Director’s Message To our residents and patrons: The beginning of a new season is the perfect time to make personal commitments to live a happier and healthier life. Longmeadow Parks and Recreation offers wonderful opportunities for you and your family to visit a park, enjoy tennis at Greenwood, Blinn or Bliss courts, walk on a park trail or take in a great program offering! Please take a few minutes to review this brochure. Some camps and programs fill up quickly so it is not too early to begin planning your summer activities. Even as costs continue to rise in providing these core services to our residents, we endeavor to keep our service fees down. Please understand that you may see some increases in our pricing structure to ensure that we can continue to offer these quality services. We have great things in store like our popular Field Hockey and Lacrosse camps, our tennis lessons for ages 3.5-adult and our Learn To Swim program for ages four to adult. I’d like to offer special thanks to the Longmeadow Cultural Council for their financial support of our Father Daughter Valentine’s Ball. I’d also like to thank PeoplesBank for their generosity in granting the Greenwood Center STEM lab a very generous donation to upgrade the lab and purchase new technology. The STEM lab is a vital component to both our preschool and school age programs. If you are interested in touring Greenwood Children’s Center please call 565.4163 to set up an appointment today! We will hold our eighth annual Pancake Breakfast on Saturday, May 17 from 7am-10am at the Longmeadow Community House. Join us for a morning of pancakes, sausage, coffee, juice and fun! QuickStart Tennis, Ages 10 and under The QuickStart Tennis format works by getting kids into the game immediately. Within the first hour of stepping onto the court, kids are actually playing the game, rallying with one another, moving around and having fun. With QuickStart, the shorter and narrower courts give kids the confidence and ability to cover the entire court. Junior racquets are proportionate in length and weight and have the grips that fit smaller hands, making it easier to control. And balls that bounce at a height equal to kids’ playing abilities allows for better and longer rallies and allows them to build all court games. By being introduced to this style of play from the start, your kids will gain confidence by seeing their own immediate progress which will make them more enthusiastic about continuing to play and improve.
