Canadian Audio Visual Providers Association | Association Canadienne des fournisseurs de services audiovisuels

President’s Report Dear Members, As we approach the end of another year, I trust you all had a successful and prosperous fall season. A heartfelt thank you to everyone who joined our virtual Town Hall in August, hosted from the Bespoke AV studio in Toronto. We had a total of 35 attendees, fostering a great discussion with many valuable ideas and perspectives. Since then, the board has been diligently working on key initiatives, and I’m pleased to report substantial progress over the past few months.

CAVPA Board at the Town Hall

The board successfully finalized the CAVPA strategic plan, outlining the purpose and goals of our association with actionable targets for the coming year, which will be presented at the AGM in January. As part of this effort, we refined some key messaging, including the primary description of CAVPA, now updated on the website: “Representing Canadian-owned audiovisual companies by engaging with the event industry, facilitating government advocacy, and creating career awareness.” This succinctly reflects CAVPA’s three main pillars: Advocacy (Government), Awareness (Careers), and Engagement (Industry). Between now and the AGM, we’ll be making further updates to the website and materials to align with this updated messaging. Collaborating with our existing sponsors, we revamped the CAVPA sponsorship program to now include three tiers: Platinum (previously “Special Partners”), Gold, and Silver. This modification allows us to attract more sponsors by offering a range of financial commitments and benefits. The updated sponsorship program is now available on the website, and we are currently in discussions with two potential new sponsors. In recognition of our three original sponsors, IntelliEvent, SC Media, and Theatrixx – all in our top “Platinum Sponsor” category – we created a special designation of “Founding Sponsor,” which is now reflected on the website. As announced recently, CAVPA is delighted to have formed a new partnership with CFIB, the Canadian Federation of Independent Businesses. Now, all CAVPA members can receive a CFIB membership at no additional cost as part of the CAVPA dues. CFIB, with over 97,000 members, is Canada’s largest advocacy organization concerned about the survival and growth of independent businesses. This new benefit brings significant cost savings for those already with CFIB and a substantial advantage for those who were not members, providing access to numerous benefits. More details on accessing these new benefits will be available soon. Lastly, as many of you know, the CAVPA board consists of unpaid volunteers. This commitment involves a significant investment of time away from running our own businesses to work on various initiatives and move things forward. I’m proud to acknowledge and thank each fellow board member for their time and support this year. I’m also grateful to those members who offered suggestions and feedback on how CAVPA can better serve our members; your engagement guides the board and signals your investment in our progress. As we approach our upcoming AGM on January 24, 2024, I encourage members to consider volunteering for a board term – the best way to directly influence our direction and progress. Information on the AGM and board nominations is included in this newsletter. Looking ahead, I anticipate seeing you virtually at our AGM in January and at our 2024 in-person events, including Expo-Scene (Montreal, April 10-11), CMEE (Toronto, Aug 13-14), our CAVPA summer town hall (Toronto, Aug 14), and the CAVPA reception at Infocomm Las Vegas in June. More details on these events will be shared in the new year. Until then, I wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! Tim Lang, President
