes Escénicas, objeto de este artículo, en particular. Cómo puede ser posible que una Institución con mayúsculas, como es el Gran Teatro Liceo de Barcelona anuncie la suspensión de siete espectáculos que ya estaban programados, publicitados y con las entradas puestas a la venta y un cierre de dos meses porque simplemente no tiene dinero para afrontar los pagos. O cómo es posible que un teatro como el Lliure, con una programación más que estable, para mi una de las mejores del panorama español, con dos salas a su cargo anuncie
también que suspende tres obras, dejando un mes de Junio desierto, al igual que el mencionado Liceo o que el Festival Grec que ha anunciado que este año comenzará en el mes de Julio. Y si esto esta ocurriendo en Barcelona, la ciudad referente de las artes escénicas ¿qué no estará pasando en el resto de la geografía española? Teatros que se cierran, estrenos prácticamente inexistentes, mucha dificultad a la hora de conseguir financiación, o si se consigue todavía mayor dificultad para conseguir que se haga efectiva, publico en retroceso… ¿Qué esta ocurriendo con La Cultura? Pues que está en bancarro-

ta, como prácticamente todos los sectores de este país que dependen del dinero público o de mecenazgos. Decía Lluís Pasqual, actual director del Teatre Lliure en una entrevista para La Vanguardia, que “obviamente, si se pueden cerrar quirófanos, se pueden cerrar teatros no es un drama”. El drama es que se haya podido llegar a esta situación, cuando llevábamos ya mucho tiempo con este olor a podrido, avisándonos de lo que iba pasar y que no se haya conseguido otra solución que la de cerrar teatros, cancelar espectáculos y como no, la medida estrella: despedir a los trabajadores.

An ill omen that things were going badly and will go even worse ... so, paraphrasing the English playwright, something is rotten in Spain, it´s been rotten for a long time and consequences start to be serious for everyone in general and for the Scenic Arts, the subject of this article, in particular. How can it be possible for an institution with capital letters, such as the Gran Liceo Theater in Barcelona, that it announced the suspension of seven shows that were already scheduled, advertised and with the tickets on sale and closure of two months because they simply cannot afford payments. Or how can it be possible that a theater such as the Lliure, with a more than stable program, for me one of the best in the Spanish scene, in charge of two rooms, also announced the suspension of three plays, leaving the month of June deserted, as the aforementioned Liceo or that the Grec Festival announced that this year it will begin in July.
And if this is happening in Barcelona, the leading city regarding scenic arts, what is happening in the rest of the Spanish geography? Theaters are closing, premieres virtually nonexistent, great difficulty in getting financing, or if you get it, even greater difficulty in getting it done effectively, decreasing audiences ... What is happening with Culture? Well, it is gone bankrupt, as virtually have all sectors in this country that depend on public money or patronage. Lluís Pasqual, the current director of Theatre Lliure, said in an interview to La Vanguardia, "Obviously, if you can close operating rooms, theaters can also be closed and it is not a drama." The tragedy is that we have reached this situation, when we have spent a long time with this rotten smell, warning us of what would happen and that no other solution was obtained than the closing of theaters, canceling shows and of course, the favorite step: firing workers.

Pero en Galicia, además, podemos interpretar esta expresión como llegada al mismo tiempo que comienzo si la relacionamos en función de la región europea más importante de peregrinación, canalizada a través del Camino de Santiago. Y en este caso, la meta final de todo peregrino se ubica en la Catedral de Santiago de Compostela, templo de culto católico situado en la ciudad homónima donde, según la tradición, se hallan sepultados los restos mortales del Apóstol Santiago… A modo de experimento, resultaría muy interesante disponer de los medios técnicos adecuados (…) para poder analizar la cara de asombro y admiración de todos y cada uno de los viajeros, peregrinos o no, que asientan por primera vez sus pies sobre el trazado urbano de Santiago. Y más aún. Si dicho análisis pudiera llevarse a cabo desde los orígenes de la Catedral allá por al año 1100dC y desarrollarlo a lo largo de los siglos hasta nuestros días, comprobaríamos que los gestos de cada una de las generaciones que han pasado por allí serían muy similares entre sí, aunque la naturaleza de los mismos fuese diferente en función de la época del tiempo vivida. Y es que, en definitiva, Santiago de Compostela es una ciudad para sentirla. La Catedral y su inmediato entorno rodeado de plazas más o menos famosas -Obradoiro, Quintana, Platerías y la Azabachería-, el trazado de sus calles donde se levantan auténticas obras de arte de la arquitectura -como el Palacio de Rajoy (SXVIII), el Colegio de San Jerónimo (SXVI), el Palacio de Gelmírez (SXIXII), el Monasterio de San Martín Pinario (SXI) o la Casa de la Parra (SXVII) entre otros- y el zigzagueante casco antiguo originario de la época medieval que conserva el mismo trazado desde entonces, trasmiten sensaciones muy difíciles de expresar que sólo se pueden sentir a través de una vivencia personal. Así que, desde este Km 0.0, recomendamos a todo aquel que esté interesado en conocer esta legendaria ciudad a dar un tranquilo paseo por sus bulliciosas calles, perderse en el trazado urbano y descubrir los monumentos que aparecerán mágicamente ante sus ojos, sin olvidar el imprescindible acompañamiento del chubasquero porque Santiago de Compostela irradia más emociones cuando la fina lluvia cae sobre ella.

STUA ACHIEVES A DREAM
Tras casi treinta años de trabajo incansable, la empresa vasca de diseño de mobiliario ha conseguido un sueño. La Fundación Solomon R. Guggenheim y Stua han llegado a un acuerdo de colaboración a largo plazo, por lo que tendrán el privilegio de poder reunir los muebles creados a lo largo de las tres últimas décadas por Jesús Gasca y su equipo en un marco inigualable, el prestigioso museo neoyorquino, además de las oficinas de la Fundación. El museo Solomon R. Guggenheim del arquitecto norteamericano Frank Lloyd Wright, considerado como uno de los hitos más importantes de la arquitectura del siglo XX, es un edificio con personalidad propia y un marcado carácter al 42
que su creador dedicó catorce años, durante los que no faltó la polémica sobre su diseño. Ahora nadie lo pone en duda. Las piezas escogidas para el museo son también unos clásicos de la empresa, como son: la silla Gas (la reina del catálogo de Stua) que se situará en el sector principal del museo, y el taburete Onda y la silla Globus, que encajan a la perfección en la rotonda que rodea el edificio por sus formas redondeadas. La pequeña empresa casi familiar, fundada por Jesús Gasca, posee un carácter fuertemente afianzado en los principios y características de los clásicos del diseño moderno: el de la simplicidad y la intemporalidad. Cuentan en su haber con numerosos
premios a sus diseños: Selección Delta Adi-Fad 2001, a la silla Gas, Good Design al taburete Onda; pero quizá, el más importante sea el Premio Nacional de Diseño en el 2008, ya que se refiere a toda una trayectoria de trabajo, tesón y buen hacer.

After nearly thirty years of tireless work, the Basque company of design furniture has achieved a dream. The Foundation Solomon R. Guggenheim and Stua have reached a collaboration agreement in the long term, so they will have the privilege of gathering the furniture created over the last three decades by Jesus Gasca and his team in a unique setting, the prestigious museum in New York, in addition to the offices of the Foundation. The Museum Solomon R. Guggenheim, by the American architect Frank Lloyd Wright, considered one of the most important landmarks of twentieth century architecture, is a building with its own personality and a strong character to whom its creator dedicated fourteen years, with controversy on the design during them. Nowadays, no one questions it.
The pieces chosen for the museum are some classics of the company, including: the Gas chair (the queen in the Stua catalogue) wich will be located in the main part of the museum, and the stool Onda and the chair Globus, which fit to perfection in the roundabout that surrounds the building because of their rounded shapes. The small company, almost family business, founded by Jesus Gasca, has a character strongly entrenched in the principles and characteristics of classic modern design, simplicity and timelessness. Their designs have been frequently awarded: Selection AdiFad Delta 2001 to the Gas chair, Good Design to the Onda stool, but perhaps the most important is the National Design Award in 2008, because it refers to an entire working career, with determination and good work.

Organizada por el Museo ThyssenBornemisza y la Fundación Caja Madrid, Chagall es la primera gran retrospectiva dedicada al artista de origen bielorruso en España. Más de 150 obras procedentes de colecciones e instituciones públicas y privadas de todo el mundo, reunidas en ambas sedes hasta el 20 de Mayo, para repasar cronológicamente la trayectoria de uno de los artistas más destacados del siglo XX. Chagall desarrolló un estilo pictórico expresivo y colorista, muy vinculado a sus experiencias vitales y a las tradiciones religiosas y populares de la comunidad judía rusa. En él combinó ciertos elementos de la vanguardia cubista, del fauvismo y del orfismo de Robert Delaunay para crear un estilo personal, difícil de clasificar, pero siempre reconocible. Con una producción rica y abundante, Chagall fue un maestro del color. Sus azules, verdes, rojos o amarillos dan vida a los personajes de su particular universo: un violinista, una pareja de
enamorados, un saltimbanqui, un paisaje y toda una amplia gama de animales fantásticos. Por ello, es considerado como uno de los precursores del surrealismo. Las salas del Thyssen exponen trabajos de sus primeros años y de su periodo en París, la capital de la vanguardia en ese momento; también se recoge su experiencia en la Rusia revolucionaria hasta llegar al exilio forzado en Estados Unidos en 1941. En la Fundación Caja Madrid la atención se centra en el período americano y en su evolución artística posterior; se insiste en los asuntos bíblicos que preocupaban al artista y en su relación con los poetas contemporáneos, además de presentar distintas obras de escultura, cerámica y relieves. Una buena oportunidad para acercarse a la capital y disfrutar de una de las muestras más importantes del año.

Organized by Museo Thyssen-Bornemisza and Fundaci贸n Caja Madrid, Chagall is the first major retrospective of the artist from Belarus in Spain. More than 150 works from collections and public and private institutions around the world gathered at both locations until May 20, in order to chronologically review the career of one of the leading artists of the twentieth century. Chagall developed an expressive and colorful style of painting, closely linked to his life experiences and to the religious and popular traditions of the Russian Jewish community. He combined elements from cubist art, from Fauvism and from the Orphism of Robert Delaunay to create a personal style, difficult to classify, but always recognizable. With a rich and abundant production, Chagall was a master of color. His blue, green, red or yellow give life to the characters of his particular universe:
a violinist, a pair of lovers, a tumbler, a landscape and a wide range of fantastic animals. He is therefore considered as a precursor of surrealism. The rooms of the Thyssen Museum show works of his early years and his time in Paris, the capital of the art at that time; it also reflects his experience in the revolutionary Russia until his forced exile in the U.S. in 1941. In Caja Madrid Foundation, the attention focuses on the American period and in his later artistic evolution; it insists on biblical issues which worried the artist and on his relationship with contemporary poets as well as presenting various works of sculpture, ceramics and reliefs. A good opportunity to go the capital and enjoy one of the most important exhibitions of the year.

Ourense Javier Requejo has created a type of sculpture that is different from the concept art we are used to. He seeks to give a clear, direct and spontaneous look. A recreation of an elephant, designed with polypropylene thread attached to a skeleton of metal mesh with 150,000 handmade knots. He also decontextualized it, putting it away from its original habitat and giving the whole work a touch of humour.

EL CALLEJÓN DE LAS ALMAS PERDIDAS NIGHTMARE ALLEY
Desde los tiempos de Virgilio han existido escritores a los que la musa de la inspiración ha parecido tocarles una única vez: son esos escritores a los que se suele recordar por una sola novela. Ahí están Salinger ("El guardián en el centeno"), Capote ("A Sangre fría"), Kennedy O’toole ("La conjura de los necios"), o Juan Rulfo ("Pedro Páramo")... Igualmente, si bien mucho menos conocido que los anteriores, William Lindsay Gresham es autor de una obra underground inédita hasta ahora en español que es "El callejón de las almas perdidas", por la que -a su modo- ha dejado huella en el cenáculo de las Letras. La novela de Gresham nos sitúa en el mundo del freakshow itinerante a lo P. T. Barnum. Un microcosmos con sus propios códigos grupales que hace a uno pensar en el clan circense de la aclamada serie Carnivale, aunque, si cabe, refleja más la alienante sordidez de "La parada de los monstruos". Precisamente, al igual que el film de Tod Browning, el libro de Gresham fue prohibido y/o censurado, lo que no fue óbice para que se convirtiera en una obra aplaudida. Cada uno de los 22 capítulos comienza de manera simbólica con cada uno de los arcanos mayores del Tarot. A su original estructura hay que añadir lo insólito de su temática enriquecida de rico argot. Melodrama shakespeareiano de auge y caída ("Macbeth", "Otelo", "Ricardo III") con tintes de terror psicológico y novela negra que gira alrededor de un codicioso trabajador de la feria ambulante. Gresham teje una trama de arribismo y expiación en la que el psicoanálisis se

funde con lo monstruoso y paranormal. El monstruo, el geek (término que nació para designar a un ser humano degradado a actuar de abyecto monstruo en los primeros freakshows) sobrevuela el circular relato como efigie de aciaga providencia; el Monstruo como un protagonista omnipresente donde el Miedo es motor del mundo, y por tanto, su posible instrumento de control social.

From the time of Virgil, there have been writers who were touched by the muse of inspiration only once: they are those writers who are often remembered for a single novel. Those are Salinger ("Catcher in the Rye"), Capote ("In Cold Blood"), Kennedy O'Toole ("A Confederacy of Dunces"), and Juan Rulfo ("Pedro Paramo") ... Like these writers, although much less known than the others, William Lindsay Gresham is the author of an underground work, unpublished until now in Spanish, "Nightmare alley", that, in its own way, has left its mark in the circle of literature. Gresham's novel takes us into the world of traveling freakshow, in a P. T. Barnum style. A microcosm with its own group codes that makes one think of the circus clan of the acclaimed series Carnivale, although it reflects even more the alienating sleaze of "Freaks." Indeed, like Tod Browning's film, Gresham´s book was banned and / or censored,
and it did not prevent it from becoming an acclaimed work. Each of the 22 chapters symbolically begins with each of the Tarot major arcanas. To its original structure must be added the strangeness of its subject enriched with slang. Shakesperian melodrama of fall and raise ("Macbeth" "Othello," "Richard III") with psychological horror tones and black novel that revolves around a greedy carnival worker. Gresham weaves a web of careerism and atonement in which psychoanalysis fuses with the monstrous and the paranormal. The monster, the geek (a term that was created to designate a human being demoted to act like an abject monster in the first freakshows) flies over the circular story as an ominous image of providence; the Monster as an omnipresent character where Fear is the motor of the world, and therefore, a possible instrument of social control.

El libro que llegará traducido en Abril y que lleva el expeditivo título de "Skagboys" (skag es un término coloquial que alude a las drogas lúdicas) tendrá como fondo la thatcheriana Gran Bretaña de los 80 (esa que tan bien retrató la película "This is England"), época de desempleo y fractura que ayudará a comprender el rumbo tomado por la pandilla de Edimburgo. — "Trainspotting" fans (book, movie, or both) are in luck. — Bocas del Toro es uno de esos lugares que estás deseando recomendar a quien aprecias, mientras dudas de si no es mejor guardarte el secreto para que permanezca puro.
Pero la necesidad de compartir el privilegio vivido es más fuerte que el placer egoísta de la discreción. La espectacular combinación de selva, playas, manglares, arrecifes y oleaje, y una convivencia insólita de razas y estilos de vida, convierten a Bocas del Toro en uno de los parajes más singulares del planeta. Bocas del Toro es Caribe y recibe turistas, pero aquí no existen las multitudes de temporada, no hay que pelearse por un taxi, no se estila el “todo incluido”. Hablamos de un hermoso rincón natural y humano virgen en muchos sentidos, donde siempre se puede empezar con calma. Para los buceadores ofrece una variedad casi obscena: Punto Manglar, Big Baight y Boca del Drago, en la bahía de isla Colón; Luz de Cristóbal y Cristóbal Uno, en la costa de Isla Cristóbal; los arrecifes de Crawl Key;

Para los surferos es un buen lugar donde jugársela, cabalgando las olas de Playa Bluff en isla Colón, las de Bastimentos Lodge –menos frecuentadas- o las de la parte norte de Cayo Carenero, donde el riesgo aumenta ante la proximidad de los corales. Para los buscadores de especies, cientos de plantas vasculares dominadas por el cedro bateo y el mayo blanco, 28 especies de reptiles y anfibios de las que 17 han conseguido aquí sobrevivir a la extinción, 13 tipologías de murciélago y 68 especies de aves que difí-
cilmente podrían verse reunidas y libres en otra parte del mundo. Pero Bocas es sobre todo un archipiélago donde la vida fluye y recupera su sabor esencial: en el color de la vegetación y del ropaje, los olores del aire y la comida, el trabajo pausado, el paseo de la tarde, las conversaciones con la gente. El cóctel de etnias y nacionalidades que habitan Bocas incluye población panameña y española, indígenas, anglo y franco parlantes, europeos, sud y norteamericanos. Hay que mezclarse con ellos, porque sienta realmente bien. Después, cualquier noche de Bocas puede empezar con una clásica cena caribeña de arroz con

A la mañana siguiente, la Naturaleza vuelve a ofrecerse a cambio de que se sepa convivir con ella.

But the need to share the privilege is stronger than the selfish pleasure of discretion. The spectacular combination of jungle, beaches, mangroves, reefs and waves, and an unusual coexistence of races and lifestyles, make Bocas del Toro one of the most unique places on earth. Bocas del Toro is in the Caribbean sea and obviously it welcomes tourists, but here there are no seasonal crowds, no fights for a taxi, "all inclusive" is no fashionable. We speak of a beautiful natural and human corner, virgin in many ways, where you can always start slowly. For divers it offers an almost obscene variety: Punto manglar, Big Baight and Boca del Drago in the Bay of Colon island; Luz de Cristobal and Cristobal Uno on the coast of Isla Cristobal; Crawl Key reefs, Key Zapatillas in the National Marine Park of Isla Bastimentos. For surfers is a good place for risking, surfing in Bluff Beach on Isla Colon, on Bastimentos Lodge-the less frequented-, or in the northern part of Key Carenero, where the risk increases with the proximity of corals. For seekers of species, hundreds of vascular plants dominated by the Panamanian cedar and the white may, 28 species of reptiles and amphibians, 17 of which have managed to survive extinction here, 13
types of bats and 68 species of birds that you could hardly watched, altogether and freely, elsewhere. But primarily Bocas is an archipelago where life flows and returns to its essential flavor: the color of vegetation and clothing, the smells of air and food, slow work, walking in the afternoon, talking with people . The cocktail of ethnic groups and nationalities living in Bocas includes Panamanian and Spanish population, Indians, Anglo and French-speakings, Europeans, South and North Americans. You have to mix with them, because it does a lot of good. Then, any night in Bocas starts with a classic Caribbean dinner with rice with coconut and guandú with seafood, and after that, plunging into a healthy party with music and dance among people from everywhere. A few good places let you choose the intensity of the adventure and dressing it with cold beer or excellent rum. Although I have a soft spot for La Iguana, the bar of a Spanish man who went to the Panama Caribbean region, and discovering Bocas del Toro decided to sell everything he owned and settled here permanently to enjoy his passion for surfing and reggae. The next morning, Nature again offers itself in exchange for coexistence.

El fuego es el elemento alrededor del cual gira la magia que envuelve a la noche de San Juan (23 de junio). Fiesta declarada de Interés Turístico Nacional en la que las llamas, la arena y el salitre se fusionan con el poder de hechizos ancestrales y rituales que dan forma al ocaso más misterioso del año. Pero esta vez hay algo más. Este año la fiesta cae en sábado y para celebrarlo la ciudad entera se convertirá en un gran escenario donde la música y la magia invadirán todos los rincones. Pocas semanas después el fuego cederá el protagonismo al mar. Y A Coruña se convertirá en el centro de atención de los aficionados al turismo náutico gracias a la Tall Ships Race, mítica regata formada por una flota de más de setenta veleros 58

GALICIA, MANUAL DE INSTRUCCIONES GALICIA, A USER’S MANUAL
Cap. I - La Hostelería. Galicia es un país de bares poco acogedores y camareros mal encarados donde las barras son de granito rosa, los taburetes duros y la luz de neón. Los napolitanos os dirán que sólo hay dos tipos de pizza: la marinara y la margarita. Los gallegos juzgan a los bares por la calidad de dos tapas: la ensaladilla y la tortilla. Tortillas, como copos de nieve, no hay dos iguales y la mejor es la de mi madre. En Galicia se hace con las mejores patatas de Europa y el huevo suelto. La ensaladilla es un engrudo jugoso hecho con las mejores patatas de Europa, guisantes, zanahoria, atún, huevo y ma yo ne sa. Ella se bate como haciendo mayonesa. Los hosteleros gallegos hablan en plural mayestático (‘¿Que ponemos?’) y no es que sean desagradables, es que no os conocen. En el fondo es una cuestión de desconfianza. El cliente es culpable hasta que se demuestre lo contrario. Si buscáis camareros con salero es mejor que vayáis al bar Las Columnas de Sevilla, donde al que pide le llaman 'vocalista'. La rumbosidad de la hosteleria gallega está en otro sitio. En las tapas gratis; en la elección generosa de las materias primas (aunque eso reduzca los margenes); en la calidad del pan. Y en los tragos largos. Cuando hay que dar el alto al camarero y decirle “deja algo de sitio para la tónica, no?” Galicia tiene un complejo sistema de medir la comida en los bares: pincho, tapa, media-ración, plato, ración y fuente. Todas las iniciativas para llevar este sistema ante la Oficina Internacional de Pesas y Medidas de París han fracasado. En los bares gallegos las servilletas son no-porosas y ni secan ni limpian.

Las aceitunas y las patatas no se pagan. El Ribeiro se bebe en jarras blancas y el Barrantes mancha los dientes. A las hamburguesas que no son completas no es que les falte algo. Es sólo que no llevan queso, lechuga y tomate. En los bares gallegos se puede leer el periodico gratis, queda cutre pedir agua del grifo, el café se toma con aguardiente y el licor se toma con café. Una vez en Carnota, a las 4 y media de la tarde, llegué a un bar vacío y dije al dueño "Puedo comer algo jefe?, ya sé que es tarde pero es que me lie en Cee y", "No me cuentes tu vida" – me cortó. Luego me sirvió el mejor raxo que he probado nunca.
Chap. I - The Restaurant. Galicia is a country of unwelcoming bars and sour-faced bartenders, with pink granite bars, hard stools and neon lights. Neapolitans will tell you that there are only two types of pizza: the marinara and margarita. Galicians evaluate the quality of their bars based on the quality of two tapas: the Russian salad and the Spanish omelet. Omelets, like snowflakes, no two are alike and the best is that of my mother´s. In Galicia the omelet is made with the best potatoes in Europe and with underdone egg. The Russian salad is a juicy paste made with the best European potatoes, peas, carrots, tuna, egg and mayonnaise. She is beating like if she were making mayonnaise. The owners in Galicia use the royal “we” when speaking ('What are we going to eat?') and they are not unpleasant, the problem is that they do not know you. Deep down, it is a matter of mistrust. The customer is guilty until proven otherwise. If you are looking for funny waiters, you´ll better go to the bar Las Columnas in Seville, where the customer who orders something is called “the vocalist'. The funny character of Galician hospitality is elsewhere. In the free tapas, in the generous choice of raw materials (although that reduces the profits), in the quality of bread. And in the long drinks. I mean, when you have to ask the waiter "please, leave some space for the tonic, right?" Galicia has a complex system of measuring food at the bars: pincho, tapa, half ración and dish. MARZO GALLEGO: UN LUJO GASTRONÓMICO GALICIAN MARCH: A GASTRONOMIC LUXURY
Marzo era, tradicionalmente y hasta alrededor del año 600 desde la fundación de la ciudad (ab urbe condita) el mes en que los romanos celebraban el principio de año, fecha que coincidía con los idus de ese mes dedicado a Marte (el día 15) y que, en la fecha apuntada, se cambió a las calendas de enero (1 de enero), mes que pasó de ser el undécimo del calendario romano a ser el primero. Marzo es, pues, un mes estupendo para empezar una nueva andadura de nuestra revista, aunque sea en el año MMDCCLXV de la Era Romana. Marzo, en Galicia, es un mes gastronómicamente glorioso. Sigue a los excesos de febrero, mes marcado por el Carnaval; en otra época, la Cuaresma impondría cierta austeridad en la mesa; hoy... poco peso tienen las penitencias cuaresmales en nuestras costumbres. En marzo seguimos comiendo cocidos y laconadas, que son
las máximas expresiones de la devoción que el gallego siente por ese animal que fue el sostén de la cristiandad carnívora y al que un paisano proclamó la mejor de las aves cuando, preguntado sobre cuál era su plumífero preferido, contestó: “Si o porco voara...” (si el cerdo volara...) Sí: en marzo aún se puede disfrutar de un gran cocido, de un cocido “de crego” (de cura), como quería Cunqueiro. En marzo apunta la primavera, pero el canto del cuco todavía no marca el final de la temporada de uno de los seres más extraños que pueden llevarse a la cazuela: la lamprea, vestigio de épocas muy remotas (unos 400

millones de años), precursor de los vertebrados, que cada invierno regresa al río en que nació para reproducirse y morir... si no es capturada antes y pasa a ser cocinada con la fórmula tradicional, presente en ambas esquinas del Camino de Santiago: su sangre y un buen vino son ingredientes fundamentales del viejo y magnífico guiso. Y en marzo están fantásticas las centollas, ese marisco con el que (junto al percebe) sueñan todos los que nos visitan. Una centolla por supuesto gallega, cocida en agua salada unas horas antes para comerla a temperatura aún algo tibia (morna), repartiendo esfuerzos entre el contenido semilíquido de lo
que llamamos caparazón, la sabrosa carne de las patas y la esquiva y trabajosa de las celdillas... Un placer como hay pocos, especialmente si la regamos con uno de los cada vez más fantásticos blancos gallegos. Sí: marzo es mucho marzo en la mesa gallega, una mesa basada en una despensa privilegiada y surtida con una cocina más sencilla que complicada, pero una cocina sabia y perfectamente adaptada al clima y a la tierra. Ya ven que podemos celebrar el bautizo de “M\A\S\G\A\L\I\C\I\A” por todo lo alto, cosa que, por otra parte, es verdaderamente justa y necesaria.

Poca gente sabe que Douro (además del Oporto) tiene vinos fantásticos como PostScriptum, proyecto común entre la famosa familia Symington (Oporto Graham’s) y el conocido enólogo Bruno Prats. Este vino tiene un hermano mayor (y más caro) que se llama Chrysea, pero yo os recomiendo PostScriptum por su buena relación calidad/precio. Uvas: Touriga Nacional y Touriga Franca con Tinta Roriz y Tinta Barroca. Nota de cata: Color púrpura oscuro, vino concentrado que en nariz huele a violetas y a mermelada de frutas negras. En boca, toque dulce por los taninos con gran complejidad de sabores a ciruela y a confitura de frutas negras. Maridaje: carne de caza y estofados. 19-20 €.
Un secreto por descubrir! El enólogo en Astrales es Eduardo García y es el hijo de Mariano García, ex-enólogo de las Bodegas Vega Sicilia y propietario y enólogo de Bodegas Mauro. Eduardo tiene el talento de su padre y produce vinos excelentes con puntuaciones muy altas en la guía de Robert Parker. Este vino en concreto tiene 92 puntos Parker. Uvas: Tinto fino. Nota de cata: Color cereza, aromas de mora, grosella negra, vainilla y un toque de eucalipto. En boca rico en taninos pero fresco y con toques de roble. Tiene un final largo. Maridaje: Chuletón de Buey. 23-24 €. Una buena opción para salirse de los Riojas y Riberas del Duero más conocidos.

A secret to be discovered! In Astrales the winemaker is Eduardo Garcia, Mariano Garcia´s son, former winemaker of Vega Sicilia and owner and winemaker of Bodegas Mauro. Eduardo has the talent of his father and produces excellent wines with very high scores in Robert Parker guide. This wine in particular has 92 Parker points. Grapes: Red fine. Tasting notes: Deep cherry color, aromas of blackberry, black currant, vanilla and a touch of eucalyptus. On the palate it is rich in tannins but fresh with hints of oak. It has a long finish. Pairing: Beef Steak. 23-24 €. A good option to get out of the banks of the better known Riojas and Riberas del Duero.

Purple Angel 2007, Valle Colchagua Chile Tocado por las alas de un ángel! Mi descubrimiento del último año. La bodega pionera de Chile Montes produce este gran vino de Carmenère. Esta uva se cultivaba originalmente en Burdeos (Francia), pero hoy en día es el varietal emblemático de Chile. Uvas: Carmenère y un pequeño porcentaje de Petit verdot. Nota de cata: Color púrpura, en nariz fruta negra y especias como vainilla y canela. En boca, muy complejo con toques de pimienta dulce, tabaco y frutas negras. Maridaje: Carne roja sin y con salsas fuertes. 33-38 €. Un monstruo de vino! Muy rico, pero como muchos vinos en esta categoría de precios, difícil de decir si vale tanto para el precio…
Touched by the wings of an angel! My discovery of the last year. The pioneer winery in Chile, Montes, makes this Carmenère great wine. This grape was grown originally in Bordeaux (France), but today it is the flagship varietal of Chile. Grapes: Carmenère and a small percentage of Petit Verdot. Tasting notes: purple color, black fruit and spices such as vanilla and cinnamon on the nose. On the palate, very complex with hints of sweet pepper, tobacco and black fruits. Pairing: Red meat with and without heavy sauces. 33-38 €. A monster of a wine! Very tasty, but as many wines in this price category, difficult to say if it is worth the price...

Villa Maria Private Bin Sauvignon Blanc 2011 Malborough Nueva Zelanda Marlborough en Nueva Zelanda es un DO con un clima frío, donde los varietales Sauvignon Blanc y Pinot Noir florecen muy bien. Este vino viene de la emblemática casa Villa Maria que desde hace 50 años realiza vinos excelentes. Uvas: Sauvignon Blanc. Nota de cata: Color Amarillo pálido, muy aromático en nariz, con aromas de un frutero lleno de cítricos (lima, pomelo...). En boca posee un alto nivel de acidez, típico de un clima frío y fresco, con buena concentración de cítricos con fruta de la pasión. Maridaje: Ensalada templada con rape y langostinos o una mariscada (ya sabéis Gallegos de lo que estoy hablando!). 8-9 €. Pruébala en vez del Albariño de siempre!
Marlborough in New Zealand is a DO with a cold climate, where the varietal Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir flourish very well. This wine comes from the iconic house Villa Maria which has been making excellent wines for 50 years. Grapes: Sauvignon Blanc. Tasting notes: Pale yellow color, very aromatic nose with aromas of a bowl full of citrus fruit (lime, grapefruit ...). The palate has a high level of acidity, typical of a cold and fresh climate, with good concentration of citrus fruit with passion fruit. Pairing: Warm salad with monkfish and shrimp or seafood (you, Galician people, know very well what I mean!) 8-9 €. Try it instead of the usual Albariño!

Puede parecer increíble, pero el grito de guerra del 98% de las madres de los setenta y ochenta es hoy una máxima cool. Nada de desayunos, comidas de empresa o cenas con amigos. Atrás han quedado el brunch y las reuniones afterwork. Lo último en reuniones sociales es la merienda. El café con leche ha regresado a lo alto de los podios chic, después de años en el ostracismo más cruel. Hace ya unos años que Londres ha recuperado el charm de las tardes en el café del hotel Savoy, donde es fácil encontrarse con los hypsters más en boga de la ciudad merendando con aire displicente un te y una bandeja de tres pisos –sándwiches de pepino, bagles y pastelitos-, por un precio que ronda los 60 euros. Ahora la tendencia llega a España, y esta vez Galicia está siendo pionera en la adopción de una moda que para nosotros es casi costumbre. Cada vez son más los locales que se apuntan a resucitar esta comida, incluyendo la merienda –tal cual- en sus menús habituales, porque mientras en otros lugares han empezado por adaptar el contenido del brunch, en Galicia nos ha bastado con recuperar “lo nuestro”. Se llevan los cafés con bollos, los churros con chocolate, las tartas con infusiones y quedar con los amigos, con los colegas y con los clientes por la tarde, frente a una taza humeante y un buen dulce. Acabo de enterarme de que Karl Lagerfeld desde su ridícula y arrepentida anatomía opina que la cantante Adele está demasiado gorda y una vez más pienso que alguien debería frenar ya esta locura. En España la mayoría de las mujeres usan las tallas 42 y 44, pero la Moda parece mirar hacia otro lado. Cuántos diseñadores ignoran a las clientas que pasan de la 42, en ellas ya nadie piensa. Hace años que cuelga el cartel de agárrate que vienen curvas; mentira, las pasarelas y editoriales de moda extienden conscientemente una interminable línea recta. Hasta los ángeles tienen secrets y desfilan en ayunas, vaya mérito. Si para ser bella hay que dejar la buena mesa, no sé yo. Por el momento, a nadie le interesa vestir a las mujeres reales sin antes dejar bien claro que es un esfuerzo y que la ropa sólo sienta bien a las delgadas. Señores, que hay gordas que quieren ser gordas y son listas, guapas e incluso aburridas, que sean lo que quieran y que puedan vestirse con lo que se les antoje, en su talla. La publicidad ha aniquilado las redondeces, sólo se salvan Body Shop, Dove y alguna Christina Hendricks. De las chicas plus, casi nadie habla, pero las curvas de Carla Trujillo, Yaiza Aroca o Laura Morera son
sanas, lozanas y envidiables. Que no nos las estrechen en las próximas campañas. La dictadura de la Moda es implacable, su báscula no perdona. Qué mundo tan raro que permite reventones en tetas y labios y exige sección especial en las tiendas para cuerpos 44. Seamos sinceros, muchas de las prendas de rellenitas piden a gritos que nadie se las pruebe. Castigadas sin comer, es que acaso las famélicas rellenan bien los patrones. Pues vaya chasco, no encerremos la belleza en unas escasas coordenadas corporales. Marcas como Elena Miró o Marina Rinaldi son auténticos oasis para las más afortunadas rellenitas. Trato exquisito, sin crueles miradas directas a los michelines. Por qué estamos tan obsesionados con un número oculto en una etiqueta que retiramos al llegar a casa. Si vamos bien vestidas y no

embutidas en una talla que no nos corresponde, todo el mundo nos verá guapas, nadie sabrá si somos 38, 40 ó 42. Es cuestión de armonía y proporción. La mayoría de los hombres, aunque se cuidan, no están ofuscados con su tallaje, y en cambio, sonríen al dar la minitalla de su acompañante. Moda cada vez más globalizada, salvo en cuestión de tallas; con lo útil que sería unificarlas, de una vez por todas. Las mujeres no queremos perder el tiempo probando patrones equivocados, pedimos ropa que nos favorezca. Necesitamos trajes de baño que no nos ahoguen ya en la arena. Desde las grandes cadenas nos engañan con las llamadas tallas de la vanidad para contentarnos y volvernos cada vez más paranoicas. Después de que los años 20 las encumbrasen como súmmum del estilo, los 70 las relegaron a un segundo plano del que sólo ahora empiezan a salir. No hablamos de manicuras de mantenimiento, de colores “it” de temporada, ni de cremas regeneradoras. Hablamos de unas manos de “starlet” incontestables y fabulosas, no aptas para comedidas. Atrás quedan las uñas cortas y cuadradas, el colmo de los trendy hasta hace unos días. Las nuevas manicuras recuperan la tendencia almendrada de los años 20 y 60: unas uñas ligeramente redondeadas y algo más largas que la yema del dedo. Esas uñas, “esas”, las que lucía Marilyn, las que agitaba Sofía Loren, las que hoy ha resucitado la reina del burlesque con más estilo, Dita Von Teese. Unas uñas propicias al arañazo, femeninas sin pudor y desde luego chics. La pasarela nos lo había anticipado, recuperando la tendencia “glam” de años atrás, pero sin las estridencias de los ochenta que tanto miedo infunden en las redacciones de moda –Alexander McQueen fue sin duda una de las firmas prescriptoras-,
DRAWING OUR CLAWS pero, como siempre, es el backstage el que marca la tendencia, y es en él en el que primero y con mejor perspectiva vimos aflorar esta nueva manicura. Celebrities, bloggers de moda, it girls y frontrowistas varios pusieron sus manos a disposición de la tendencia, y lo que hace seis meses era un derroche de uñas cortas y cuadradas, en colores fluor o en los negros más tornasolados se transformó en un desfile de garras afiladas pintadas de rojo Valentino. Y, también como casi siempre, podemos encontrar en el cine y la televisión una fuente de creación e inspiración inagotable. Porque, ¿qué fue antes, el boom de la estética Mad Men, el triunfo flapper de The Artist, o el regreso de las manicuras lujosas y esmeradas? Sea como fuere, apostamos sobre seguro si vaticinamos que, de aquí al verano, toda mano femenina que se precie lucirá uña de gata y refinada manicura. Los centros de belleza especializados empiezan ya a ofrecer el servicio como un aliciente, y las clientas más avispadas se han lanzado ya a probarlo. Si queremos evitar el “efecto abuela” es mejor obviar los esmaltes dema-
siado claros o con efecto nacarado, algo que saben muy bien las casas de cosmética de lujo: sus desfiles de la próxima temporada recurren a mil tonos de rojo –de modernos cereza de OPI al ya clásico rouge noir de Chanel-, pero tampoco prescinden de la fantasía –los azules, omnipresentes en las últimas temporadas, se mantienen con fuerza en la paleta de colores-. Y si queremos un plus de elegancia, nada mejor que recurrir a la media luna inferior, un esmaltado que logra el efecto “gata” que esta manicura requiere y que marcará la tendencia en los próximos meses. Exalted in the 20's as the highest degree of style, the 70´s relegated them to a background they are now beginning to leave. We do not talk about maintenance manicures, about “it” seasonal colours or regenerative creams. We talk about the hands of a starlet, incontestable and fabulous, not suitable for restrained people. Gone are the short and square nails, the trendiest a few days ago. New manicures recover the almondshaped trends of the 20´s and 60´s: nails slightly rounded and a bit longer than the fingertip. Those nails, "those", are Marilyn´s nails, Sofia Loren´s nails, those nails today revived by the queen of the burlesque, Dita Von Teese. Nails that incite to scratching, unabashedly feminine and, of course, chic. The catwalk had already anticipated it, recovering the glam trend of previous years, but without the stridency of the 80´s so much feared in the fashion editorial departments –undoubtedly Alexander McQueen was one of the firms that put a veto on it - , but, as always, the backstage sets the trend, and it was in the backstage where we first saw the resurgence of this new manicure. Celebrities, popular bloggers, “it” girls and different frontrowist have dedicated to this trend, and if six months ago it was a tremendous display of short and square nails, with fluorescent colours or with the most iridescent blacks, it finally became a fashion show of sharp claws painted with red Valentino.
And also as usual, we can find a source of inexhaustible inspiration and creation in movies and television. And so, what was born before? the boom of the Madmen style, the flapper triumph of The Artist, or the return of luxury and neatly done manicures? Anyway, we bet on sure if we predict that, by the summer, every self-respecting female hand will wear a cat claw and a refined manicure. The specialized beauty centers are beginning to offer this service as an incentive, and the sharpest clients have already decided to try it. If we want to avoid the "Grandma effect", it is better to avoid those too light nail polishes or with a pearlescent effect, something that is very well known by the luxury cosmetics brands: their fashion shows for next season use a thousand shades of red, -from the modern cherry shades of OPI to the already classic Chanel´s rouge noir- , neither did they dispense with the fantasy shades -blue shades, omnipresent in the last seasons, remains strongly in the colour palette. And if we want a plus of elegance, nothing better than paying attention to the moon or lunula, a varnish that achieves the “cat” effect that this manicure requires and that will mark the trend in the coming months. EL NAVAL PÚBLICO, EN PELIGRO THE NAVAL PUBLIC SECTOR IN DANGER
El naval gallego vuelve a tocar fondo. Navantia, el astillero público de la ría ferrolana, pasa por un momento crítico: se quedará sin carga de trabajo a fines de 2013. La falta de pedidos hace peligrar cerca de 6.000 empleos directos y tantos otros derivados de las compañías auxiliares. El macrocontrato con Australia llega a su fin y las marinas extranjeras, han congelado los concursos para modernizar sus flotas. El histórico astillero militar, La Naval, Bazán y el antiguo ASTANO (luego IZAR), que durante décadas fueron el pulmón económico de la comarca, atraviesan su peor hora. Los trabajadores, reivindican nuevos contratos y exigen al Gobierno que se implique directamente en las negociaciones; necesitan contratar fragatas porque sino, el naval, un sector clave para la economía gallega, se irá a pique. Demanda unánime del comité de empresa y sindicatos, es también la construcción de un dique flotante

para reparar grandes buques, por cuanto generaría dos años y medio de carga de trabajo para unos 900 operarios. Tras más de tres siglos en la cima de la tecnología aplicada a la construcción naval –de sus diques ha salido, entre otros, el portaaviones Príncipe de Asturias- Ferrolterra, lastrada por la crisis desde los difíciles años de la reconversión, tiene complicado su futuro a corto plazo. También el astillero vigués Factorías Vulcano, se encuentra en concurso de acreedores y suspensión de pagos. Con la crisis de los astilleros, Galicia ve amenazados miles de puestos de trabajo. Además, las construcciones de los astilleros son un referente en el tejido empresarial. Alberto Núñez Feijoo, Presidente de la Xunta y José Manuel Soria, Ministro de Industria, tienen mucho que pactar, acordar, decir y cumplir en materia tan alarmante para todos los gallegos.

Galician naval industry hits bottom again. Navantia, the public shipyard located in the estuary of Ferrol, is in a critical condition: it will run out of work by the end of 2013. The lack of orders threatens about 6,000 direct jobs and a similar number of others in auxiliary companies. The macro contract with Australia is about to come to an end and foreign navies have frozen the modernization of their fleets. The historic military shipyard, La Naval, Bazán, and the old ASTANO (later IZAR), for decades the economic heart of the region, are experiencing their worst hours. Workers demand new contracts and ask the Government to be directly involved in the negotiations; they need to sign new contracts; otherwise, the naval sector, a key sector for the Galician economy, will founder. Another unanimous demand of the works council and trade unions is the building of a floating dike which would serve to repair
large ships, and would generate a workload for about 900 workers during two years and a half. After more than three centuries at the top of the technology applied to shipbuilding – they have built, among others, the aircraft carrier Principe de Asturias -Ferrolterra, burdened by the crisis since the difficult years of the industrial restructuration, has a very difficult future in the short term. In Vigo, the shipyard Factorías Vulcano is in bankruptcy as well. With the crisis of the shipyards, thousands of jobs are threatened in Galicia. Moreover, shipyards are a reference point in the local industry. Alberto Nuñez Feijoo, President of the Xunta and José Manuel Soria, Minister of Industry, have a lot to negotiate, to agree, to decide and to carry out regarding this alarming issue for Galicians.

DÍA INTERNACIONAL DE LA MUJER INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY
Cada 8 de Marzo, la comunidad internacional recuerda los esfuerzos dirigidos a normalizar la situación de las mujeres en el mundo. Y ello en un momento en el que ser mujer sigue siendo, en general, un factor de pobreza y exclusión, de falta de oportunidades profesionales y hasta de riesgo personal. El Ayuntamiento de A Coruña, a través del Centro de Información a la Mujer, desarrolla hoy diferentes estrategias que tienen como fin contribuir a un cambio global y sostenible de tal situación. Asesoramiento psicológico, jurídico y social, lucha contra la discriminación, fomento de la participación socio-laboral y construcción de relaciones de igualdad, conciliación y corresponsabilidad e investigación, y planificación y evaluación de las políticas de igualdad son los diferentes programas desarrollados. Con todo, un camino consolidado que busca un nuevo paradigma en las relaciones interpersonales entre mujeres y hombres, para el que todas y todos tenemos que poner nuestro granito de arena. Camino que mira hacia el futuro con nuevo impulso, pretendiendo involucrar a todo el Ayuntamiento en la implantación de la perspectiva de género, e incrementando el trabajo por parte de las profesionales del CIM, con la mirada puesta de forma especial en entidades y colectivos fuera del ámbito estricto de la Administración local. Y todo ello, en un contexto

en el que habrá mayor y más variada demanda por parte de la población, donde será indispensable incrementar tales sinergias con todo tipo de entidades sociales, como factor clave de éxito de la sostenibilidad del conjunto y del advenimiento de una nueva lógica de roles y estereotipos, como contraposición a aquellos que limitan y marcan el desarrollo de hombres y mujeres. Especial atención merece, además, el capítulo de empleabilidad de las mujeres en situación vulnerable, haciendo especial hincapié en las mujeres víctima de violencia de género. Una situación donde la sociedad organizada y la Administración no pueden hacer dejación de una labor necesaria e inaplazable para conseguir un mundo mejor.
Every March 8th, the international community remembers the efforts to normalize the situation of women in the world. And this in a moment when a woman is still, generally, a factor of poverty and exclusion, lack of career opportunities and even personal risk. The Council of A Coruña, through the Information Center for Women, develops today different strategies aimed to contribute to global and sustainable change of this situation. The different programs are psychological, legal and social counseling, struggle against discrimination, promotion of social and labor participation and building relationships of equality, conciliation and co responsibility and research, and planning and evaluation of equality policies. However, a consolidated path that looks for a new paradigm in interpersonal relationships between women and men, for which we all have to put our two cents. It is a path that looks towards the future with renewed enthusiasm, trying to involve the whole city counsel in the implementation of gender mainstreaming and increasing the work by the CIM professionals, with an eye specially set on entities and groups outside the strict limits of local government. And all that in a context where there will be greater and more varied demand from the population, where it will be essential to enhance such synergies with all kinds of social organizations, as key factor for the success of sustainability of the whole group and the advent of a new logic of roles and stereotypes, as opposed to those that limit and define the development of men and women. Special mention also to the chapter of employability for women in vulnerable situations, with particular emphasis on those women who are victims of gender violence. A situation where organized society and Administrations cannot neglect the necessary and urgent work to achieve a better world.
