A diamond in the harbour at no 1 location

ffering stunning views across Lyttelton Harbour, and with a totally relaxing ambience, this light, airy, two-level home in Diamond Harbour is the perfect retreat from the bustle of the city rebuild. The present owners, who have thoroughly enjoyed living there for over 20 years, have renovated and upgraded the home to a very high standard, introducing a fresh contemporary style, while at the same time retaining the character of its 1970s’ architectural design. The lower level comprises the living areas – a completely renovated kitchen, a separate dining room and a spacious lounge/living area that both open onto a sun-drenched deck. Both the dining and living rooms and, of course, the deck face the harbour and the views are simply superb. You can watch activities in the port, ships as they sail down the harbour, yachts scudding across the sparkling waves, or simply kick back and enjoy the peace and privacy of the environment, where bird calls from wood pigeons and bellbirds add to the special ambience. Both the living and dining rooms have brand-new carpet, while a wood-burner in the dining room keeps the home cosy in winter, boosted by an electric heating system in the living room. Upstairs, the fresh, cool tones of the master bedroom create a restful mood. It also features a large, harbour-facing window. When you open the blind in the morning, the sheer splendour of that view will set you up for the day.

Also on this level are another double bedroom, the bathroom and a second separate toilet. The fully renovated, tiled bathroom features a glass shower cabinet, top-of-the-range fittings and Italian marble basin. Underfloor heating in all tiled areas is an added bonus. A covered walkway from the upper level connects the garage to the house. Back downstairs, outside and down a short pathway is a basement-level room that could be transformed into anything you wish – a home office, hobby room, art studio, or even a third bedroom. The other notable feature of this lovely property is the garden. A woodland sanctuary, it features an abundance of shrubs and plants, including numerous rhododendrons and roses, criss-crossed by meandering pathways, one of which leads directly to the

beach below. If you want to venture further afield, you can step on to the cliff path for a world-class harbour walk. The nearby Diamond Harbour village offers two excellent cafes, a store, as well as sporting and community facilities. Diamond Harbour also has a primary school and church. Access to Lyttelton is provided by the regular ferry service, with the wharf a 10-minute walk or short drive away. From Lyttelton, buses connect to Christchurch City. Otherwise, you can take the scenic drive to arrive in the city either via the Lyttelton tunnel or through Cashmere. Located at 1 Whero Avenue Diamond Harbour, the property has an RV of $614,000, with price by negotiation. The land is greenzoned.
