MESSAGE FROM THE CHAIR BY INDIRA K. SHARMA, SECTION CHAIR(Indira.Sharma@saul.com) Happy New Year, Young Lawyers! As we think about New Year’s resolutions, let us think about resolving to take better care of ourselves, both physically and mentally, so that we can be better lawyers for our clients and better people for our families. Our profession is rewarding but demanding, with the potential to be very stressful. Over time, the demands of our profession can negatively impact our health, happiness and wellbeing. As part of our new Lawyer Wellness Committee, we have been focusing on fitness inspired by busy lawyers themselves who have found the time to prioritize their health. If they can do it, you can do it too! In the next few months, we will add programs on stress-relief and meditation. With the right mindset and tools for managing stress, the stress can and will dissolve. I have been practicing law for 12 years (which makes me not so much of a young lawyer anymore) and have learned that, as a young lawyer, if you develop good self-care habits early on, then you will set yourself up for both career success and happiness in the long run. Only through self-care can we realize our full potential.

“Only through self-care can we realize our full potential.”

I would like to take this opportunity to again invite you to our 28th Annual Charity Event on April 12, 2019 at Gertrude’s at the Baltimore Museum of Art from 6:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. We are proudly raising money this year for The Capital Area Immigrants’ Rights (CAIR) Coalition dedicated to defending immigrant men, women and children. With an increased threat to the rights of immigrants in our country, it is important to come together to support this timely cause. Our event promises to be a fabulous evening with hors d’oeuvres, open bar and a silent auction. We are seeking sponsors for the event and donations for the silent auction items. I would especially like to thank our amazing co-chairs of the Activities Committee who have been working tirelessly to ensure the success of our event – Thank you Lauren Lake, Jessica Gorsky and Kelly Goebel! Please feel free to contact one of our co-chairs or myself if you would like to sponsor the event or contribute to the silent auction. I look forward to seeing you at the event! Have a wonderful 2019 filled with more self-care and tons of great Young Lawyers Section (YLS) events!
