About Face No Funding, No Full time Staff, No permanent Premises, volunteers involved , in kind support & equipment within existing Housing Service = SUSTAINABLE & NON RELIANT ON GRANT – SMALL, FLEXIBLE & LONG-TERM

TARGET GROUPS – hard to reach ( Homeless, drug & alcohol, young people, young mums & victims of domestic violence)

Breaking down barriers particularly socially & health wise has been very important. Homeless residents with drug/alcohol issues and residents through domestic violence as a marginalised grouping have been some of the biggest participants.
“ON YER BIKE�
Each ride or taster session includes supported housing schemes and general needs housing .Everyone is helpful & supportive and it is good fun. OYB has impacted on tenants physically, socially & by increasing well-being & confidence.

Cycling is extremely affordable & accessible. OYB has promoted opportunities using local trails urban & rural. Bicycles, instruction & encouragement have been given in ways that are not stigmatising as staff & tenants cycle together.

Tenants are taking up cycling at levels that suit themselves and their lifestyles – been included – mixing supported with general needs tenants. OYB has helped supported housing tenants set realistic & achievable personal goals as part of their own resettlement/move on plans.
“ON YER BIKE” OYB relies on good will and in kind help
Impacts own recycling service that is part of its Community Investment Team supports OYB through the donation of recycled bicycles that we use for rides & to give to participants who don’t have a bike. Corporate partners like Center parcs donate their own bicycles to help build a fleet of bicycles that now include tricycles, tandems & specialised bicycles.
“ON YER BIKE” PUBLICITY & PROMOTION
The minutes of the meetings & feedback from rides & events are communicated in a way that is easy & attractive for members and prospective new tenants to read & understand. This approach has been crucial, in encouraging new members – by illustrating that everyone no matter whom they are, where they come from, shape, size ability or disability can cycle together.
