Coach Filkovski begins fifth season as head coach

eff Filkovski (Fil-kow-ski) begins his fifth year as the head football coach at Marietta College in 2012. In his first three years, Filkovski has coached 18 Pioneers to All-Ohio Athletic Conference honors and one to All-Region recognition while laying the foundation for his tenure at Marietta. Last season, the Pioneers featured one of the OAC’s top passing attacks and four key members of that attack were named all-conferene. Senior quarterback Andrew Keller, senior wide receiver Chad Walker and sophomore wide receiver Kirby Harris were named second team All-OAC, while sophomore wide receiver Tannon Roberts was honorable mention. Also earning honorable mention was senior linebacker Dan Starr. In 2010, senior Adam Tate earned both All-Ohio second team and All-OAC first team honors. Seniors Cameron Kiger and Cory Kriechbaum received All-OAC second team recognition, while sophomore Gaston Hayes and Andrew Keller were given All-OAC honorable mention. In 2009, senior Lamar Hunter was named All-Region second team and All-OAC first team. In addition, junior Adam Tate and senior George Frisch received All-OAC second team honors while junior Cameron Kiger and sophomore Cody Andrews earned All-OAC honorable mention. In 2008, senior Grant Cowell picked up All-OAC second team honors, while juniors Lamar Hunter and Clinton Thompson both received All-OAC honorable mention. Filkovski, who has coached at both the collegiate and professional level, was the offensive coordinator at Heidelberg University

in 2007. The Student Princes’ offense ranked among the top five in the league in nine different offensive categories. As a result, Filkovski was named the 2007 Ohio Athletic Conference co-Assistant Coach of the Year. Before joining Heidelberg, Filkovski was the offensive coordinator for the Cologne Centurions of NFL Europe. The Centurions had the second-ranked offense in the league and finished 6-4. He began his coaching career as a quarterback coach/ recruiting coordinator at the College of Holy Cross from 199295. Filkovski also spent one season as the quarterback coach at Thomas More College and four years in the same role at the University of Cincinnati. During his time at Cincinnati, the Bearcat squad earned the 2002 Conference USA title. He started at Cincinnati as a graduate assistant in 1996 and was elevated to tight ends coach and recruiting coordinator in 1998. Filkovski had an outstanding career as a quarterback at Allegheny (Pa.) College, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology. In 1990, while being named the Football Gazette Division III Offensive Player of the Year and the Associated Press Little All-American Quarterback, Filkovski led the Gators to a 130-1 record and the NCAA Division III National Championship. The Pittsburgh native was also a prep standout in football and baseball at Penn-Trafford. Filkovski and his wife Stacy live in Marietta with their daughters Avrey and Ariel and son Jack.
