It’s been six years since the first edition of ANIMAGE - International Animation Festival of Pernambuco, in 2009. Since then, the festival has only grown. The number of exhibitions, locations and selected works has tripled and increased, in a very extensive way, its audience. Despite the growth, our goal has remained the same: encourage the production of local animation films and create an audience attentive to challenging and innovative films. ANIMAGE focuses on authorial cinema and, for our main screening – the Short Film Competitive, we received 611 registrations from 50 countries. We selected 78 films, through a very hard curatorial process, which are distributed between the Competitve and Children Competitive Screenings. We also invested on a strong and diversified jury. The Canadian Chris Robinson, artistic director of the Ottawa International Animation Festival, Regina Pessoa, renowned Portuguese filmmaker, and Alê Abreu, Brazilian illustrator and filmmaker compose the jury of this edition. The films will be awarded with the ANIMAGE Trophy in many categories and the audience will also participate by choosing their favorite films. On the sixth edition, thanks to a partnership with the National Film Board Of Canada, we will homage the centenary of the Scottish/Canadian animator Norman McLaren, bringing to the public a special screening with his most important films. We also brought an exhibition composed by studies, drawings, photographs, films and documentaries about the life of the animator, pioneer in different areas of the cinema, especially the abstract animation film. The film Kali, the Little Vampire, by the Portuguese Regina Pessoa, exhibited on the fourth edition of ANIMAGE, is a special feature of this edition with special exhibition, promising to entertain children and adults by unravelling the process of the short film through the making of, toys and optical instruments. As usual, the festival also offers a series of special screenings: for the third consecutive year, the Erotic Screening comes to leave the audience of the Cinema São Luiz exciting. The festival invited by ANIMAGE this year was the Ottawa International Animation Festival, one of the most traditional festivals of the world. The Parque Screening will make parents and children have fun with open air exhibitions at parks and squares in Recife and Olinda. Six feature films will be exhibited during the festival days. There will be three Brazilian films: The first animation feature film made in history, Sinfonia
