CHAMPAGNE RECEPTION Post-performance Woodlands by TD A toast to Philadelphia’s finest: honoring our essential workers

Honorees This year, the Mann honors outstanding Philadelphians who went above and beyond to help our community during the COVID-19 pandemic.

ED SATELL: VISIONARY LEADERSHIP IN TIME OF CRISIS, FOUNDER OF THE SATELL INSTITUTE Ed Satell is a successful entrepreneur, self-made businessperson, and philanthropist. He believes in leading a meaningful life, modeling and teaching “Think we, not just Me.” Five years ago, Ed founded and fully endowed the nonprofit, independent, nonpartisan Satell Institute, A Think and Do Tank Dedicated to Corporate Social Responsibility™. At the height of the pandemic, Ed donated $1,000,000 personally to fund the Satell institute Million Dollar Match Opportunity to assist nonprofits in their unique time of stress. He recognized the devastating effect of the pandemic shutdown on the Institute’s Nonprofit Affiliates and wanted to create a lifeline. Stimulated by Ed’s leadership, Member CEOs from across a broad segment of the region’s top corporations quickly came together to donate nearly $2 million, in matches of $10,000 each. Together this added up to $3 million. These matches supported nonprofits and their critical missions so negatively impacted by COVID 19. The Satell Million Dollar Match was a huge success, demonstrating real leadership in time of crisis.

DR. ALA STANFORD: VISIONARY ACTION IN TIME OF CRISIS, FOUNDER OF THE BLACK DOCTORS

OF COVID-19 CONSORTIUM

Dr. Ala Stanford is a physician and activist who demonstrated care for our community from the earliest days of the COVID-19 crisis and through Philadelphia’s vaccination roll-out. Dr. Stanford made personal sacrifices in the interest of Philadelphia’s African American communities that were being disproportionately affected, yet underserved, in the crisis. In mid-April of 2020, Dr. Stanford gathered her medical colleagues to launch an independent COVID-19 testing effort, formally named the Black Doctors of COVID-19 Consortium. The Mann is incredibly grateful for Dr. Stanford’s efforts which aided the Mann’s friends and neighbors in our Parkside neighborhood, where the Mann focuses many education and community engagement initiatives.

PECO: VISIONARY COMMUNITY SUPPORT IN TIME OF CRISIS Headquartered in Philadelphia, PECO, is Pennsylvania’s largest electric and natural gas utility. The Mann is pleased to honor PECO at our 2021 Party in the Park for exemplary corporate social responsibility. In response to the financial hardships caused by COVID-19, PECO offered services such as crisis support for small businesses, financial assistance programs, and due date extensions. The Mann is proud to honor PECO for its commitment to helping customers, communities, and nonprofit partners like the Mann, throughout the COVID-19 pandemic.
