Small hamlet of the town of Pisa, located 2 m above sea level south of the mouth of the Arno River on the Ligurian Sea. The people today are accustomed to call it simply “Marina”, but until the last century, the older people continue to use the term “Boccadarno”. During the summer the town is the destination of daily holidaymakers they comes mainly from Pisa and its province, especially on weekends. The accommodation facilities are mainly provided by private, weekly rentals of houses and apartments, however there are also hotels, residences and camping. Along the coast the wide choice of beaches and numerous bathing establishments. A nightclub, several bars and restaurants are open all year round. In the afternoon of the holidays the waterfront is closed to traffic and transformed into a crowded pedestrian area. Crossed by the SP224, which leads from Pisa to Livorno, is 12 km from Pisa and 14 km from Livorno. Easily accessible from the motorway exit of Pisa (A12) or from the road Firenze-Pisa-Livorno, or from Via Aurelia, parallel to the SP224. Marina di Pisa, together with the hamlets of Tirrenia and Calambrone form the Pisan seacoast. During the summer the event takes place “Marenia”, which extends to the Tirrenia, with shows, outdoor markets and other initiatives. Marina di Pisa in 2012 will turn 140 years, and the coast of Tirrenia with the Calambrone colonies will turn 80 years. In this context, the Province of Pisa offers a rich calendar of events and activities aimed at the promotion and

development of the area outside of the traditional tourist season. In this regard, the Committee has been constituted Coast Pisano 2012, members of the same Province of Pisa, city of Pisa, Tuscany Region Chamber of Commerce and many other subjects including trade associations, sports associations, cultural foundations, active along the Tyrrhenian coast and the local tourist office. In programming there are interesting events in the cultural, historical and sports field. First of a series of exhibitions and courses of business focus in “La piazzetta dei Miracoli” in front of the church of San Sisto. The objective is to support and encourage local young producers of local food and wine. Marina di Pisa is a modern seaside resort, careful to support improved services to the community, focusing on ecology with the introduction of seven new communal recycling depot, aimed at the collection of waste as a resource for improvement of the area and not disfiguring the environment. The economy is primarily based on tourism, mainly Italian. Even fishing is practiced, especially by local citizens, particularly important is fishing for mussels. The storage, hauling and launching, of the boats are an important voice in the local economy: many sites exist along the avenue that connects Pisa to Marina, Viale Gabriele D’Annunzio, runs along the left bank of the Arno. In winter, numerous restaurants and bars are popular, especially on weekends, by the inhabitants of the surrounding places.
