Introduction Welcome from LSE Careers I would like to take this opportunity extend a warm welcome from LSE Careers. Although you’ve only just started your RUPS course, some of you will already be thinking about your career options when you finish. We’ve put this booklet together to help make sure you don’t miss out. On the next few pages you’ll find details of how to get one to one help from a careers consultant, where jobs are advertised and where you can find useful careers information. One thing we find is that every year a number of students miss deadlines for graduate schemes. Many have closing dates are often only a few weeks after you start here at the LSE! Although we’ve listed many of the larger companies offering structured graduate schemes, it is by no means a definitive list. Many of our graduates go on to work for smaller companies and policy making organisations who recruit in a very different way. For those of you with more professional experience, these schemes may also not be suitable for you. Remember to check company websites and look in the experienced hire section. LinkedIn is also a very useful resource to help you connect with others doing work you are interested in.

Welcome from the Department While at the LSE, take every opportunity you can to talk to alumni who have obtained graduate positions in GY450 and at our Meet the Employers evening, site visits and skills sessions. RUPS alumni have worked for a number of the companies listed here as both graduate trainees and mid-level and senior managers. You can check out our LinkedIn group for details of who is currently working for companies that interest you. Don’t forget too to make the most of LSE Careers. You can have a 1:1 career discussion about your career options, job search strategy, making applications and interviews. Vacancies are advertised on Career Hub and there is information about the property and built environment sector on the LSE Careers website.

We look forward to working with you over the coming year.

Since graduation from the LSE, I started working for the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD). Holding dual qualifications in landscape architecture and urban planning, my focus with the EBRD is on environmental policy and planning. Currently I am working in Russia for one of the largest environmental partnerships in Northern Europe - alongside the World Bank, NEFCO and the EIB. The position allows me to use my background in physical design together with the education gained from the LSE in policy and economics research. All in all, I couldn't be happier with the doors the RUPS programme opened.

EMPLOYER A-Z Graduate Traineeships Graduate schemes offer the opportunity of working for a company that is looking for early career professionals with a relevant degree, but perhaps not a great deal of experience. You will typically be able to pursue your APC with the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors via this route-way. Below are details about a number of companies who we know hire Graduate Trainees. It is by no means a definitive list and you should always do your own research. Internships Some of the companies listed below also offer internships that allow you to get an idea of what it is like to work in the sector. Experienced Hire If you have a few year’s experience, a graduate traineeship probably won’t be suitable. Have a look on the Experienced Hire or other relevant Division/Team on the websites. LinkedIn is also a great source of job opportunities and contacts too.
