MIlpa Alta: San Pablo Oztotepec Market ≤ Located in Milpa Alta, one of the least well-off boroughs of the Federal District, in the village of San Pablo Oztotepec, the new village market building is part of a local government program to respond to the most pressing needs of the population.

≤ The market enters into dialogue with the topog-

raphy of the zone with a simple sheet metal roof which varies in height, but makes use of regular modular sections. These covering elements emulate the tarpaulins or plastic sheets used in tianguis (traditional markets) all across Mexico which are often raised, separated or joined in a random fashion to let in natural light and ventilation.

≤ To avoid direct sunlight falling on the fruit, vegetables and

other foodstuffs sold inside, the market boasts a series of metal louver shutters on the south and west façades which prevent sunlight entering directly but do allow indirect natural light and constant ventilation. The monochromatic building rises up stealthily, awaiting an enriching exchange with the multicolored goods to be sold there. The subjective interpretation of the space in the setting-out of each of the stalls will enhance the conceptual scheme chosen.
