LEADER is loaded with 1,200 tonnes of spoil every day, before undertaking a 67 mile round trip from Willesden to Calvert. The spoil is dropped at a 100 year old chalk quarry, where it is processed into a restoration material. The new process uses 1,100 litres of Gasoil per trip – in order to transport the same amount of spoil by road, 90 lorries would have to make the journey, which would require 9302 litres of white diesel. Overall, it is believed that the new method creates 70% less CO2 emissions that the traditional method of spoil removal, With Ray at the helm as Waste Facility Manager, the team at Calvert are hoping to handle 200,000 tonnes in 2013, and plans are in place to more than double the handling ability to 500,000 tonnes in 2014.

Lynch’s Ray Cripps is recognised with RFG award for ‘Outstanding Individual Contribution’ With more and more work going on across the capital, the question of how best to handle excavated spoil had recently started to become a very real concern. In January 2012, Ray Cripps, one of the Lynch’s depot managers came up with an innovative solution, a solution so good he has recently been recognised with an ‘Outstanding Individual Contribution Award’ at the 2013 RFG Awards. Ray’s plan was to revolutionise the way excavated spoil was transported out of central London. By utilising the

capital’s rail network and sending the material by train to Buckinghamshire for treatment, over 17,000 lorries have been taken off of London’s busy roads. The Lynch Rail Hub was opened in November 2012 and it soon became obvious that it was going to provide the answer the industry was seeking. An 18 carriage wagon, operated by the Devon and Cornwall Railway,

Over 140 customers have already benefitted from the Rail Hub scheme, and it is hoped that this figure will continue to grow. Such a project has never been undertaken in the Central London construction industry before, but with Ray’s ingenuity and the support of the industry, Lynch hope to make Rail Hub the industry standard for spoil disposal. Sales Director Robert Lynch said: “It is fitting that the first industry award for Lynch has gone to an exceptional person within our business. It has been a pleasure to support him.”

Lynch Plant Hire & HAULAGE — Meeting Hire Demands

The show was primarily aimed at operators, which meant there were plenty of opportunities for them to demonstrate their working skills on the machines, with a number of ‘challenge’ events going on throughout the day such as the ‘hook a duck’ competition.

Lynch Operator Family Plant Show is a great success The Family Plant Show and Operator’s Open day event on Sunday 1st Sept, organised and orchestrated by Lynch Plant Hire, turned out to be a hugely successful day. The event, the first of its kind, took place just off Junction 24 of the M5 at Bridgwater in Somerset and was attended by over 3,000 people, raising over £2,000 for ‘The Lighthouse Club’ — a construction industry charity which gives much needed financial support to families of construction professionals affected by illness, injury or death. Family Fun The day attracted many of the leading plant manufacturers including JCB, Volvo, Case, WackerNeuson, Atlas Copco, Merlo, Thwaites and

Bobcat who were all represented by an array of heavy plant machines and equipment, along with many offer suppliers of equipment and industry related goods.

Here, operators using a Takeuchi TB228 mini excavator were challenged to pick up four ducks using a specially adapted hook on the quick hitch and place the various sized ducks on the top of road cones. In another test, operators were challenged to stack ten tyres on top of each other against the clock, using a rotating selector grab equipped WackerNeuson 9503-2 rubber duck.

Operator Challenges Apart from the challenges and demonstrations there was also a ‘Classic Plant Parade’, a plant simulator, trade stands from various industry associations all offering plenty of advice on issues such as employment, training and safety. Children were also kept fully entertained with a ‘Kids Fun Zone’ which included excavator rides and radio controlled models, which simulated a road

It is important for Lynch Plant hire to have more face-to-face interaction with the industry’s operators, to have more time for one-on-ones and understand any issues they may have. The event also gave operators the chance to see the latest machines up close, as well as affording them the chance to speak directly to the sales reps, providing both parties with good feedback.
