Our Mission:

he Lynn Area Chamber of Commerce is a member-driven organization, providing businesses the opportunity to increase and strengthen their business relationships in the greater Lynn area. The LACC seeks to enhance the economic vitality of the greater Lynn area by developing and providing educational and marketing initiatives, networking, legislative advocacy, collaborative leadership and business resources to our membership. The Lynn Area Chamber of Commerce is a non-profit 501 C (6), membership based business organization representing over 400 businesses in 100 different professions ranging from one-person operation to several thousand employees. A twenty-three member Board of Directors sets the policy for the organization. The Lynn Area Chamber of Commerce encourages entrepreneurship, student and current workforce development, local and state legislative advocacy, promotion of the area, as well as networking and education events. Businesses are the lifeblood to a community. Our members financially support many civic and charitable organizations.

History Of The Chamber

he Lynn Area Chamber of Commerce began in 1912 as the Lynn Chamber of Commerce (LCC). The LCC was the brainchild of then prominent businessman Ralph S. Bauer who also helped form the Lynn Board of Trade which then morphed into the LCC. Bauer, who served as LCC president for several years, was a Massachusetts politician who served as the thirty eighth Mayor of Lynn. In addition, Bauer organized the Essex County Associated Boards of Trade, lead the fight against increased fares on the Bay State railway, he was “the big man” in the inauguration of the White Way system in Lynn which was created to mirror the “Great White Way of Broadway in New York City, made major improvements to the downtown business district and Bauer was responsible for creating Lynn Shore Drive – “considered one of the most scenic boulevards in all of America” for its time. Like present day, the LCC membership was made up of big manufacturing and the smaller family-owned businesses. History echoes today’s issues as transportation, revenue taxes, permitting, signage, hours of operation and a “call for cooperation” were all issues of the day. In the mid 1960’s the Lynn Chamber of Commerce changed its name to the Lynn Area Chamber of Commerce (LACC). At that time the LCC was expanding its business membership into the communities of Lynnfield, Nahant and Swampscott and wanted to change its name to reflect the “area” and members which it serves.

Lynnfield A Message from Lynnfield: While the Town of Lynnfield is well known as one of the best places to live in New England, the same factors that have made it a premier residential community have also made it one of the best places in the region to own and operate a business. First and foremost among these factors is a strong municipal government that values its growing business community. A volunteer-driven town government is staffed by professionals who have made working with businesses a priority, by streamlining government permitting processes and keeping commercial tax rates low through efficient and prudent spending policies. The Town of Lynnfieldâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s commercial sector has grown significantly in recent years, chiefly due to the establishment of the MarketStreet lifestyle center, which combines a thriving retail center with office space and residences. The public-private partnership that led to the MarketStreet development has been held up as a model for other communities in the region looking to expand their commercial sector and housing while maintaining their essential characters. Lynnfield values its business community not only for its significant contribution to the tax base, but also for its employment opportunities, its strong support for many vital community organizations, and its generous financial support for our schools, youth and recreational sporting activities, civic, cultural and artistic endeavors, and many other essential community programs. Nahant A Message from NAHANT: Nahant is blessed with beautiful beaches, rocky coasts, and scenic vistas. It is an exciting time for the Town. Our Johnson Elementary School has a new superintendent and principal. Northeastern Marine Science Center is expanding and offering programs to students and visitors from all over Massachusetts. We have an active arts and music scene and a number of recreational groups. However, our biggest asset is our residents who make up our community groups. Nahant has a long and rich history of being made up of community groups and diverse individuals who share a common ground and strong commitment to our Town. Groups such as SWIM (Safer Waters in Massachusetts), “01908”, the Veterans Association, and Council on Aging are just a few of them. The Town of Nahant values its relationship with the Lynn Area Chamber of Commerce for their support of our community groups. The support of GLSS benefits our Council on Aging by providing services for our seniors such as health fairs, programs and free milk. Although we have a small commercial base, our businesses are growing because of their involvement with the Lynn Area Chamber of Commerce. The Nahant Country Club, Tides Restaurant, Oceanview of Nahant, Bayside Function Hall, and Jesmond Nursing home are our major businesses who are Chamber of Commerce members and all thriving.
