It‘s the peak of summer, but the high treetops of the forest keep the heat comfortably away. A single trail winds through the closely grown tree trunks, flowing up and down and in curves - the perfect mixture of physical appeal and pure nature enjoyment. Undergrowth, branches and clearances, plains and soft hills follow each other in perfect rhythm. A mountain brook runs alongside the way, goes underground for a couple meters or even kilometers at a time, then suddenly surfaces again, and cools the air. Again and again you catch yourself imagining sinking your hands and arms into the water, up to your elbows and digging your toes into the moss cushioned ground. Especially though, you catch yourself wishing this moment would last forever. You want to ride towards infinity. „You can‘t tell how good a trail is until you actually ride it.“ Somehow this phrase is the essence of all nature experiences, isn`t it? So, what are you waiting for? Go outdoors and have fun with our new collection.
We went to Norway to shoot the summer collection. Things there are “endless”, especially the daytime – light from 3 in the morning to 11 at night. Whereas, it needs to be added that light does not necessarily mean sunshine. Apparently every little fjord has its own climate, and the weather forecasts is never local enough. We soon realized the best strategy was to set the alarm to 3 a.m. (better be on the safe side), check the sky, and, depending on what it said to us, to get up and start the day, or to crawl right back into the sleeping bag and hibernate some more. We covered over 4.800 km: Lysebotn was our first stop. Najette and her son Elias warmly welcomed us, and we shared a bed & breakfast cottage with other basejumpers. If the closest store is an hour away you soon learn to manage for yourself. Is that why Gunther tried an eskimo roll in an open kayak in Lysebotn Fjord? Anyway, he stayed under longer than once around really takes. Our journey led us on to one of the best known landmarks in Norway – Preikestolen Rock. To sleep there outdoors, under the sky and to see the sun going up over the fjord is impossible to describe in words – but you can check the pictures in our catalogue. Maybe you’ll understand what made us speechless. Next stop: Vøringfossen waterfall and the wonderful Haddangervidda plateau. Should have been the perfect backdrop for pictures – but bare-legged cross country photo shooting at 3degrees Celsius, a nasty East wind, and remains of winter snow on the ground was not exactly an enjoyment, and was a challenge even for the tough guys. Our last stop was the Bikepark in Hafjell and the surroundings of Lillehammer. After so many days in the spectacular quiet of nature, the last leg of our journey felt like time-traveling back into civilization: places to shop, hot water, a sauna, dishwasher. Our fully equipped log cabin was our passage back home. The unbelievable Whistler-Levels in the bike park were a true freeriding experience. Too bad the park was only open on weekends. But, what would a malojan excursion be without improvisation? We shuttled ourselves up to the peak, tested our bus for its ability to tackle severe gradients, and challenged the wear and tear of a low-riding Volvo. Still, the true highlight was a she-moose, standing at the highest point of the mountain pass at four in the morning. She looked as if she had been waiting around there just for us to finally show up. Was she really the farewell committee? In any event, it wasn’t easy to leave Norway. The people we met there were unbelievably friendly, hospitable, warmhearted and helpful. På gjensyn. Your malojans
Es ist Hochsommer aber der Wald schirmt mit seinen Baumkronen angenehm die Hitze ab. Durch die dichten Baumbestände schlängelt sich ein Singletrail, kurvig, hügelig, flowig - die vollkommene Mischung aus sportlichem Anreiz und reinstem Landschaftsgenuss. Dickicht, Gehölz und Waldlichtungen, Ebenen und sanfte Hügel folgen in perfektem Wechsel aufeinander. Ein Gebirgsbach begleitet die Strecke, wird für Meter und Kilometer unterirdisch, tritt dann wieder sprudelnd zutage und sorgt für angenehme Kühle. Immer wieder ertappt man sich bei dem Wunsch, mit den Händen bis zu den Ellbogen in das glasklare Wasser zu tauchen und die Zehen ins saftige Moos zu graben. Vor allem aber ertappt man sich bei dem Gedanken, dass dieser Moment bitte nie enden möge. Es könnte ewig so weitergehen: Ein Stück weit der Unendlichkeit entgegenradeln. „You can´t tell how good a trail is until you actually ride it.“ Irgendwie trifft dieser Satz doch auf alle Naturerlebnisse zu, oder? Also, worauf wartet Ihr noch? Raus in die Natur und viel Freude mit der neuen Kollektion. Wir haben uns für das Sommershooting nach Norwegen begeben. Dort sind vor allem die Tage „endless“ – Licht von 3 Uhr morgens bis 11 Uhr abends. Wobei Licht nicht zwingend Sonnenschein bedeutet, das müssen wir leider geraderücken. Weil irgendwie jede Fjordbucht ihre eigene Klimazone hat, konnten wir die Wettervorhersagen nur als Tendenz auswerten und stellten daher die Wecker (sicher ist sicher) auf 3 Uhr, wagten einen Blick auf den Himmel und standen dann entweder richtig auf, oder begaben uns wieder in die Schlafsäcke. Über 4.800 km haben wir zurückgelegt: Lysebotn war die erste Station. Bei Najette und ihrem Sohn ... ... Elias wurden wir herzlich aufgenommen und wohnten ... ... gemeinsam mit Basejumpern in einer Bed & Break-fast Hütte. Wo die ... ... nächste Einkaufsmöglichkeit über eine Stunde entfernt liegt, übt man sich in Selbstverpflegung.
Ob unser Gunther deswegen im Fjord von Lysebotn eine Eskimo-Rolle im offenen Kajak probiert hat? Mit dem Kopf blieb er jedenfalls länger unten, als es eine Kreisbewegung eigentlich erfordert. Weiter führte unser Weg zu einem der Wahrzeichen Norwegens – dem Preikestolen Fels. Dort unter freiem Himmel zu übernachten und den Sonnenaufgang über dem Fjord zu erleben, kann kaum in Worte gefasst werden – in Fotos aber, und die seht Ihr ja im Katalog. Nächste Tourstation: der Wasserfall von Vøringsfossen und die wunderbare Haddangervidda Hochebene. Eigentlich eine perfekte Kulisse – aber CrossCountry-Fotos bei 3 Grad Ostwind und letzten Schneeresten mit kurzen Hosen zu fotografieren war dann auch für Hartgesottene eine Herausforderung. Letzte Station war der Bike Park in Hafjell und die Gegend um Lillehammer. Nach vielen Tagen herrlicher Einsamkeit in der Natur, fühlte sich der letzte Reiseabschnitt wie eine Zeitreise zurück in die Zivilisation an: Einkaufsmöglichkeiten, warmes Wasser, Sauna, Spülmaschine. Ein schönes Blockhaus wurde unser Akklimatisationsort. Im Bikerpark mit unglaublichem WhistlerNiveau sammelten wir tollste Freeride -Eindrücke. Leider war der Park nur am Wochenende geöffnet. Aber was wäre ein Maloja-Trip ohne Improvisation? Und so shuttelten wir uns selbst zur Spitze hoch, testeten die Steigungsfähigkeit unseres Sprinters und die Strapazierfähigkeit eines tiefergelegten Volvobodens. Das eigentliche Highlight aber war eine Elchkuh, die um 4 Uhr morgens am Straßenrad der Pass-Straße nach Hafjelltoppen stand und wir uns des Eindrucks nicht verwehren konnten, dass sie da auf uns wartete. Vielleicht hat sie unser Abschiedskomitee verkörpert? Schwer fiel er uns jedenfalls, der Abschied aus Norwegen und von seinen Einwohnern, die wir als unglaublich gastfreundlich, herzlich und hilfsbereit kennen lernen durften. På gjensyn. Eure maloja‘s 1
