Buhl Mayor Pam McClain ELECTION SEASON IS HERE – VOTE NOVEMBER 7 It is that time of year. The days are shorter, the air is cooler, and the leaves are changing from a beautiful green to golden yellow and brown. It’s a beautiful time of year. Our citizens have been instrumental in their feedback to help us lead the way for years. We have beautiful parks, safe streets and schools, and one of the cleanest and most efficient water and wastewater operations in the state. Your neighbors, family and friends will ask you for advice on who to vote for, and to share how you think Buhl is doing on the issues most important to them. You know Buhl in your own unique way. I get asked these same questions, of course. With the election season upon us, I am taking the opportunity to share with you what I look for in a candidate. To each candidate I offer the following: 1. Talk less, listen more. You will learn more by listening. Buhl’s employees know their jobs better than you. Ask questions during meetings and listen before you think you know how it all works. 2. Trust and be trustworthy. We are growing as a community and there are more and more people moving in from out of state. But we are still a small city. People will figure out quickly if they can count on you; don’t blow it. 3. Do not bring in any preconceived ideas, especially if you have never been to a meeting yourself. 4. Live in gratitude. Be thankful for those around you who work hard, and they do work hard, to make Buhl so special. You are a part of their lives, so appreciate that you get to play a small role in helping shape our story and our legacy. It isn’t all about you. The City Council race: We have two incumbents running, Marla Sisson and Kelly Peterson and they are very involved in the community of Buhl and have been for years. The other four that have thrown their hat into the ring are Menno deRijk, Tim Miner, William Nungeter and Denny O’Brien. There are two council seats open, and voters will select two out of the six candidates running. Please take time to do your due diligence and research on these candidates before you head to the polls. As I have written in previous issues, the City Council exercises the legislative powers of city government, including, but not limited to, adopting the annual City budget, ordinances, and resolutions; and establishing sewer and water rates. There is also a School Board election for District 4.

IDAHO STATE REPRESENTATIVES

We currently serve 4 Voting Districts: 24, 25, 26 and 27 Our 12 senators and representatives can share here information with the Magic Valley as they see fit. Each article starts here and will continue on the website MagicValleyBA.org. ~~~~~~~~~~~~ District 24A Representative Chenele Dixon shares her “Fentanyl Op-Ed” she wrote in July 2023. “In a 2019 survey, one in five Idaho students reported being offered, sold, or given an illegal drug in the past thirty days. Today, our children are increasingly likely to get offered fentanyl. Illegal fentanyl comes in powder and pill form. Recently, two drug busts on Highway 93 near Twin Falls confiscated fifteen pounds of fentanyl. That quantity is enough to kill every man, woman, and child in Idaho, Montana, and Wyoming. Fentanyl deaths are rising in Idaho. Fifty times stronger than heroin and 100 times stronger than morphine, this synthetic opioid plays a growing role in drug overdoses. (see https://www.cdc.gov/stopoverdose/fentanyl/index.html). The most recent Idaho data shows 353 overdose deaths in 2021 with 152 of those deaths connected to fentanyl. We must stop the trafficking of fentanyl in Idaho. We need better education for our families, our schools, and our communities about the dangers of drugs, and increased risks associated with fentanyl. The legislature can support those efforts with legislation that adds fentanyl to the list of the drug trafficking mandatory minimums. During the last session, this proposed legislation failed. Many of the people who testified against these efforts came from other states and ignored that Idaho’s mandatory minimums have made our state very unattractive for the trafficking other illegal drugs.” (continued online: https://wp.me/pecT8b-A3) P30

District 26 Senator Taylor: “We are fortunate to live in Idaho where we enjoy four seasons, fresh air, and blue skies. Idahoans are independent, industrious, and innovative. We are built from a strong work ethic. We help our neighbors when the need is there, and we do so without being asked or asking for anything in return. We are caring. Idaho is a state where our values drive our decisions and our way of life. We cherish a safe place to raise our families. We understand the value of education, and how important that is to the future success of our children. We value our democracy and our freedom to vote, our natural resources and our robust agricultural industry. These are a few examples; there are many more. When elected last year as your State Senator I was given the opportunity to represent Blaine, Jerome, and Lincoln counties to stand in defense of those values. I am concerned legislation will continue to be brought forth in an attempt to alter our way of life and impose differing values.” (continued online: https://wp.me/pecT8b-A5)

History 101—The Great Migration The Roman Empire was brought to its knees and thrust into oblivion & extinction in 410 A.D. Known as the “Great Migrations,” this was brought on by the Roman politicos giving the Germanic Tribes sanctuary and citizenship in Italy. King Alaric, a German and a Roman soldier sacked Rome in 410 A.D. This was the beginning of the end of the Roman Empire. The Germanic Tribes flooded in by the tens of thousands not to be stopped. In reality that was an invasion not a migration. (continued p40)

(con’t from p38) During 2021 border patrol agents apprehended close to 2 million immigrants from 150 different countries, opening our borders to a vast threat of complex issues. From the Covid virus to illegal drugs such as Fentanyl, Meth and Heroin, to human trafficking, every aspect of our Nation’s health, safety and National Security has been and is being impacted! Mark Morgan, former Border Chief said “We have lost control of the Southwest border, there is no end in sight.” As in 410 A.D. America is following historically in the Roman Empire’s footsteps. The Reality is this is an Invasion, not a migration. Bret McKenzie. Sources: History of the World by EH Grombrich; Fall of the Roman Empire by Edward Gibbons; Epoch Times.
