CARDIAC REHAB Kannel and Goodmanson get some attention from Gina Smith, BSN.

THREE PHASES: PATIENT CARE AT CARDIAC REHAB

Mary Greeley’s cardiac rehabilitation unit provides three phases of services. They include:

PHASE 1:

Hospitalized patients receive educational training from cardiac rehab nurses after they’ve been admitted with heart attacks, have had stents placed due to unstable angina or deal with cardiomyopathy (i.e. weakened heart muscle). Nurses assist the patients with activity progression while they’re hospitalized, and then refer them either to Mary Greeley’s second phase of cardiac rehab or to a similar program closer to their homes.

PHASE 2:

Outpatient treatment assists former patients like Kannel and Goodmanson. Supervised exercise programs are offered, along with a variety classes and professional consultation.

PHASE 3:

This ongoing supervised program for former cardiac rehab patients isn’t covered by insurance and requires doctors’ prescriptions. Most attendees have participated for years, working out under nurses’ watch twice weekly. HEALTH CONNECT
