THE SAVING RURAL AMERICA TALK RADIO SHOW FRIDAY • AUGUST 17, 2012 • 12PM-1:30PM FEATURING: THE FEDERATION OF SOUTHERN COOPERATIVES/LAND ASSISTANCE FUND’S 45TH ANNUAL MEETING has been significant work, participation and development of low-income people and their communities. There are three major themes of the Federation’s mission, work and accomplishments over the past forty years:

On August 16-18, 2012, the Federation of Southern Cooperatives will celebrate 45 years of service to rural communities and making a difference for humankind. In the four decades since the founding of the Federation of Southern Cooperatives, there

• to develop cooperatives and credit unions as a means for people to enhance the quality of their lives and improve their communities; • to save, protect and expand the landholdings of Black family farmers in the South; • to develop, advocate and support public policies to benefit our membership of Black and other family farmers and low income rural communities. Throughout

Federation has woven these themes together to create a strong community based movement of organizations seeped in struggle, tested by time, experienced in fighting exploitation and knowledgeable of the tactics, tools and techniques needed to help people build their own property and progress. The Federation has maintained a membership of low-income grassroots people, organized into cooperatives and credit unions to make quantitative and qualitative changes in their lives and communities.Currently,there are over 70 active cooperative member groups, themselves with a membership of more than 20,000 families working together across ten southern states, with a concentration in Mississippi,

Alabama, Georgia and South. Join us on August 17-18 at the Federation’s Rural Training and Research Center in Epes,Alabama. On Friday, August 17th from 8:00AM – 4:00PM, we will hold a series of activities to include exhibits; key speakers, USDA panel discussions, workshops on cooperatives, agroforestry, conservation, farm credit; agritours and update on the Pigford Class Action Settlement. Later that evening at 6:00PM, enjoy the fun and excitement of the Live Auction and Fish Fry with live entertainment! Saturday’s meeting will begin with a Prayer Breakfast at 8:00AM and a sumptuous home cooked southern meal. Agenda items include the annual business meeting and state caucus reports.
