Vocalists, buy her DVD and save your cords from Total Destruction. Asia has returned! Rejoice! The Popular Gothic Pin-Up model has returned to MagX to give you guys some info on how to make your honey love you more (or hate you less) on this upcoming Valentines Day! Or any day for that matter. We have plenty more for you inside, Like some huge Battle of the Bands/Festivals coming your way this month!

Cigg Burns: Asia Unwrapped!!! It’s Christmas time and Mag-X has given it’s readers the ultimate present under the tree, the one true reason mistletoe was invented, One more time the one, the only, Asia DeVinyl. There is nothing more satisfying while holiday shopping than finding the perfect gift. You know, THE gift, the one that will make your Love’s eyes light up! But there is nothing more frustrating while holiday shopping than finding the perfect gift, that turns out to be WAY too expensive. Can you close your eyes and envision her throwing her arms around your neck in wild excitement, only to open your eyes and find yourself staring into an unblinking and unamused realistic budget? Well, dont worry! I have come up with a list that is going to save your ass! Diamonds: ONE more

diamond store commercial, and you’re going to scream, right? All of those suburban husbands flipping open a ribboned velvet box to his wife’s calm delight. Yes, it would be nice to give diamonds this Christmas. And if you are able to do so, I have to suggest The ULTIMATE jewelry store: Tiffany’s! If your woman is anything like me, (and I hope she is) she has seen the classic Audrey Hepburn film “Breakfast At Tiffany’s” a dozen times, and knows that a diamond is MORE than a diamond if it comes from Tiffany’s! But as if diamonds werent expensive enough already, shopping at places like Tiffany’s and Cartier will only give you less, but cost you more. So why not throw all of that out of the window, and get her something that REALLY sparkles? My favorite jewelry store in the whole world is Ron’s Rhinestones! (www.ronsrhinestones.

com) From glamorous and classy to gaudy and chintzy, they have it all! Overwhelm her with a solid 16 row austrian crystal rhinestone choker, or why not tell her that she is a Queen with a mile-high pageant crown? Make her positively hysterical with a solid rhinestone matching bra and panty set! If you’re woman is anything like me, (and I hope she is) she also knows that diamonds -VSrhinestones is no contest. MORE is MORE! Fur: Santa is real. Does everything he brings have to be, too? No way! Genuine fur, besides being morally and socially irresposible, is ridiculously expensive. ($75,000!!! Are you kidding me?) So lets just skip to the good stuff. I have discovered the BEST fur alternative shop out there! Fabulous Furs (www.fabulousfurs. com) has the widest and most luxurious selection of faux furs Ive have ever seen! There is always something on my wish list from Fabulous Furs! The full length coats are amazing, the hat/scarf/gloves sets are divine, and the stoles are truly stunning. So go ahead, immerse her in mink, furl her in fox, lavish her with leopard, or

By: Asia Devinyl

spoil her with sable... without sacrificing creature and credit! Corset: My favorite gift! Corsets come in a huge variety of colors, fabrics and styles, yet they all do the same thing. Make women even more irresistible! Now, I’m not talking about the cheap bra hook and flimsy plastic boning style ones you will find at most lingerie shops, but a real corset is worth spending the

extra for! By whittling in the waist, accentuating the curve of the hips, and pushing the cleavage to the max, the right corset will flatter your girl’s figure, and boost your chances of receiving a very merry thank-you indeed! My very favorite corsetry company is Versatile Fashions by Ms. Antoinette. (www. versatilefashions.com) Corsets should be ordered 4-6 inches smaller than the natural

designed some of the most adorable handbags around, with style for miles! They have a pin-striped clutch for your Hot Rod Hottie, supple patent leather for your Gothic Lolita, and luxurious leopard print for your Sophisticated Sweetie! Also check out Pin Up Girl Clothing, (www.pinupgirlclothing.com) they always have darling purses, too. Between those two sites, you just can’t go wrong! waist measurement. Order on their website, or find what you want online, then give Tracy a call at (714) 538-0257 for help with sizing if you’re not sure. And be sure to tell her that Asia sent you! Handbag: In my opinion, the designer handbag market has lost its mind. Why would anyone choose to spend hundreds

(and even thousands!) of dollars on an ugly, oversized bag? It takes more than a brown tweed sack with some designer’s initials embroidered all over it to impress me! How about some style? What about panache? Where’s my “Ooh-la-la?” Well, it’s at Hell’s Belles, that’s where! (www.hbnyc. net) Hell’s Belles Finishing School for Girls has

BOOTS: Open any fashion magazine this season, and you will see that 4 inch heel over-the-knee boots have come back into style in a BIG way! (Hooray!) But walk into any department store, and you will see how pricey they are. (Yikes.) But don’t fret yet! I have found some perfectly priced options, both at the mall, and online! Now I know that most of you hate the mall, but there really isn’t anything to be afraid of! Sales girls are there to help. You don’t know her shoe size? Check the tag on her favorite pair, but keep the receipt, just in case! Online, the most diverse and best priced boot and shoe boutique is How Cool. (www.howcool. com) From sandals to sky high heels, from the popular to the perverse, they have absolutely everything and anything your Sexy Vixen could

want! WATCH: Now this is an easy one! Watches can be found in so many price ranges, and at so many convenient locations, that it hardly seems like I should include it on my list. But the classy gesture of giving a watch as a gift is definitely worth mentioning! Try your local department store, or even your neighborhood Target. Look for something that matches her personality. Fun or elegant, sassy or classy, the price isn’t the point. Giving a watch holds a deeper meaning than diamonds or gold. It means that you care about the person you are giving it to, and that you want them to think of you every time they wear it, and depend on it. Want to make it even more special? Have it engraved! Many malls have

engraving locations, or to save a few bucks, check for a sports trophy shop. Keep it simple, they charge by the letter! So there you have it. You don’t have to spend a fortune this Holiday Season to give your girl everything she needs! Okay, sure... She probably doesn’t “NEED” a tiara, or another pair of boots. But to really make her smile this year, pamper her and lavish her with the unexpected! Make her say “Oh, Honey, you really DO know me!” Just HOW you learned what she really wants, will be our little secret! Happy Shopping! XOXO, ~Asia

w.t.f.i.o? The Simpsons The Simpsons is the longest-running American sitcom, as well as the longest-running American animated program, to date.. Since it debuted on Dec.17,1989, the show has aired 384 episodes in eighteen seasons. The Eighteenth-season finale will be the 400th episode, and the 20th anniversary of The impsons franchise will be celebrated in 2007. A feature-length movie is currently being produced, to be released on July 27, 2007. YouTube.com has already popped up clips of the unfinished movie that was leaked on the net from someone in the audience. This is one of my personal fav. Shows on TV. The New Season which is taking

9

a great turn towards current politics like in a parody of the U.S. invasion and occupation of Iraq, & “Operation Enduring Occupation” and making references to “weapons of mass disintegration.” And if all that was too subtle, one character, looking over the ruins of Springfield, delivers the final line: “This sure is a lot like Iraq will be.” Side Note:Kiefer Sutherland and Mary Lynn Rajskub voice Jack Bauer and Chloe from 24 in what is planned to be the show’s 400th episode, which airs 05/20/07 I know, it’s gonna be a while. Sit Tight! Catch The Simpsons on Sundays @ 7pm (cst) only on FOX.

Dexter,

is murdering the competion Based on Jeff

Lindsay’s novel “Darkly Dreaming Dexter,” this new crime thriller tells the story of a strange man named Dexter Morgan. Once an abused and abandoned child, Dexter is now a successful forensics pathologist... but lurking just beneath his charismatic personality is a terrible truth. Dexter has corralled his innate homicidal urges into a closely guarded second career: He hunts down and brutally murders those vicious criminals who

have managed to avoid the clutches of the law. Showtime has ordered a second season of the crime drama, which stars Six Feet Under’s Michael C. Hall in the title role as a Miami police forensics expert who also happens to be a Serial Killer’s Serial Killer, (if that makes sense). On Nov 2nd, Showtime renewed the series for a 2nd season. It is speculated that the story arc for this series will be based on the second book in the

Dexter series, Dearly Devoted Dexter. The new season of twelve hour-long episodes will begin production in the spring and air next summer, but fans can enjoy the Re-runs of the Killer 1st Season this Winter on Showtime or On-Demand where available. Dexter earned an average of 2 million weekly viewers. Catch Dexter on Sundays @ 9pm (cst) Only on Showtime.

The Kain Nation: EVERYTHING SUCKS!

Everyone’s got an opinion some are valid some are absurd but none the less we all have ‘em. So read up and see what Kain has

10

to see about the current state of music. If you haven’t noticed lately rock music has all become the same.

It’s all going down the drain. Korn sold out and took $25 million upfront to do two more albums(one of which has been released). Are these guys cashing in before it’s over for them? You’ve got the new Tool that is medicore for Tool in my opinion. Then you have posers like Black Stone Cherry who do Southern rock and they’re not even southern. You’ve got bands doing covers like crazy, Disturbed comes to mind. Singing with your mouth was cool the first time David. Don’t keep doing that crap, the cover rocks without it. Saliva’s first single off their new disc is effing retarded. Absolutely retarded. “Please check and see if you’re still breathing.” Who the hell wrote that crap for you? The rest of the album is definately going to suck if that is your big release off the disc. Then they keep pumping out this shit for the emo kids. It keeps coming and coming and it all sucks. It just sucks. The STP/Filter merger absolutely sucks. If you just look at their crappy logo. Both bands kicked ass alone but once they formed Army Of Anyone it all went down hill. There is some really good rock out there right now but it’s not like it

was. Most of it right now though is crap. The new Incubus and Red Hot Chili Peppers is good as always but what do you expect. Those guys are never going to spew out crap. I’m really digging on all of the new Stone Sour. Always loved those guys... missed them for a while and the new disc will rip you a new oriface. Wolfmother is one of my big favorites as well. It always surprises me how Austrailian artists talk like their in The Outback barbequeing Koala bears and when they rock out they lose their accent. Plus these guys have that classic vibe and get it. The Colors is effin rocking too. Maybe it’s just because I’m a big Jane’s Addic-

tion fan but I’m digging it, it doesn’t sound like everything else out there. It all sounds the same to me anymore and not a lot catches my attention. The new Godsmack though... that rocks! -Kain

L

eo Krayola recently had a chat with Mower about everything you need to know and also some info on their stop in the RGV! So kick back and enjoy another X-Clusive for Mag-X.

Mag-X: What’s with the name? Mower: We wanted a named that sounded like Slayer! Seriously, it

11

came from watching films where one army runs right over another. it conjures up a vision of massive energy that just cuts down everything in the way. Mag-X: I know you’re on Tour right now with Rickets. How’s that going? Any interesting stories from the road? Mower: We’re one show deep into the tour. We just played Arizona last night. It is going as expected.

Everyone is hungover. Arizona is great because the Clubs are full of girls in nothing but underwear pimping tshirt companies, drinks, etc. We had a couple girls join us onstage in their thongs. It’s fun but I always worry we’re going to trample one of these girls while we’re doing our thing. I have to give them credit. They try to dance to some heavy shit. You know it’s no disco up there.

Mag-X: I saw the video to “Road Rage” on Headbanger’s Ball a while back, any idea what the fans can expect for the next video? Mower: We’re kicking around ideas for the track “American Psycho” which is influenced by the Brett Easton Ellis book. The obvious trail would be to do a bloody violent homage to the novel and movie, but we’ll probably go another

way with it. I’m looking forward to shooting another one, Whatever song we decide to go with. Mag-X: You worked with Mikey Doling (exSnot/Soulfly Guitarist) on this record. How did you come to meet him and what is your favorite memory from working with him? Mower: Chris and Dom were in a band in Colorado that had the pleasure of opening for

“ I think what seperates us, is that a lot of fans are starting to relate to us and that would be because of effort and the fact that we are music fans first. “

Driver XXIII

Mag-X: What’s Up in the Future for Mower?

Abyss

Mag-X: This is the “Plug-Plug” part of the interview, Anything you’d like to Say or plug to the Kids in South Texas & The world reading online at MagXonline.com?

Mag-X: What is the best and worst aspects of touring as a band your size?

Mower: It’s not a big production. We want to put on a mind-blowing show like Gwar, Kiss, Led Zeppelin and so on. We want to blow things up, shoot flames and drown people in blood too! Come on, help us get to that level people, we won’t let you down. Mag-X: What elevates Mower over the rest of the hard rock bands out there? Mower: I think what seperates us is that a lot of fans are starting to relate to us and that would be because of

effort and the fact that we are music fans first. I think that’s why a lot of fans are starting to relate to us. We know

Driving the Nails

what we want from a live show or CD and we turnaround and try to put that out there.

Mower: More music and touring! We’re happy to be out again, it feels great waking people up to what we’re doing. The live show is about throwing down hard with a lot of energy and judging from the response people are not used to seeing that much anymore.

Snot. After Lynn passed away, Mikey went on to join Soulfly. We opened a show for Soulfly in New York and those guys got reacquainted And we all went out drinking all night and managed to stay in touch. We’ve had a lot of great times with Mikey, from partying to the recording process. He’s a cool head and he just started Gridiron Records and Has a great new band called Invitro that are both going to kick ass.

DON’T MISS THIS!!!

Mower: We’re fortunate because we’ve got great sponsors. In alphabetical order we roll with: Jagermeister, Lost, No Fear, Seedless, Sik World,

LIVE! DECEMBER 18TH MINT LOUNGE 131 E. Nolana MCALLEN, TX 78501 SRH and we’re sorting out equipment endorsements now. We’re proud to be associated with all of these great companies. Our label, Subarban Noize Records is a good place to start to find our CD’s, Mower and Not For You and the tour info is posted at www.myspace. com/mower. Your readers can find me on AOL, MSN and Yahoo! instant messengers and say what’s up too. My screen name on all three is mowerbrian.

illswitch Engage has done it yet again! As Daylight Dies, the latest release from the highest selling metal-core act out of Massachusetts is simply stunning to say the least. Every aspect of the band and stylings of its members are showcased on the album. With the opening track Daylight Dies you are greated by a big epic introduction into a heavy yet melodic and catchy song. The third track Arms of Sorrow shines the light on Lead Singer Howard Jones’ powerful, soulful voice. Soulful? Yes! I said it his vocals can make you want to incite a riot or make sweet love. Justin Foley (drums) even found a way to make the cowbell metal! On the track Unbroken a huge country fried breakdown is heard incorporating the infamous cowbell. Another huge part of why this album is great is the sound quality everything sounds HUGE! Adam Dutkiewicz the band’s guitarist and long time producer has become one of the best in the industry to record this genre. He’s worked on various albums including All That Remain’s The Fall of Ideals and Underoath’s Define the Great Line. Since then he’s become one of the metal’s most “in demand” producers. All in all this album keeps up with innovation in a genre where more and more bland cookie cutter copies are emerging Killswitch keeps it a style all their own. This album gets 4 cowbells.

Band: Killswitch engage album: as daylight dies (roadrunner) release: 13available now!

again! And so is Freddy with this month’s edition of The Vault, It’s on. Boyz II Men’s II, 1994’s massive heavy-duty deluxe album is a Rhythm and Blues masterpiece, bitches. If you ever thought you were in love growing up in the 90’s, you own this album. If not, you should. Yeah, this album whooped sh*t on the Billboard’s charts. I think I may not be giving the Adagio side due credit by saying it sucks, but we all know what is waiting on the other side, Allegro, the more soulful side of R&B. MMMM, I’ll make love to you. That’s my jam OOOO CHILD! Thanks to this track, at the age of 10, I learned how to make love to a woman without actually making love. Although

the sounds of love making come nowhere near to the beauty of this track... go figure. On bended knee: I think I wanted my girlfriend at the time to break up with me so I could sing her this song and hope that we‘d get back together. I know it would’ve worked because it’s Boyz II Men in ‘94. You might even be able to pull that off now and there’s a good chance that it might work. I’m sure if you’re reading this you’re thinking of someone who has done that, or at least tried. If so, that’s awesome and I’m laughing along with you. If not, that’s why you’re not on my top 8 on MySpace. I really don’t know or care to know what 50 Candles is about but this song just makes me want to say “I want to make love to you.” Water runs dry makes having a shi**y time throughout a relationship sound so pleasant. Yesterday is just beautiful.

The members of Incubus never cease to amaze me nor do they ever let me down. Light Grenades is by far the band’s most amibitious outing yet, an album showcasing their signature sound along with fusing shades of funk and even throwing in a dash of U2 for good measure. With the strong success of the current single Anna Molly the band is poised to ride the wave straight to the top as they do with each release. The album starts off with the slow, moody ballad Quicksand which really sets the tone for the remainder of the record. The outerworldy, melodic, yet funky track Earth to Bella (Part I) sends you into a different stratusphere then quickly wakes you up to remind you that you are still here. Brandon Boyd’s vocal stylings and lyrical content along with the crafty guitar work of Michael Einziger are highlighted through out the album. It is definately what sets the foundation of Incubus’ originality. Light Grenades is not just any other CD. Every album Incubus lets out is quite an experience and is never bland or mundane. For a really good listen for the casual music fan or even the advanced listener Incubus’ Light Grenades is an album you can’t afford to pass up.

Band: Incubus album: Light Grenades (Epic) release: available now!

Melissa Cross: if you want to scream, scream with her! FOR MORE ON MELISSA CROSS AND HER LESSONS CHECK OUT: www.melissa cross.com www.myspace.com/thezenofscreaming and Andrew W.K. and went on to Lamb of God, Shadows Fall, Slipknot, The Bravery, Underoath, Unearth, Trivium, Cradle of Filth, Thursday, All That Remains, Arch Enemy, God Forbid just to name a few, there’s more on the client list, it’s on the websiteMag-X: Why did you feel that it was important to educate people on the zen of screaming?

Readers, we have an-

other special treat for you this month. Melissa Cross, Vocal Technician she’s taught everyone from Killswitch Engage to Trivium and H2O, we’ll be working with her and seeing if we can improve our screaming skills. Keep pickin up issues of MagX for updates Mag-X: What is it that you do exactly? MC: I am a vocal technician. I teach people how to do what they want to do with their voice and not get hurt. Mag-X: To teach someone how to scream

properly seems kind of “out there” how did you end up doing this? MC: During the mid 90s, the underground metal genre was emerging with the lead singers getting blood in their throats during shows and recording sessions. A producer of that genre, which is now not so “underground” was producing bands and the singers were not able to get through a recording project without losing steam. Mag-X: Who are some of your most famous clients? MC: It started out with H2O, Killswitch Engage

MC: Because it is not necessary to work and suffer to rock! These guys were slicing up their throats and needed the 411 so the genre could have some deserved longevity! The “Zen” in Zen of Screaming simply means being in the present with your voice without imitating anyone. It’s not Buddhist doctrine or anything.. Mag-X: Any funny stories while you were in any of your sessions? MC: Randy Blythe (Lamb of God) has a hobby. He collects bullwhips- he is a serious collector. He asked me to help him look for one after one of his lessons.

I took him to some of the basement sex shops in the West Village. He found a really cool one. The lady at the counter smiled at us and said, “Is this for you or for her?” I said, “It’s for both of us. I’m his mother.” She did not laugh we actually freaked out a sexual deviant in New York City!!! Mag-X:: What has been your favorite experience thus far? MC: Working with Corey Taylor in Des Moines, Iowa or reliving Spinal Tap with Dani Filth in a recording studio in an ancient village in the deserted full moon English countryside. Mag-X: Do you get most of your clients through word of mouth? MC: Well, I guess you could say I don’t get business from the Yellow Pages. Mag-X: We saw you recently on Conan O’ Brien, how was that experience? MC: I was nervous until we started the interview and realized

he is as crazy as me and it was all downhill easy from there. Mag-X: What would you like to tell our readers about the The Zen of Screaming? MC: Umm, buy it? You can get it at melissacross.com, Guitar Center and stores everywhere. Seriously, it is good for anyone who uses the voice for a living or wants to. It will give you the basics you need for control, stamina and stretching the envelope creatively, too. Mag-X: Thank you very much for participating Melissa, any last words? MC:: Yeah, watch out for Zen of Screaming II in January 2007. Features Spencer from Underoath, Trevor from Unearth, Matt from Trivium, Angela from Arch Enemy (yes, finally a GIRL), Geoff from Thursday, Phil from All That Remains and more. And thanks to you guys for asking me questions!
