Shibori is a Japanese tie-dying technique and the more time we spent diving deeper into Shibori the more we became inspired with translating it the Maloja way. During this process of exploration it became clear to us that there was a deeper story to tell. We decided to bridge the gap between Japan and the European Alps to create “The Alpan Way”.

Je länger wir uns mit traditionellen japanischen Handarbeitstechniken beschäftigten, umso mehr interessante Themen taten sich auf. Und umso klarer wurde, dass wir Japan und den Alpenraum verbinden möchten – mit „The Alpan Way“.

From hand made European oak leaf patterns to the traditional Alpine dirndl finished with a Japanese standing collar, we have found common ground between Alpine and Japanese styling. We invite you to explore more of “The Alpan Way” throughout our Lookbook.

The Spring / Summer 2018 collection has us combining traditional Japanese motifs such as waves, blossoms and dragonflies with Alpine flowers. You will find a variety of loose fitting, comfortable, dresses and pants inspired by Japanese fashion.

In der Kollektion Frühling/Sommer 2018 kombinieren wir in den Drucken typisch japanische Motive wie Wellen, Blüten und Libellen mit alpinen Blumen. Es gibt vom eher weiten, gemütlichen Kleidungsstil der Japaner inspirierte Kleider und Hosen. Aus einem selbst geschnitzten Linolschnitt entstand ein Motiv mit Eichenblättern. Das traditionelle alpine Waschdirndl wurde um einen klassischen japanischen Stehkragen ergänzt.

Made from fine Nylon fibres Moon Stretch 2.5 Layer is a very lightweight, elastic, waterproof and breathable fabric. With a 10.000 mm water column and a breathability of 5.000 g/m2/24 h we were able to create a product that is not only extremely lightweight and 100 % waterproof, but also packs down small for times when space is a precious commodity. The addition of a DWR finish is the first line of defense against dirt and water, further allowing the membrane to function at its best.

LEGEND & LIBERTY S.A.T. CHAMOIS Die S.A.T. Sitzpolster wurden gemeinsam mit unserem italienischen Produzenten und dem Maloja Pushbikers Profi-Rennradteam weiterentwickelt. Das exklusive Shock Absorbing System bietet maximalen Schutz und nimmt 90 % der Aufprallenergie, während gleichzeitig Vibrationen reduziert werden. Zusätzlich zu den Polsterungen im Beckenbereich ist jetzt auch der Schambeinbereich mit S.A.T. ausgestattet. Auch wurde die Konstruktion des Polsters grundlegend verändert: Die Oberseite ist flacher, was zu weniger Reibung auf der Haut führt. Zudem wurde die Polsterung auf der Unterseite neu aufgebaut.  Das Sitzpolster ist bi-elastisch, nahtlos, antibakteriell und bietet maximalen Komfort auch auf langen Strecken. Eine neue, feinere Lochung sorgt für bestes Luft- und Feuchtigkeitsmanagement. Der Drytex Oberstoff ist angenehm weich, schnelltrocknend und verfügt über eine hohe Atmungsaktivität. The S.A.T. chamois continues with further improvements jointly developed with our Italian producer and the Maloja Pushbikers track and road team. The exclusive Shock Absorbing System provides maximum protection and retains 90 % of the impact energy, whilst reducing vibrations. In addition to the padding in the pelvic area, the pubic bone area was also equipped with S.A.T. The overall pad construction has fundamentally changed with the topside becoming flatter to reduce skin friction. The padding on bottom side has also been reconstructed. It is bi-elastic, seamless, and antibacterial, which offers maximum comfort even on long tours. Additionally increased fine perforation provides excellent air and moisture management. The Drytex outer fabric is comfortable, soft, fast-drying and is highly breathable.

Zugleich minimieren Aero Mesh-Einsätze im Schulter- und Armbereich den Luftwiderstand. Neben dem weiterentwickelten Race-Trikot beinhaltet die Serie einen verbesserten Einteiler, ein überarbeitetes Longsleeve, ein Windstopper-Trikot sowie jeweils passende Armlinge und Beinlinge. After years of development inspiration from our road bike team it was finally time to harness the experience and knowledge gained and develop a race specific road cycling line. The jersey and onepiece suit are ergonomically designed to form with the body when in the racing position and through the use of technical materials, optimization of aerodynamics is achieved. Furthermore the golf ball-like surface of Aero Mesh material is inserted in the shoulders and through the arm to benefit in reducing air resistance. KIMONO Übersetzt bedeutet Kimono „Anziehsache“ – deshalb bezog sich das Wort ursprünglich auf alle Arten von Kleidungsstücken. Heute verbindet man mit dem Kimono ein langes, fließendes Gewand mit breitem Gürtel und weiten Ärmeln. Wir haben diese wesentlichen Elemente auf ein Wickelkleid übertragen und mit Stoffen mit alpinen floralen Mustern kombiniert. Reinschlüpfen. Zubinden. Wohlfühlen. Einfacher geht anziehen nicht. Translated literally, ”Kimono“ is “a type of garment” and therefore this word was originally used to describe various types of garments. Today, we think of a Kimono as a long, flowing robe with a broad belt and wide sleeves. We have transferred these elements to a wrap dress in fabrics with alpine and floral patterns. Slip on, tie up and feel good – getting dressed has never been easier.

Water Repellent Windproof

SASHIKO Ursprünglich diente Sashiko dazu, dünn gewordene oder schadhafte Stoffe so zu reparieren, dass sie nicht weiter aufreißen können. Der dabei verwendete Vorstich ist so einfach, dass ihn in Japan schon kleine Kinder im Kindergarten lernen. Im Laufe der Zeit wurde aus der Reparaturtechnik eine eigenständige Verzierungsform für Stoffe. Heute gibt es zahlreiche geometrische Motive, die meist wiederholend aufgestickt werden. Bei unserem Mantel haben wir ein einfaches Stichbild nachgeahmt und in tonalem Garn zur Oberstofffarbe eingestickt. Den handgemachten Charakter erhält es durch unterschiedliche Stichlängen.

The “Sashiko” stitching technique was originally used to repair well-worn or even damaged fabrics so that they would not tear any further. The stitch used is so easy that in Japan, even children in kindergarten learn how to use it. As time passed, this mending technique has become a way of embellishing fabrics, which lead to a variety of geometric motifs that are embroidered in a repetitive fashion. For our coat, we copy a simple stitch and use yarn in tonal colors. Using different stitch lengths creates the handmade character of Sashiko.

ECO WASH

Die Spacer Technologie ist die nächste Generation der Wärmeisolierung. Durch die Luftkammer-Konstruktion wird ein optimales Verhältnis von Wärmerückhalt und hoher Atmungsaktivität erreicht. Spezielle Fasern verleihen diesem hochfunktionellen Material einen sehr modernen und modischen Look.

Eco Wash ist eine umweltfreundliche Waschmethode, bei der Jeans einen „Vintage Look“ erhalten. Gegenüber herkömmlichen Verfahren reduziert sich der Wasserverbrauch bei Eco Wash um 86 % und der Stromverbrauch um 55 %. Außerdem wird komplett auf Chemikalien verzichtet. Eco wash is an environmentally friendly washing method for jeans and it is used to achieve a “Vintage Look”. There are great environmental advantages to this technique compared to the conventional washing method, as there is no chemical usage in the process, water consumption is reduced by 86 % and electricity consumption is reduced by 55 %.

Spacer technology represents the next generation of insulation. Due to the construction consisting of air pockets, a perfect ratio of heat retention and high breathability is achieved. The use of special fibres creates a highly functional material with a very modern and fashionable look.

DIRNDL Für die Kollektion „The Alpan Way“ haben wir das traditionelle alpine Waschdirndl um einen klassischen japanischen Stehkragen ergänzt. Das hochgeschlossene Dirndl aus Baumwolle gibt es in vier Farbvarianten mit unterschiedlichen alpinen Blumenmustern und japanisch inspiriertem Alpan Sky Druck. Es kann bunt mit den jeweiligen Schürzen kombiniert oder – ohne Schürze – nur mit einem schmalen Gürtel als Sommerkleid getragen werden.

The high-necked cotton dirndl is available in four different color schemes with varied alpine flower patterns and Japanese style prints. WIPALLA Seit wir 2013 für die Kollektion „Pachamama“ in Südamerika unterwegs waren, sind wir mit dem bolivianischen Sozialprojekt „Wipalla“ verbunden. Für die Kollektion „The Alpan Way“ haben wir die Frauenstrickgruppe des Projekts mit einem Poncho mit Lochmuster beauftragt. Damit können die Frauen zum Familieneinkommen beitragen – und wir uns in feinste, handgestrickte Alpakawolle kuscheln. We work closely wit the Bolivian charity project “Wipalla”. Our cooperation with Wipalla started on our trip to South America where we photographed our “Pachamama” collection. For “The Alpan Way”, we are cooperating with a group of women who knit our Ponchos, thus making the garment production a win-win-situation. The women are able to earn some extra money for their families while we get to snuggle up in the finest Alpaca wool.

Wer bei Bundfalten an Opa-Hosen denkt, liegt komplett falsch. Viel mehr sollte das Wörtchen „bequem“ mit ihnen assoziiert werden. Inspiriert vom eher weiten, gemütlichen Kleidungsstil der Japaner haben wir eine locker fallende, verkürzte Hose mit leicht ausgewaschenem Look entworfen, die noch dazu elastisch ist. Wir sind uns sicher: Die Männer werden dieses Wohlfühlteil lieben. Gerade wegen der Bundfalten. Who recalls grandpa’s high waist cut pants and thinking they were not fashionable? Rather than fashionable the correct connotation is “comfortable”. We have taken cues from grandpa and Japanese styling to design pants that are wide, comfortable, combined with a washed out look and stretch material. The mixture of style, comfort and a finished pleat look is a must have for every guys wardrobe.

EDDY MERCKX Die Ziellinie als Erster zu überqueren, ist immer ein magischer Moment. Noch dazu, wenn man eines der traditionsreichsten Radrennen gewonnen hat. Was in Eddy Merckx vorging, als er 1972 zum fünften Mal Mailand – San Remo für sich entscheiden konnte, wissen wir nicht. Aber den Moment teilen wir gerne mit ihm. So gerne, dass wir ihn speziell für einen T-Shirt-Druck von unserer Designerin Anne-Sophie aquarellieren ließen. Crossing the finish line first is a magic moment, particularly if you are about to win one of the most iconic races of all times. We have no clue how Eddie Merckx felt winning Milan-San Remo for the fifth time in 1972, but we would love to share this moment with you. As a tribute to Eddie’s historical moment, our designer Anne-Sophie painted him in watercolors and will be seen in a T-Shirt print.
