Our Proposal

OUR PROPOSAL PAGE 01 WHO ARE FUTURE HEALTH PARTNERSHIP? PAGE 02 We want you to join Future Health Partnership.

WHO DO WE WANT TO JOIN US? PAGE 03

As a practice owner that means you will share your ownership with all your employees. From that point, you will continue to be an owner involved in running your practice – you will simply have exchanged individual ownership for shared ownership.

OUR PARTNERSHIP APPROACH PAGE 04

As well as financial compensation, you will continue to enjoy the benefits – financial and otherwise – of playing a critical role in delivering highly effective dental care.

WHAT WILL THIS MEAN TO YOU? PAGE 05

In fact, our model will enable you to spend more time doing what you hopefully enjoy most – treating patients, having more leisure/family time or even being involved in the larger Future Health Partnership. It will significantly reduce the amount of time you currently need to spend dealing with the increasing burdens that come with running a practice. What is fundamentally important is that this change won’t just benefit you.

THIS EXCITING NEW CONCEPT IN THE DENTAL INDUSTRY WILL APPEAL GREATLY TO THOSE WHO ARE DISILLUSIONED WITH THE EVER INCREASING BURDEN OF RUNNING A DENTAL PRACTICE AND ALLOW THEM TO ENJOY TREATING PATIENTS AGAIN. Eddie Crouch, Dentist and Secretary of Birmingham LDC

Please read on to find out more about our unique approach and precisely how it could be a change for you to a better way of delivering dentistry.

Who are Future Health Partnership?

Future Health Partnership offers a fresh new approach that we hope will breathe new life into dentistry.

We are offering a new vision for the future of dental practice in the UK that is based on staff ownership. That’s the same business model that helps the John Lewis Partnership to be consistently voted the high street retailer most trusted by the UK public, based on their strong values and responsiveness to clients. Our new and exciting approach sets out a third way between running an independent practice or working for a large corporate. We are proposing a partnership model, in which everyone who plays a part in delivering dental care – from the receptionist through to the dentist themselves – are Partners in a shared enterprise.

We want to help you to achieve three critical goals: 1. to drive up the quality of care offered to patients; 2. provide an improved working environment for clinicians and support staff; and 3. to support a more sustainable future for dentistry.

Simon Gallier qualified as a dentist 30 years ago. He has been a general practitioner for over 20 years, he initially owned a mixed NHS-private practice in North London before turning to solely private practice when the “old” new contract came into force in the early 90’s. Latterly, he owned a multi-site mixed discipline practice in Harley Street encompassing general practice, high-end aesthetic dentistry, cerec and laser technology. Simon became Clinical Director of ADP – the third largest dental corporate – for a year (2009-2010) where he formed the opinion that this style of corporate dentistry was inappropriate for primary and secondary healthcare provision. Frustrated by the limitations of running his own practices, and subsequently working for a corporate, Simon set about finding a new way of delivering dentistry. Simon collaborated with employee ownership specialists Baxi Partnership to develop an approach to managing dental practices that will free up dentists to deliver high quality dental care through a model that is strongly aligned with their core values. Simon is passionate about the future delivery of healthcare. He believes that honesty, integrity and professionalism should be the mantra of all who wish to deliver it. He believes it is time for a new era.

Who are Future Health Partnership?

Kevin Rose has a financial and corporate background dating back to the late 1980’s. He now runs his own business improvement and mentoring consultancy for dental practice owners.

Qualified as dental technician in 1987 and ran his own dental laboratory in the West End of London from 1997 through to 2011. In 2009 he started a marketing consultancy exclusively helping dentists with their online marketing.

For 10 years Kevin was a Director of a global business finance company where he witnessed the financial and managerial pressures exerted upon owner managed business owners. He also experienced at first hand a corporate culture which eventually he became dissatisfied with as it no longer matched his own personal values.

Mark was awarded a Masters degree in Business Administration from the Open University in 2009 where he majored in Marketing & Creativity. Mark remains adamant that there is an alternate way for dentists not only to market their practices in a different way, but to organise and run their practices in a way that is more sustainable, profitable for all and beneficial for the patients... And that way is Employee Ownership.

In 2008 a chance meeting with a frustrated dental practice owner lead him to explore the challenges of dental practice ownership and find alternative ways to build, develop, manage and latterly own a dental practice. Kevin joined The Future Health Partnership as a founding partner and believes that his mantra of “doing the right thing” has found it’s perfect fit in employee ownership.

Our Employee Owned Approach

The primary focus of dentists and dental practices is to promote and maintain the oral health and well-being of patients.

Our approach is founded on four simple but vital elements around which we are building a highly effective dental business:

However, dentists have always had to spend time juggling the business aspects of running their practices whilst holding fast to their ethical standards. In recent years, for some this has felt like it is getting harder to do, and perhaps there is a risk of losing sight of why you entered the profession in the first place. At Future Health Partnership, our approach to managing dental practices sets out to ensure that this primary focus remains at the heart of dentistry once and for all.

04

1. A partnership business model

3. A highly ethical professionalism

Our business model offers a very different way of building on the gains that can come from placing a corporate structure around a group of practices. Through providing specialised support services across the group, we make the most of economies of scale and scope. We also remove the root causes of frustration by lifting the burden of bureaucracy away from individual practices, in turn freeing up clinician hours and cutting operating costs. What is different though is that everyone who works in Future Health Partnership becomes a Partner in the business – which brings with it a set of benefits which no other model can match.

Our approach is designed to allow dentists to focus on patients while rewarding the whole practice team for delivering high quality care. We combine our dentists’ mantra of honesty, integrity and professionalism with the principles of partnership: mutual respect, fair reward for hard work, and collaboration in the pursuit of shared goals. These values run through everything we do, and we are looking for partners who believe in the same and can lead by example.

2. A partnership culture that promotes productivity, innovation and high quality care Our culture is one in which everyone recognises they are partners in pursuit of shared goals. The combination of having both a stake in the business, and a meaningful say over how the business is run, significantly drives up the motivation of everyone involved in delivering dental care. From that enhanced motivation comes a drive for continual improvement which leads to increases in productivity, innovation, responsiveness, and levels of both staff and patient satisfaction.

4. A more sustainable future for dentistry Our twin focus of promoting the welfare of both patients and practitioners ensures that morale remains high throughout our practices. The partnership approach delivers reductions in absenteeism and increases the retention of highly qualified personnel – something critical to our profession. As our partners are the only owners in the business, decision-making is driven by the criteria of delivering high quality dental care and preserving the long-term future of our practices.

What Could It Mean For You?

Our ambition is to transform the delivery of dentistry by developing the largest network of staff owned dental practices in the UK. To achieve this, we have brought together a strong team and an established infrastructure initiated by Baxi Partnership, a unique business with a track record in driving successful employee ownership that stretches back almost 30 years.

The practice

The Partners

• Each practice will be assessed and valued on an individual basis.

• Every Partner is also an owner in the business.

• Each practice will continue to operate as it did previously whilst a full business review is carried out. The review will identify the core strengths in the practice and look to build on those whilst supporting any areas of weakness. Any subsequent changes to working practices will be agreed with the Partners working within that practice.

On this page we set out in more detail • Each practice will receive expert support from what joining us would entail for the the central Future Health Partnership team, and practice, the practice owner and the wider over time receive specialised support from across group of staff. In short, it means no the wider group of practices. sudden changes – just a spirit of cooperation, doing the right thing and a chance for everyone to benefit. The practice owner • Each practice owner will share their practice at a fair financial compensation. • The owner will be the lead clinician, unless they wish to make a case for not being so. (The practice manager will be the lead administrator.) In running the practice, both will be accountable to the Future Health Partnership Board. • Time freed up for owners from administrative duties will be used to strengthen the business, either through a greater focus on clinical matters or through supporting the growth and development of the wider Partnership.

• Every Partner gains four very important benefits on joining: 1. A stake in their own organisation: anyone who joins will instantly become a Partner and owner within Future Health Partnership; 2. Influence over how their organisation is run: every Partner has a direct say through our elected Partnership Council structure and our democratic Constitution. Partners help to set the direction of the overall business and hold leaders to account; 3. Participation in a partnership culture: every Partner has both rights and responsibilities, including to drive and share in the overall success of the business, to share and receive information transparently (including about the performance of the business), and to support colleagues to perform to their highest ability; 4. Fair reward for hard work: every Partner will receive a fair reward for their hard work through recognition of individual performance, and through the increasing value of their stake in a successful, growing partnership business.
