I am a 5th year student pursuing a Bachelor of Landscape Architecture at Iowa State University. I enjoy traveling and I love learning about different cultures. As a Ugandan who has had the opportunity to live in both Switzerland and USA, I am extremely grateful to the exposure of African culture, European culture and American culture. No matter where you are, cities bestow different opportunities that allow for all sorts of exploration and

REVIVAL MEMORIAL PARK: Phytoremediation By Mariam Were, Hannah Becker, Shibani Debnath and Cassandra Schilling
A redesign of the Agriculture Street Landfill from a toxic living space into an unconscious recreational space. It has an environmental focus on site remediation through phytoremediation, introducing bacteria and fungi, geotextiles, and lowland plant remediation. Throughout the site you will find a community center, an open-air pavilion inspired by the classic shotgun house, an art deck with lower viewing, resting areas, and a raised lookout tower to enjoy surrounding view-sheds.

RONALD MCDONALD HOUSE: Therapeutic Garden DES MOINES, IA
This therapeutic garden design serves as a temporary escape from the stress that families may have during their stay. There are various paths throughout the garden that the residents can use for strolls. The different plants all over the garden help create a sense of place, shade and privacy in different locations. Residents can also explore herbaceous plants that have distinct scent and can be used as a source of medicine. There is a wooden fence around the garden that also acts as a source of security and privacy. There are substantially two dominant resting places in the garden; one being a playground for the children and the other being a seating area with movable seating. MASTER PLANT SCHEDULE KEY

THE FAIRGROUND NEIGHBOURHOOD: Gateway Entrance By Mariam Were and Sujing May
The design revolves around the concept of the Double Ferris wheel located at the midway, and is one of the spectacles of the Iowa State Fair. It involves many vibrant colours that are brought out through the use of vegetation and blooming, especially during the 11 days of the Iowa State Fair. In addition, the design also incorporates a free lawn space and a plaza that are spacious and can be used for recreation, meetings, and community events.
