WHAT IS THE INFRASTRUCTURE ASSET MANAGEMENT PROFESSIONAL APPRENTICESHIP? This Apprenticeship enables organisations to utilise their Apprenticeship Levy to fund employees to study part-time towards a postgraduate qualification, and to develop the management and leadership capabilities required to lead asset management functions at a senior level. In 2023 the UK Government, industry stakeholders and partners created a standard for the knowledge, skills and behaviours expected from asset managers at a senior level. This level 7 Apprenticeship was designed to help managers and leaders achieve this standard and develop more sustainable organisations. Apprenticeships are an innovative way of retaining and attracting talent to your organisation. Apprentices are employed by you but will study at Loughborough University. They may be existing staff or new staff you have recruited into a job role that includes an apprenticeship. To be funded, employers must allow apprentices the equivalent of six hours a week of their working time to complete the Apprenticeship. This is known as off-the-job training and includes studying via a combination of face to face, interactive online and work-based learning. On the successful completion of their 28 month programme, apprentices receive a master’s in Infrastructure Asset Management from Loughborough University.

The Apprenticeship Levy All employers with a pay bill of more than £3 million automatically pay the Apprenticeship Levy of 0.5% to the Government. The Levy is Government ring-fenced money which can only be spent on apprenticeships and is forfeited if not used within two years.

Government Co-investment Organisations with a pay bill of less than £3 million may be eligible for the Government Co-investment fund. In this case, your organisation is responsible for just 5% of the cost of an apprenticeship. The payment system is simple with minimal effort for the employer: the Levy or Co-investment funds are transferred to your organisation’s apprenticeship account and the University draws their payment from there.
