Marketplace Sotheby’s International Realty and Element Residential join forces to bring clean water to remote parts of Kenya.

O

ne of the things that are most important to Marketplace Sotheby’s, is our sense of community and our pride in giving back locally and internationally. Over the course of the last few years, we have seen this in a multitude of ways. Right now, Marketplace Sotheby’s and Element Residential, a local builder, are working closely on a new construction development near Echo Lake, but we are also working closely philanthropically. Element Residential’s owner, Joshua Freed gives back regularly and shares that giving spirit that is ingrained in our people at Marketplace Sotheby’s. In early October, Joshua and a few colleagues raised a staggering $40,000 and traveled to Papulio, in the Mara region of Kenya. Located there is the local tribe of the Maasai people. These wonderful people have never had access to clean water before. Women and young girls spend 3 or more hours every day traveling up to 3 kilometers away to their water source. When they arrive there, they must dig down 6 feet into the sand to find water. This means that girls and women cannot attend school. They are constantly in danger of traveling to the water source. They can be attacked by animals, including lions, and even

|5

people. The dirty water also leads to many diseases for the people and their livestock. Joshua and his colleagues have traveled to this area in the past and they knew this was no way for the Maasai people to continue their daily lives. With the $40,000 they raised, they were able to procure 1-of-7 drilling trucks in Kenya and bring it to their village. Once set up they were able to dig over 700 feet into the ground, to install the first well for clean water the Maasai have ever had. With this new well, their children will be able to attend school, digestive diseases will be reduced by up to 80%, and their livestock, that supports their financial welfare, will be better nourished. This give back project was done in partnership with the Maasai people and they have ownership of the project. MSIR is extremely grateful for their efforts and the Maasai people will be grateful for generations to come.

“With this new well, their children will be able to attend school, digestive diseases will be reduced by up to 80%”

Element Residential and MSIR have decided to push this giving campaign to the next level. We know there is an opportunity for a philanthropic partnership by leveraging our Element’s new construction project in Snohomish. The Estates at Quinn’s is an incredible luxury development that is located just minutes outside of Woodinville and next to the Echo Falls Golf Course. This 114-acre plat for 28 homes has 80-acres set aside as Native Growth Protection Areas. Lot sizes are a half-acre at a minimum. These homes are a modern take on the Craftsman and feature, tall ceilings, oversized windows, gourmet chef’s kitchens, stainless steel appliances, Huntwood cabinets, huge bedrooms, and timeless finishes. With a full price sale of a home in the Estates at Quinn’s, Element Residential will set aside money to dig wells, bringing clean water to people around the world! The impact of this community will reach faraway places and change the lives of so many around the world. With the efforts of our companies, our people, our clients, and our spheres, we can drive such an amazing campaign to bring clean water to those in need. If you’d like to be involved, please contact Carson.Espinoza@ sothebysrealty.com. We look forward to seeing you out at the Estates at Quinn’s.

Tacoma Tacoma serves as the center of business activity for the South Sound region, which is the third largest city in the state. The flourishing economy is due in part to the railroad and Tacoma’s location on the sound. The motto became “When rails meet sails” because The Port of Tacoma, a center of international trade on the Pacific Coast, is Washington State’s largest port.
