MASERATI’S 2014 ALFIERI CONCEPT DESIGN GURU LORENZO RAMACIOTTI UNVEILS A STUNNING NEW CONCEPT BASED ON THE ICONIC ALFIERI RACE CAR

Stealing the spotlight at the Geneva Motor Show is no simple feat – but with its head-turning curves, the Maserati Alfieri concept managed to do just that. Named after the Italian marque’s founder, the Alfieri is a tribute to Maserati racing heritage, particularly channeling the legendary 1954 Maserati A6 GCS. More than a nostalgic throwback, however, the historic details are injected into an entirely futuristic concept, defining Maserati’s unstoppable vision. A creation of design guru Lorenzo Ramaciotti, the Alfieri sits at 180.7 inches long and 50.4 inches high, with the curved, dramatic exterior interpreting an unmistakably Maserati feel. A bold grille emphasizes the low, lengthened front alongside bi-xenon LED headlamps, and the staggered-diameter forged aluminum wheels are set with decorative spokes, 1950s style. The riveting form is finished with a sensual shade of Steel Flair, evoking “a metallic veil draped over a naked body”, while the wheel spokes, grille, air ducts, and rear diffuser are highlighted in signature Maserati Blue, including a blue Alfieri signature on the rear reproduced from the company’s archives. Under the distinctive hood is a naturally aspirated 4.7-liter V8, pumping 460 horsepower and 384 lb-ft of torque. A six-speed automated manual gearbox, limited-slip rear differential, and a 106.3 inch wheelbase add up

to pure, powerful control, as do the carbon-ceramic brake discs, borrowed from the Maserati GranTurismo Stradale. The interior does not compromise on sensuality either, with sleek, 2+2 seating handmade in two-tone Luna white and dark Basalt blue aniline leather, which also envelops the dash and central console. A TUFT screen centers the dashboard, while copper-toned accents and a floor imitating oxidized steel, commonly used in 1950s race cars, complete the nod to Maserati’s grand tradition.
