STREAM LINES

Temple University, 2013

Located in Ohiopyle state park, the Stream Lines Visitor Center is a reflection of the town it is situated upon. The site is strategically located at the intersection of the Great Allegheny Passage, a retired industrial railway which was renovated into a series of beautiful hiking and camping trails and parks. The visitor center takes advantage of these trails, inviting the path of exploration into its depths as an exploration of the areas past, present, and future.

15

As one hikes across the Great Allegheny Bridge and into the depths of the Fern Cliff Forest they first enter the visitors center. The first space crops the views down to the pure natural elements of the untouched forest depth, recalling the time period when the town was first settled. The second space is the location of the reclaimed Grist Mill wheel, refabricated to produce clean hydroelectricity for the structure.

As the visitor continues up the building and around the old fashioned mechanical elevator, their view is focused on the old industrial park and train track. They are then forced to climb the narrow, tall staircase to the next room. The sounds and sensations are meant to represent the Industrial Age and its transition into the Great Depression. As one reaches the top floor, the view opens up to across the river, exposing the present and potential future of the town.

OCCUPY LIBRARY Temple University, 2012

The act of reading a book is a very personal experience. This project reproduces this intimacy of interaction of element of its design. The desire for human interaction alters the traditional form of a bookshelf, entangling storage and occupation. This new form acts as the structural component of the library and begins to organize and separate programmatic functions.

FILTERED EXPERIENCE Temple University, 2011

This system allows for an experiential definition of path. Through a filtration process, both occupants and storm water runoff percolate through the design, transforming the forsaken megabus stop into a complex and interactive environment.

This house combines the rich nature of the Lambertville community and the landscape into a respectable modern dwelling for the painter. By expanding upon desired views, capturing the even northern light, designating large areas for storage and work, and by creating a large open floor plan for expositions and showings, La Maison Du Paintre is the perfect space for the creative mind of an artist.

Much like how a painter works in layers, each level of La Maison Du Paintre was designed to interact with the adjacent floors by interacting, overlooking, and / or flowing into the other. This opens up the layout of the residence, peeling away at the confinement of individual and rigid levels.

It is the creative studio space that most enjoys the open floor plan. While the space draws on both vertical and horizontal inspirations from the overall house, landscape, and existing community, it is the only part of the structure with diagonal components. Combining all aspects of its surroundings, this studio space allows for the painter to explore and develop new concepts.
