The wellness centres at Messilä and Paju lahti have various offers to pamper the whole family. People come to the Lahti region for relaxa tion and to spend time with their families. Here you can choose the holiday you want – you can enjoy the silence and beauty of nature, go to the theatre or concerts, sample the Vellamo-Menu, take an active holiday, go sightseeing or shopping. Or you can combine your holiday from all of the se in a way that suits you. Finally, a word of warning: you will get hoo ked on Päijät-Häme. So prepare to return here again and again. As the provincial anthem puts it: Even though I’m busy in my life, I always re turn home. Do the same!

B E ST TA P W ATE R I N TH E W O R LD THE WATER IN LAHTI IS UNIQE. The natural filter formed by the terrain of the Salpausselkä ridge purifies the ground water so efficiently that you could more or less drink it straight from the spring. Lahti Aqua supplies their clients with tap water consisting of 100% ground water, which is quite unique for a city. Finnish tap water has been called the best in the world and water filtered through the Salpausselkä ridge can be described as the purest in the entire country. Here, you don’t have to buy bottled water, since you can drink water straight from the tap, or order a jug of tap water in a restaurant and have a taste of the world’s best drinking water. www.lahtiaqua.fi, www.lahti.fi

This year, the Republic of Estonia is celebrating the centenary of its foundation, in honour of which, our international Sibelius Festival is looking to the Baltic states. We will celebrate Estonia’s anniversary year together with the Estonian National Symphony Orchestra (ERSO) and its legendary Sibelius conductor Neeme Järvi.

N ATU R E I S C A LLI N G When was the last time you spent a night camping in a tent, grilled sausages under a lean-to, went river fishing, or tracked migratory birds while enjoying the sunrise? There are several LEAN-TOS in the Lahti regio that are open to anyone who abides by the Fin nish everyman’s rights. All those who use a leanto must ensure that the surroundings stay clean. TAINIONVIRTA is a river in southern Finland. It starts from Lake Jääsjärvi and empties into Lake Päijänne. You can fish with both lures and flyfishing gear in Tainionvirta River. 1. NATURE CONSERVATION AREA OF LAPAKISTO is 230 hectares. There are many places worth seeing in the area. One of the most stunning places is Pitkäjärvenvuori, a hill that ri ses to about 45 meters above Lake Pitkäjärvi. Va rious routes of different lengths in the area are marked on the trees with distinct colours.

LOVELY KELVENNE Kelvenne in the Padasjoki municipality is one of the largest and nicest high islands of Finland. An 8 km long hiking trail runs through the island of Kelvenne and is indicated with blue marks. There are also several campfire sites along the route. THE PIRUNPESÄ canyon is surrounded in places by vertical cliffs of 5–20 metres in height. A nature trail circles the area and provides a view of Lake Vesijärvi. There is a rest stop on the flank of the rocky Pirunpesä canyon. THE KIIKUNLÄHDE natural spring is not only the largest, but also the most beautiful spring in Finland. Its magical turquoise-coloured waters

invite you to stare into them and forget about time. The Kiikunlähde spring is 400 metres long and 100 metres wide. THE LINNAISTENSUO swamp is a protected ombrotrophic raised bog of some 200 hectares. The protected area was formed to save a repre sentative natural sample of the Päijänne Tavas tia bog. Most of the bogs in the Lahti region have been drained and taken into use for forestry. The bog is accessed by duckboards.
