Keeping communities safe POLICE are urging residents to join them in making their communities safer by getting involved with Neighbourhood Watch and Safer Community Group initiatives. Police community liaison officer leading sen-const Brett Godden said town meetings were held once a month and empowered residents to voice their concerns and to let police know what was going on in their areas in a nonthreatening, informal arena. “Meetings allow the community and police to mutually assist each other in the aim of reducing crime and increasing public safety,” he said.

“Neighbourhood Watch is a community-based crime-prevention program that aims to reduce the incidence of preventable crimes such as burglary and theft as well as promoting closer community ties. “The program educates residents on security and safety and the reporting of suspicious incidents to the police.” Topics typically discussed include crime statistics, crime-prevention strategies, home-security advice, hoon driving, traffic problems (including the current freeway closure updates), graffiti, upcoming police operations and current scams, to name but a few.

Have your say on Latrobe tourism A DRAFT report reviewing Latrobe City’s tourism products and visitor services was released for public comment last week. The Latrobe City Tourism Product Audit and Review of Visitor Services draft report is designed to provide an understanding of the municipality’s products and

strengths, uniqueness and marketing as well as visitor trends. The final report will inform future tourism strategies. Allison Jones, Latrobe City’s general manager economic sustainability, said local and state governments, businesses and community groups had already

been consulted. “The release of the draft report for public comment provides an opportunity for the broader community to ‘have their say’,” she said. Copies of the draft report can be viewed at any Latrobe City service centre or at www.latrobe. vic.gov.au.

Written submissions, to be received by 20 April, should be addressed to Linda Brock, Tourism Coordinator Latrobe City Council, PO Box 264, Morwell 3840. All submissions will be considered public documents. Enquiries: Linda Brock on 5128 5655 or Linda.Brock@latrobe.vic. gov.au.
