Reverse engineering is more and more boldly entering new branches of industry in Poland and abroad. It is a big step towards optimization of production and meeting the needs of the market. Professional approach to reverse engineering is a recipe for eliminating manufacturing shortcomings, i.e. for obtaining a final product without defects and imperfections, which often has the original product. It is also a way to refresh the look at the products that
In the technical environment, reverse engineering is sometimes unfairly called product copying. In this article we will try to present the fundamental difference between the two processes.
Professional reverse engineering is a combination of material engineering, metrology, production engineering and material strength. All these areas combined in the right combination are the recipe for the success of any production process resulting from reverse engineering.

To bring you closer to the complexity of the reverse engineering process, we will talk about a few components that are absolutely essential for the implementation of each new product.
Materials engineering At MAEM we use only the best material laboratories. The chemical composition of each workpiece is tested by means of a spectrometric machine. From the very beginning we are sure that the material we use for further processing will perfectly match the material of the original or will be a better alternative to the one used in the design process. It should be remembered that material engineering allows us to replace existing solutions with much better ones. Metrology MAEM Metrology Laboratory is equipped with the highest quality coordinate measuring machine and 3D scanner. After a thoroughly conducted measurement process, we have the dimensions of the tested element with an average accuracy of 0.005. This is an extremely important process because the produced elements in their work cycle work at high rotational speed. Any failure at this stage could lead to irregularities in the assembly and damage to the cooperating elements.
After the first two stages we create our own drawing documentation at MAEM, which allows us to start the next step, i.e. the prototype production.
Material durability
The step preceding the production of the trial batch is to make a detail in a 3D printer. This allows for the final verification of the collected dimensions before the start of the prototype production.
What distinguishes reverse engineering from copying is the process of durability testing of a manufactured component, as well as various works to improve and correct the original detail.
Production engineering
In MAEM we possess a Test Centre where manufactured elements are subjected to many hours of tests in the machines for which they are intended. At this stage we are able to introduce appropriate corrections and improvements in order to give our product the best possible properties. We believe this is the key to the company's success and we are proud to be able to create a product that is better than it was originally.
The machine hall in MAEM is almost 1500 m2 of modern, automated space. The workpiece is processed in a variety of different ways, according to a clearly defined scheme drawn up by the company's technological team. The final product is a prototype product. This is the end of the imaging process. This is where the institutions involved in the exclusive reproduction of original products come to an end. They receive a product that reflects the characteristics and properties of the original product.

NEVA 2019 EXHIBITION In 2019, a magnificent, monumental city of St. Petersburg hosted the Neva Exhibition attended by maritime related organisations and companies. The four day event enabled the visitors to meet 700 exhibitors who presented their products and services in two halls of the Expoforum Convention & Exhibition Centre. Obviously, MAEM could not miss the opportunity to be among them. The more so that participation in this year’s exhibition marked the 10th anniversary of our presence at the event. The exhibition is a unique opportunity to meet our existing customers and to establish new business relations. Kamil, Dorota, Aleksander and another Kamil had the pleasure of participating in the 2019 Neva Exhibition. See what was going on in St. Petersburg. Our stand provided two quiet places to talk with business partners. We served coffee brewed by a professional barista to all who wanted to grab it. The exhibition, as usual, was attended by a large number of visitors. They included also those interested in our offer and wanting to know more about our company. Thank you to all of the visitors who took the time to visit our stand. We hope that the 2019 NEVA Exhibition turned out to be rewarding and fruitful to you, just like it was to us. SAFETY FIRST Health and safety at work represent values in themselves for us. To this end, we have been continuously improving workplace safety and health from the very start of business operations. We strive to ensure that each employee returns home from work as healthy as they were at the beginning of the working day. Our aim is to eliminate all kinds of accidents at work, to create a safe work environment and to engage each employee in the safety process in order to promote safe work practices and appropriate work habits in and outside the workplace. One of the pillars of safety process we have implemented is the safety of manufacturing jobs. When starting work, production employees are provided with necessary personal protective equipment, including:

Anti-cut and/or anti-vibration gloves, depending on the specific job;

yellow for gantry crane operators;

blue for forklift drivers, buffer stock, quality control, production and warehouse staff;
Safety footwear; Hearing protection – earplugs to be worn by employees in accordance with their needs; Safety glasses required at the machining, quality control and assembly departments; Disposable coveralls with a disposable mask to be worn while painting; Safety helmets in colours depending on the job position. The assigned colours are as follows: •
white for the director, manager, maintenance department employees, HSE specialist

All our employees are also required to comply with safety rules and regulations, to behave in a safe manner and to report any potential threats identified in their own as well as in their colleagues’ workplaces. A separator to be reconditioned is taken apart, the components are one by one carefully inspected and repaired as necessary. The reconditioning process always ends with the balancing of reassembled machine, only then can we be certain it will work faultlessly for a couple of years to come.
Most of the widely used separator models are available in our stock. Each separator is packed and ready for shipping. 24 hours after placing an order you can have a reconditioned machine together with all fittings necessary for its installation on a ship at any place you choose.
We can also recondition your machine. Send us the separator that needs repairing and we will take care of the rest. Following careful inspection by our servicemen, we will provide you with a list of things to be done and an estimated cost of reconditioning. If you decide to have it repaired, MAEM will cover the cost of inspection.

WE LOVE TO HELP A dog is a man’s best friend. Sadly, there are those among us who cannot reciprocate this unconditional love. As a result of the neglect or intentional actions, dogs and other animals land in facilities run by persons who devote their lives to the care of “lesser brothers”. We should all help such people.
The initiative generated a tremendous response from our employees and we managed to collect:
This year, MAEM employees have organised a charity collection of food, blankets and other things to help live through winter the animals that are under the care of Krakow-based Człowiek dla Zwierząt Foundation that looks after 140 dogs, several dozen cats, a dozen or so horses, a donkey and a goat.
Angelika and Mr. Ryszard delivered the donations to the animal shelter on behalf of MAEM. Many thanks to the two of them.

SUMMER PICNIC MAEM It is a great challenge to be a MAEM employee. Each of us is fully aware that an individual approach to work leads to the company’s success at home and abroad, but the success is primarily a result of daily cooperation between people and departments. What do we mean by this? Our business partners could not appreciate MAEM quality products if it were not for the purchasing department that established relationships with suppliers meeting our stringent quality standards, the production department could not function if it were not for a close cooperation with engineers from the implementation department… We could go on and on about this perfectly working system of interdependent elements of our organisation, but let’s leave it for another story. What we are going to tell you about now is a special day on which we are no longer on the same MAEM team. Once

a year, there is a time to compete, to clear up all misunderstandings between departments outside the conference room. There is also a time to talk in a relaxed atmosphere of a family picnic. To make a long story short, welcome to MAEM Summer Unusual Games in brief. This year, the organising committee has chosen Bolechowice Manor House, a picturesque hotel located in beautiful recreational surroundings close to Krakow, to host our Games. To remind ourselves that what awaits us is a fun-filled competition, we took a picture in which you can see almost the whole, more than 100 MAEM staff. Then we proceeded to compete in the Games. The whole day of competition ended with awards “pouring out” coupled with satisfying the competitors’ appetite. After that we returned to our homes and everything was back to normal… Next day, MAEM staff in unison and full cooperation got to manufacturing spare parts you receive in response to your orders.

AMAZING BEACHES Each one is different. Many a tourist has been entranced by their unique beauty. Some are yellow, others are white and still others are black – with fine sand, gravel or pebbles. Some are surrounded by cliffs and others by lush vegetation. Getting acquainted with our selection of amazing beaches, you will be at a loss to choose a place to rest next time. After all, we escape to the seaside for a change of scenery, if only for a moment, to relax and to feast our eyes on breathtaking views. ◀ Beaches in Łeba, Poland
Łeba is a seaside town with a very long coastline. Flat and exceptionally wide beaches with light coloured, extremely soft sand stretch for more than 10 km. A pine forest belt separates all beaches from residential areas. This undisturbed stretch of sand is divided into the eastern and western beaches by the port channel with the Łeba River passing through it. One of the best known nature attractions near Łeba western beaches is UNESCO-listed Słowiński National Park with moving sand dunes that are unique in Europe and called by many the Polish Sahara. The largest dune takes up 500 hectares (5,000,000 square meters) and the highest one, Łącka Dune, measures 42 meters.
Scala dei Turchi Beach, Italy This beautiful sandy beach is located close to Porto Empedocle near Agrigento, Sicily, and owes its charm to the cliff towering over it. The cliff is made of sedimentary marl rock and looks like a staircase with brilliant white, rounded steps. Hence, the name Scala dei Turchi which translates as the “Stairs of the Turks”. The second part of the name goes back to Turkish pirates who, in olden days, found shelter there during storms. What’s interesting is that many people who visit the place cover their bodies with white mudstone. It is rich in minerals and has a beneficial effect on the skin.

Ölüdeniz Beach, Turkey

Ölüdeniz literally means “dead sea” and refers to the fact that the wind almost never blows here and there are no crashing waves in sight. A particular aura surrounds the place, ideal for contemplation and relaxation. The beach is almost invisible from the Mediterranean Sea, while lavish vegetation envelopes it on the land side. The Ölüdeniz Beach is a part of the Turquoise Coast of Turkey, owing its name to the seawater glistening with magnificent shades of azure. The highest peak in the area, Mount Babadağ, rises up to almost 2,000 meters above the beach. It is where 45-minute paragliding flights culminated with beach landing begin. ◀ Khalaktyrsky Beach, Russia
Situated on the Kamchatka Peninsula, the Khalaktyrsky Beach is one of the most beautiful jet black beaches in the world. The cause of unusual colour of sand is the peninsula location – it lies in the Pacific Ring of Fire. Due to frequent volcanic eruptions, black volcanic sand covers 30 km of the east coast of Kamchatka. The Khalaktyrsky Beach is a dream place for those who like active rest in natural settings. You can surf here all year round, riding waves up to 15 meters high. The only drawback is water maximum temperature that reaches 15 degrees Celsius in summer.
Navagio Beach, Greece

Also called the Shipwreck Beach (navagio translates as the “shipwreck”), it is located at the northwestern tip of Zakynthos Island, in the Ionian Islands. The beach owes its name to the wreck of a smuggler ship Panagiotis washed ashore during the storm in 1980, as one of the stories goes. It is considered among the most beautiful beaches in the world, with crystal clear waters of amazing turquoise blue colour attributed to limestone formed on the seafloor. The beach is situated in a narrow cove surrounded on three sides by limestone cliffs that are hundreds of meters high and it can only be reached by boat.

THE EXTRAORDINARY WOMEN OF THE SEA They are said to be Asian sirens that climb the depths of sea apnea in search of ears, oysters and other treasures of the underwater world. According to legend, they are descendants of sea gypsies swimming in the waters of South Asia. The first written reference to them is in a poem which is part of the oldest anthology of Japanese poetry Man'yĹ?shĹŤ dating back to the 8th century. Nowadays, they can be
found not only in Japan (Mie, Iwate and Ishikawa Prefecture), but also on the Korean island of Jeju. Japanese sirens are called Ama, which literally means a woman of the sea. It is a profession practiced almost exclusively by women, who initially collected various types of crustaceans, molluscs and algae. It was not until 1890 that Kokichi Mikimoto, a Japanese scientist and precursor of sea pearl farming,
began to associate this profession mainly with fishing. Kokichi employed Ama to collect oysters and place grains of sand inside them, from which pearls were formed, and then put them in a safe place on the underwater bottom. It was also thanks to Kokichi Ama that they gained white cotton robes, which are still considered to be their traditional workwear. There are currently around 800 Ama working in Japan. Most of them are over 60 years old, some are over 80. There are not many young women who decide to learn diving on one inspiration, because it is a very demanding profession. two hundred times, staying under the surface of the water for up to two minutes. This is made possible by a special breathing technique passed down from generation to generation. The result is a squeaky whistle called isobue, which every Ama emits when she emerges to the surface. It protects her lungs from pressure changes and hyperventilation. In Korea, in turn, there are currently around 4000 fishermen of octopus, sea urchins and sea snails called Haenyeo (their average age is 60 years, 98% of them are more than 50 years old). They are affiliated to one of the 100 special cooperatives located on the island of Jeju. There is a hierarchy among
Haenyeo that divides each community into three groups: the novices called Nagun, the more experienced called Janggun, and the oldest and most experienced women called Sanggun. The role of the Sanggunâ–˛ is to pass on knowledge and watch over the group, because according to Korean law, Haenyeo must always dive in the group for safety reasons. Dives usually last 2-3 minutes and are performed from 5 to 7 hours, which allows you to catch about 30 kilograms of seafood. In addition, to protect waters from overfishing, each Haenyeo can only do its job 12 days a month.

The state also sponsors oxygen therapy, which is supposed to help in the fight against diseases affecting diving Korean women. Parasailing Parasailing is an activity where you are towed behind a boat, being attached to a specially designed piece of material resembling a parachute by means of the harness that allows you to sit comfortably and freely admire the coastal scenery. The activity is thought to be safe, the more so that it is performed in life jackets. You may parasail alone or with a group. In an emergency, the harness can be quickly unhooked and you will land safely in water or on land. Each parasail ride lasts about 10 minutes and you will soar up to 40-100 meters above the water.

Flyboarding It is the most popular hydroflight sport performed on the Flyboard. The device is propelled by a personal watercraft with a 100-150 horsepower engine allowing the rider to perform various extreme manoeuvres both in water and up to 20 meters above the water surface. It features an 18-23 meters’ hose attached to the personal watercraft turbine generating two water jets forced under pressure to propel the device. The Flyboard was invented in 2012 by Franky Zapata, a former jet ski racing champion and founder of Zapata Racing. His latest invention is the Flyboard Air which, with the fuel tank being filled to full, allows a person weighing 100 kg to fly for 10 minutes at 150 km/h.

Cliff Diving Clif f jumping, also known as clif f diving, is an extreme sport for the brave. When jumping from the height of 6 meters, the diver falls at a speed of up to 40 km/h, which affects the water surface tension; it becomes as hard as concrete. Only a proper jumping technique may reduce the water tension. This has been proved by jumps from the heights exceeding 20 meters performed by leading cliff divers. The main rule of cliff diving is to check the water depth and the safety of coastal seabed before the first jump. Water must be free of any rocks or stones that could be threatening to the diver’s life.

Stand Up Paddleboard Yoga Stand Up Paddleboard Yoga (SUP Yoga) combines surfing with yoga practised on a paddleboard. It is an excellent summer alternative to land yoga, stimulating your senses and making you redefine thoroughly the most basic asanas. Everything that seemed obvious while practising land yoga becomes a significant challenge right from the beginning now: standing, sitting, the simplest asanas performed on a paddleboard. At first, it looks like starting to practise yoga from scratch. Yet, with time, it changes into a very pleasant physical activity. Each session of yoga practised on water is a unique, one-of-a-kind experience, not only because of different asana sequences but also thanks to being so close to nature.
