A SELL-OUT CROWD of 148,000 guests enjoyed a sensational 17th Goodwood Revival Meeting on the weekend of September 12-14 at the Goodwood Motor Circuit. The on-track highlights included the annual RAC TT Celebration race for early-1960s GT cars, which was won by the AC Cobra of Sauber Formula 1 test driver Giedo van der Garde and David Hart, after a thrilling battle against a £150million field that included Jaguar E-types, Aston Martin Project cars and even a Bizzarini. The 60th anniversary of the Jaguar D-Type was marked with a 30-car parade plus the Lavant Cup

race exclusively for examples of the Le Mans-winning British sportscar, while the Maserati 250F also turned 60 with variants of the Italian grand prix car making up two thirds of the Richmond Trophy field for frontengined F1 machinery of the late 1950s. Sir Jackie Stewart’s extraordinary career – which was catapulted into life at Goodwood in 1964 thanks to a maiden single-seater test – was marked with a 24-car parade that featured fellow motor racing legends John Surtees, Richard Attwood, Mark Webber and Arturo Merzario, while the 75th anniversary of RAF Westhampnett – Goodwood Aerodrome’s name during World A packed crowd enjoys the weekend’s racing Witnesses sought after cyclist found unconscious

Parents encouraged to make sure they have their say CALLING ALL FAMILIES – have you had your say yet? What’s important to you when it comes to West Sussex County Council services? How much council tax are you prepared to pay to fund them? There is still time to make your voice count as the County Council asks ‘What Matters To You?’. The answers given in the countywide consultation will help shape the 2015/16 budget. So far we’ve heard from more than 1,500 people – but the vast majority (almost 80%) of responses have come from residents without children. And less than 23% have come from residents below the age of 45. Louise Goldsmith, Leader of the

County Council, said: “We provide services worth over £500 million to more than 800,000 people in West Sussex. “For 24 hours a day, seven days a week, our services support the elderly, protect children in care, maintain much of the county’s road network and provide the county’s fire service – and that’s just the start of it. “Any decision we make about our budget will affect each and every one of them in some way - that’s why it is absolutely crucial for us to hear from as many of our residents as possible, from a wide cross section of our population. “Whoever you are, whatever you do and wherever it is in West Sussex

Man wanted for child abuse tracked down Reward offered in search for man over Sussex burglaries

A FATHER who sexually abused a teenage girl and then went into hiding has been jailed after officers tracked him down. Michael McCarthy was seen by

with a child and was jailed for 18 months at Lewes Crown Court on 4 September. PC Stephen Reed, of Sussex Police, said: “It has taken a long time to apprehend McCarthy but finally justice has been done for his victim and McCarthy’s family. His actions have had a devastating effect on their lives. “McCarthy knew he was wanted by police but deliberately tried to keep a low profile which allowed him to stay out of prison for as long as he did. “The fact that he is now in prison shows that we will not give up looking for someone just because they have been missing for a period of time. “If you are wanted, you should keep looking over your shoulder as we will not give up the chase until we have arrested you.”

SUSSEX POLICE has increased its reward to £2500 in a bid to find 38year old Simon Peter Knights, wanted for interview in relation to several house burglaries. They believe that he is travelling by train along the South Coast and London to Brighton routes. There were four burglaries and one attempted burglary at addresses in Barnham, West Sussex, during the day on Monday 16 June, and a burglary during the day in Park Road, Burgess Hill, on Thursday 19 June. Two addresses in Downview Road, one in Elm Grove and one in Barnham Road, Barnham, were broken into and jewellery was taken.

An unsuccessful attempt was made to enter another Barnham Road address. In the Burgess Hill burglary several hundreds of pounds worth of jewellery was taken. Knights is described as white, about 5’8”, and has ginger hair and blue eyes. Detective Inspector David Wardley-Wilkins said: “We have information that Knights travels regularly by train and we are working with British Transport Police to see if we can trace him in that way too.” Officers are also making enquiries in East Sussex and in the Southend and Basildon areas of south Essex, where Knights is known to have connections. The reward is offered subject to arrest and conviction for one or more of the offences. DI Wardley-Wilkins said: “If you know where Knights is please contact Sussex Police via 101 or email 101@ sussex.pnn.police.uk quoting Serial 840 of 16/06. You can also contact the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.” Sussex Police launched Operation Magpie to tackle burglaries in the county.

Michael McCarthy pleaded guilty to two counts of sexual activity with a child

children assaulting his vulnerable 13-year-old victim in Bracklesham Bay in November 2005 but after he was challenged about the incident he disappeared. Police were contacted but for nine years McCarthy managed to conceal his identity by only taking cash-in-hand jobs and not claiming benefits, which would have alerted officers to where he was living. After his picture was shown on Crimewatch on 19 March, locals who knew him as a pub DJ and professional dog walker called police. Detailed checks continued to be carried out with other police forces and government agencies and officers traced him to an address in Chingford, East London. Police raided his new home in Longfield Avenue and McCarthy was arrested and later charged. The 59-year-old pleaded guilty to two counts of sexual activity

Better Roads boost for West Sussex in August RESIDENTS have given the thumbs-up to repairs carried out on their roads in August. West Sussex County Council’s Better Roads Programme is targeting rural and residential roads across the county most in need of repair. £30 million will be spent over two years to improve the quality of these roads, which is almost double what the County Council will spend on its annual road maintenance programme during that time. Seventy-nine locations were improved and made safer by the County Council’s highways contractors during August. The County Council received a number of e-mails from residents satisfied with the job done. Neville Till, of Downsville Drive, Midhurst, was happy with the speed and efficiency of the work resurfacing his road. He said: “The workmen were tidy and polite, the whole workforce worked hard all day, with all of the machinery driving back and forth. “It was a pleasure to watch a well-orchestrated team move around the work site with each person in the right place at the right time.

“We now have a very good surface to our road and hopefully this will last for quite some time.” Geoff Collett, of New Road, Southbourne, said: “For nearly 30 years I have watched council workmen coming every few months to repair the potholes in New Road and every time I say, ‘Why don’t they do a proper job?’ “Well, at last you have and I want to thank you for it.” To find out if your road is due to be repaired, visit www. westsussexhighways.org/

All dates are subject to change due to weather conditions and to allow contractor Balfour Beatty the flexibility to respond to any unforeseen circumstances. The following roads were completed during August:

Queens Field East, Aldwick – resurfacing; Queens Field West, Aldwick – resurfacing; Parklands Avenue, Bognor Regis – resurfacing; Drift Road, Pagham – repairs; Cooks Bridge Lane, Fernhurst – repairs; Fernden Lane, Fernhurst – resurfacing; Torbury Lane, Harting – repairs; Jays Lane, Haslemere – repairs; Springfarm Road, Lynchmere –

said Mrs Davis’s family had been informed. John Montague, senior district crown prosecutor for the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) in Wessex, said: “I have authorised Hampshire Constabulary to charge Justin Robertson with the murder of Penelope Davis, 47, from Blackfield, on 2 September. “I carefully reviewed all the available evidence provided to me by Hampshire Constabulary and in accordance with the Code for Crown Prosecutors I am satisfied that there is sufficient evidence for a realistic prospect of conviction and it is in the public interest to prosecute Justin Robertson with the murder of Penelope Davis.” Following the death of the supermarket worker, her family said in a statement: “We are devastated by the death of our beloved mother, wife, daughter, sister and friend. “Pennie was a remarkable person. She was a devoted mother of five children who worked hard to ensure that they had everything they needed. “She cared for and supported

Those were the days, my friend The kitchen table in front of me is covered in books and papers. I am a student again. A mature, part-time, postgraduate student. Things have changed since I was at university as a teenager. But I remember that first fresher’s week like it was yesterday. I had a giant spot on my face, the size of an exoplanet, rising like red Mars in perfect planetary alignment with meeting all the other students for the first time. Getting spots when you least want them is about the only thing that hasn’t changed. Now there are contracts to sign and passwords for the virtual library and Moodle, of course, the online filesharing space with all our assignments in. In fact, there’s been a hitch to my log-in, so not wanting to bust the deadline for my first assignment any more than this column’s, I hoof it over to the University of Chichester. That’s another thing that’s changed. Have you been in their still shiny new Learning Resource Centre on their Bognor campus? As Peter Sellers once sang with Sophia Loren,

There is always that boy; that boy that the girls swarm around and giggle over even though he has no idea about anything. Such a boy is found at sixth form; if you’re searching, look towards the huddle of females twirling their hair and giving each other evils. His fusey is immaculate, his eyes dart around like confident beads and his arm lazes around whatever chick is currently snuggling into him. I hate him so bad. The other day I was sat with my friends when I noticed a foot resting on my chair. Just resting there, as if the chair itself were made to seat that foot and not the person on it. I didn’t need to follow that annoying leg to trace it back to its owner. We all know who thinks they have the authority to just laze their leg around comfortably on other peoples’ chairs. I didn’t even dignify him with a look of derision, I just turned back to whatever conversation I was having, and clearly not getting a response upset that leg, or at least just left it bored. He withdrew it after a few minutes. IDIOT. Boys and girls – there’s always one that gets the opposite sex, and they always swell up and get cocky. To these people you want

Goodness Gracious Me! Since I was last in it, it has metamorphosed into a vast, incredibly smart place to think and study – and perk yourself up with a cup of coffee – opposite leafy Hotham Park.

Ah, those were the days Yes, things have changed since the last time around. They were the days…. Of boil-in-the-bag fish suppers, where once the water boiled away completely, the fire alarm went off and all of us were evacuated. Of days spent trying to create the impression you were awake in lectures on Classical Greece when you’d been out till 3am in Blackpool. Of always wearing massive platform boots. Except when working as a waitress in a Chinese restaurant to supplement your grant then getting

Mia Edwards to yell, ‘I know it’s exciting for you, but it’s a phase. Soon there will be a new person on the block to steal all of your entourage, and then what will you be left with?’ A kiss on the cheek maybe. I really hope this never happens to me (liar). Nobody wants that for themselves (everyone does). If you’re the centre of attention ALL of the time, you sort of lose your sense of reality, and then when you’re no longer a God, you won’t know how to act around mere mortals. It is a dark dark place, but I suppose that it’s hard to picture this crazy realm when you’re getting as much action as you please. I really do wish IDIOT the best of lives, filled with wonderment and joy. I hope that every girl on his arm gets a piece of his attention so that all of their lip biting and lap sitting does not go to waste. But if any of you ever, ever, EVER puts a foot on my chair again, there will be consequences.

free lemon chicken after your shift. Of growing up, a liberating 300-miles away from the nest.

Hypnotist I remember our drama department put on a production of Shakespeare’s Henry IV Part I. Fellow student Andy Serkis, now known to millions as Gollum, Monkey and Caesar from Planet of the Apes was in it with me. It was before he went digital. Not unlike so much British TV drama still does, Shakespeare provides only three roles for women in this. The cast list was pinned to the noticeboard. “You’ve got it!” my loyal friend, Robbie (what happened to him?) gasped. I looked. After all, I was only a first year. “The Welsh Lady?” I said. “Who’s she?” It’s the play’s cameo role, a part that appears on stage once or twice to utter a few lines in Welsh, then sings in Welsh. I was terrified. We found a hypnotist who agreed to give me a session to lose the nerves but it went awry when all I could do

was try not to laugh as he delivered sibilant instructions in a sing-song voice. All the schools came to the matinees because it was in their syllabus. In the last performance, I hit a flat note and carried on regardless in spite of the teenage titters. But I can still remember the Welsh.

Best days When we were kids we were always told, “Your school days are the best days of your lives,” weren’t we? Though it carries adult responsibilities, university is a spicier version of that youthful, ‘everything before you’ time in your life. Why should such fun, such opportunity, such mental stimulation be just for teenagers and twentysomethings? It shouldn’t, of course, and I’m a huge fan of life-long learning. I say that not only as a student again but as a teacher of adults. One of the students I teach radio and journalism to in London is 87 years young. He sometimes turns up with a dressing gown under his coat in the winter. Coming to college is the highlight of

his week, he says.

Choices There are so many. From an openuniversity degree to evening classes with special discount rates if you’re unemployed or a pensioner. A quick glance at Chichester College’s offerings, for instance, doesn’t disappoint. There are courses on how to construct bat boxes, blacksmithing and rearing pigs or chickens. Or you can learn French, Spanish or photography. And finally … It’s half past midnight and I’m still working on my first assignment. Beside me there is a listless cup of tea, long gone cold and, glistening in a shadowy recess of the kitchen floor, a slick trail, revealing that the slug that got in last week is still at large. In mad, midnight mode, I scatter sea salt, suddenly noticing a giant spider crouching in another corner. Ah, the delights of burning the midnight oil! And I still have 800 pages to read on the French Revolution. Hmm, maybe times haven’t changed that much.

Organised by 2XS and Shore Surf Club the fundraising has raised just over £2,500 so far for the charity.

There were loads of families who took part on kayaks, the Barratts from West Wittering brought the family dog too and completed the event on SUPs. Some competitors raced flat out while others just enjoyed the sunny flat water conditions on the one mile course. The whole event was covered by a full safety team, lifeguards from West Wittering

The event has two rounds - the race results in each category, plus the amount of money raised - so combined the two results we get an overall winner. Paul Burgess was the overall men’s winner after a number of falls on the finish line -

National News News in Brief • LONDON’S New Year’s Eve fireworks display is to be limited to a viewing area of 100,000 ticketed spectators for the first time. The event’s popularity made it “untenable” to strain the transport and safety infrastructure with a larger number, the Mayor’s office said. The display was first staged at the London Eye in 2003 and attendance grew from 100,000 then, to an estimated 500,000 at last year’s event. The tickets will cost £10 each.

Dave Lee Travis not sleazy or predatory, court hears

• AN ESTATE AGENT was sacked after being caught on camera apparently stealing a bar of chocolate while showing a client around a flat. The outgoing tenant of the flat in Walthamstow, east London, was testing the motion-activated camera, which he intended to use in his new home. Jon Charter said it felt like “a complete betrayal”. Your Move Sterling & Co said the employee in question no longer worked for them. • POLICE investigating the murders of two British tourists in Thailand have questioned two British brothers and detained 11 Burmese people. Hannah Witheridge, 23, and David Miller, 24, were found dead on a beach on the island of Koh Tao on Monday. Brothers Christopher and James Ware were prevented from leaving Thailand and are in “police care”, but have not formally been named as suspects. Officers said they had not been arrested but were with police. • A GREATER MANCHESTER Police officer has been forced to step down over the fatal shooting of an unarmed colleague during a training exercise. PC Ian Terry 32, was killed in June 2008 during police firearms training at a disused warehouse in Manchester. The officer, known by the pseudonym “Francis”, admitted gross misconduct in relation to the way the training was organised and conducted. Another officer who fired the fatal shot has been reprimanded, police said. • A LARGE HAUL of World War One and Two hand grenades, rifles, mortar shells, guns and ammunition has been found in a house in Hertfordshire. Bomb disposal teams were called to the scene and nearby homes evacuated after police found the cache of weapons at the home in Windmill Avenue, St Albans. A 48-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of stealing items from a former prisoner of war camp. • A LETTER from comedian Stan Laurel has been sold for almost three times its estimated value at auction. The signed note was sent in 1960 to the family of Mr Laurel’s childhood friend Margaret Miller from Tynemouth who later married Laurel’s school friend. A private British buyer paid £1,400 when it went under the hammer at Newcastle auction house Anderson and Garland on Tuesday.

VETERAN DJ Dave Lee Travis is nothing like the “sleazy, predatory, opportunist” he has been accused of being, his barrister has told a court. In his closing speech at the DJ’s trial, Stephen Vullo QC said the 69-year-old was “the perfect

gentleman”. He told the jury to focus on the fact that so many women had come forward of their own accord to defend the former BBC broadcaster. Mr Travis denies two counts of indecent assault and one of sexual

Shropshire village could become centre of UK

A VILLAGE in Shropshire would become the exact centre of the UK if Scotland became independent, Ordnance Survey (OS) has calculated. Scottish independence is the subject of a referendum on Thursday. OS said the centre of Great Britain had been “hotly disputed” for decades, but for the first time it had calculated the results for the UK as a whole. It said a field near High Ercall would become the centre if Scotland became independent. The field south of Shawbury is at grid reference 357767 317879. With Scotland included the centre point calculated by OS is in the middle of Morecambe Bay, at map coordinates 341575 466760. The term Great Britain currently refers to England, Scotland, Wales and their collective islands, while

the UK also includes Northern Ireland. “We don’t map Northern Ireland, but we got the data and applied it,” said Rob Andrews from Ordnance Survey. He said: “We use the gravitational method of working it out. If you imagine cutting out the whole of the UK with a giant pair of scissors and balancing it on a church spire, it’s the balancing point. “There are other methods, though, which can deliver different results.” Meriden, near Coventry, and Fenny Drayton in Leicestershire both claim to be the geographical centre of England, while Haltwhistle, in Northumberland, and Dunsop Bridge in Lancashire have strong claims to be the centre of Britain depending on which method is used.

assault. Mr Vullo said: “Somebody with a propensity throughout his whole life to act in a sleazy, predatory way would struggle, wouldn’t they, to bring the type of character evidence that he has called before you.” He reminded jurors at Southwark Crown Court in London that all three of the former BBC Radio 1 DJ’s personal assistants, who worked for him at different stages over a combined period of 20 years, had wanted to give evidence to defend him. “They described him as warm,

friendly, tactile,” Mr Vullo said. The defendant, who was a DJ on BBC Radio 1 until 1993, was also a regular host of Top of the Pops. Mr Vullo asked the jury, made up of six men and six women, to recall the evidence given by Dee Dee Wilde, who was a member of the dance troupe Pan’s People and often appeared with Mr Travis on Top of the Pops. He said she had known him at the height of his fame and referred to him as a “gentleman” who never did anything to alarm her fellow dancers. She described him as a “loveable big bear of a man”. The DJ’s barrister also said Mr Travis had sold his house to fund his defence and was now surviving on “dwindling resources”. The DJ, from Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire is being retried on two counts - indecent assault of a woman between November 1990 and January 1991, and sexual assault of another complainant between June and November 2008. A jury was unable to reach verdicts on those charges at a trial earlier this year. Mr Travis is also accused of a further indecent assault alleged to have taken place in January 1995. He denies all the charges, which relate to three women. On Tuesday the court heard the closing speech from the prosecution. The case continues

It’s not long before Issa has attracted the keen attention of the British, German and American security services, who are all keen to uncover his real identity. Is he a victim or a covert terrorist? While the demand for energy drinks is growing, Mintel’s research found the market for sports drinks is declining. Sports drinks claim to improve sporting performance or to speed up recovery. Most of these drinks are labelled ‘isotonic’ or ‘hypotonic’ and are claimed to rehydrate and replenish nutrients after exercise. Sales were down from 173 million litres in 2011 to a predicted 156 million litres this year, falling in value terms by 15 per cent from £236 million to £218 million over the same period. Mintel’s research also shows that sports and energy drinks are mostly consumed in the home. Less than one in four of those who drink sports drinks (24 per cent) consume them at the gym, the survey found. Research analyst David Zhang, of Mintel, said: “The growth of the sports and energy drinks market has slowed down dramatically over the past couple of years since peaking in 2011, due to the ailing sports drink market.”

But experts have warned that some 500ml cans of energy drinks contain the equivalent of more than 13 teaspoons of sugar and 160mg of caffeine – which is about the same as in four cans of cola. TIRED BRITONS will spend £1.5 million on sports and energy drinks this year, despite the latter being linked with a host of health problems including sudden death. In the past year, 61 per cent of British people have consumed a sports drink and 46 per cent an energy drink, according to the survey by consumer analysts Mintel. The report also reveals 54 per cent of British people claim to often feel tired, rising to 60 per cent among women. Three out of four people said they are more fun to be around when they’re feeling energetic, rising to 82 per cent among women, while two-thirds (64 per cent) said they get irritated easily when they’re tired. But while energy drinks might provide a temporary boost, there are documented health risks. The drinks have been associated with a number of negative effects, including cardiovascular symptoms such as an irregular heartbeat, sleep impairment, nervousness and nausea. A 2011 study carried out in the U.S. reported on a number of cases where

A body without enzymes is like the ocean without water…

They had previously been relegated to the lowly position of “just another protein”. But now there is an evergrowing group of quantum biologists who fully understand that while the exterior physical make-up of an enzyme is protein-based, the purpose of an enzyme is astonishing and literally, as I say to my clients, the spark of all life. The academic community is quite lost when it comes to understanding the role enzymes play. If you look up the word “enzyme” in most medical dictionaries, it describes these powerhouses as the catalyst of all life. Yet in classrooms, we train our scientists and doctors that an enzyme is a building block rather than the fuel that ignites life. When a sperm and egg unite, it is actually an enzyme activity that starts human life. Ironically, after our last breath, it is an enzyme activity that breaks our physical bodies down to once again join the earth. We should actually consider enzymes to be one of the four legs supporting the table of physical health, the other three being hormones, oxygen, and phytochemicals. Independently and

Denise Kelly Naturopathic Nutritional Therapist combined, these elements, in the proper balance, give us maximum levels of health. In allopathic medicine, there is no question about the body being foremost electromagnetic. The proof of this is in the diagnostic technology that is universally utilized in finding disease. MRIs, high- speed CAT scans and PET scans all measure the

frequencies of organs and systems of the anatomy. Ironically, due to the pharmaceutical industry’s control of medicine, after the diagnosis you are not treated electromagnetically, you are treated chemically. I always state that healthy blood is a healthy person, so its important to understand that each red blood cell has two electrons strategically placed an equal distance apart. This causes the cell to rotate in a clockwise manner, to maintain a round dimension, and to flow freely throughout the bloodstream. This function requires an ongoing input of high-frequency stimuli. Nature’s way to bring this about is by saturating fresh raw living foods with enzymes. With each passing day after food is harvested, these enzymes diminish. REMEMBER: Cooking food above 118 degrees Fahrenheit (42 degrees centigrade) destroys all of the enzymes. Within our bodies there are tens of thousands of abnormal cells floating around at all times. When enzyme levels are adequate, immune system scavenger cells called macrophages destroy abnormal cells, keeping their numbers in check. Malignant tumors are in fact

and is becoming increasingly popular. Through unblocking channels with needles, the Qi in the body is able to flow freely in order to restore harmonious balance in the body. So you will find reprieve from physical symptoms, such as tense muscles, muscular pains

receptacles for surplus incompletely metabolized protein and fats. It seems that the circulatory presence of undigested fats and proteins leads to an interference with oxygen transport severe enough to threaten life itself. So a large part of cancer research is now directed towards strengthening the immune system. Scientists have shown that supplementation with enzymes on human subjects increased the macrophages by 700%

and the natural killer cells by 1300%. Basically the body without enzymes is like the ocean without water. Germany is one country that has been decades ahead in their use of enzymes on the frontline of disease stating that virtually all disease can be traced to missing or faulty enzymes.” Give yourself the gift of an enzyme-rich diet coupled with highquality digestive enzymes for 60 days… because your body deserves it.

Alternatively, acupressure/ Chinese massage can be applied to people who have a fear of needles. However, acupressure (massage) is often applied to clients after acupuncture in order to enhance the effectiveness of the treatment. In fact, in some cases, acupuncture being used to treat one condition can actually help detect another, more severe illness that has not been previously identified. In such cases, acupuncture aids in early diagnosis and treatment. Remember, acupuncture/ acupressure is just one method of relieving stress. It’s also important to learn positive and productive ways to cope with stress on a daily

basis, thereby combining them to help you enjoy a happier and healthier life. Dr Feng Wang is an associate of the ATCM and has been practising his profession for over 20 years. He has been volunteering at CancerWise in Chichester, which has helped to improve the health of many people. He also has his own clinic in Chichester city centre. Workers in the South East favour the smart casual look in the work place NEW RESEARCH shows workers in the South East are the second most likely in England to dress for work in a smart casual fashion. The research, commissioned by the Business is GREAT campaign, showed that 51 per cent of South East workers wear smart causal clothes to work compared to 45 per cent nationally – the second highest in England (the highest is the North East with 52 per cent). The data also shows: South East workers like their colleagues to dress smartly, with 72 per cent thinking ripped jeans are unacceptable in the workplace, compared to 70 per cent nationally, and 53 per cent considering slogan or branded t-shirts shouldn’t be worn, compared to 51 per cent nationally 49 per cent of South East workers will professionally judge people at work compared to 44 per cent nationally When asked which business leader was best dressed Lord

Alan Sugar came top of the list followed by Richard Branson, Kelly Hoppen, and Peter Jones. It seems Britain is a nation of traditionalists with over two thirds of workers (75 per cent) wearing a suit, uniform or smart-casual attire to work with only one in ten of us feeling comfortable enough to wear what we feel like to work. Geoff Quinn, Managing Director of TM Lewin, expert Jermyn Street shirtmaker, said: “The results of this research show we want our work clothes to demonstrate our work ethic. 32 per cent of those surveyed said they ‘dressed to impress’, choosing their business wardrobe to reflect their professional and hardworking nature “British fashion is coveted across the globe, and this is something which we have experienced first-hand. Thanks to support from UK Trade & Investment, TM Lewin has been able to expand into international

markets, opening more than 58 stores worldwide. I encourage any brand looking to expand their business to gowww.greatbusiness. gov.uk/ukti/ and see how they can start their export journey today.” This research comes as London Fashion Week (LFW) is in full swing. One of the highest profile fashion events in the world, it puts British fashion firmly on the global stage; with an estimated revenue of over £100m fashion orders placed during LFW alone. The British fashion industry is estimated to support 797,000 jobs. The Business is GREAT campaign aims to build confidence in small businesses across the country, and match their potential for success with the services that can help them grow, hire, lead and export. City back on form at Gosport

Sunday 14 September 2014 South West Division One Gosport Borough 0 – 3 Chichester City

CHICHESTER CITY returned to winning ways by beating one of last year’s promoted sides, Gosport Borough, at the Hampshire side’s first game on their new pitch at Privett Park. But it was at the back that Chichester shone most brightly. Lauren Cheshire, playing at rightback, was superb throughout; her pace putting Gosport on the back foot and her intelligent runs creating space for others whilst Emma Alexandre captained Chichester impressively. In-between them, in an area where the Sussex side have traditionally been very strong, the largely untested partnership of Becky Barron and Cherelle Jameson, slipped seamlessly into their central midfield roles. In the first half in particular, Barron was the epitome of calm, playing simple, but effective, balls to team-mates and always there to clear

up when things broke down. Her touch is top class and her perceptive passing – certainly over short- and mid-range – the match of any of her illustrious predecessors. Jameson grew in influence as the game progressed, showing wonderful control and intelligent use of the ball. Gosport, having been promoted to the South West Division One league last season, have been finding the step up hard having not registered a victory in either the league or league cup competition. Chichester began the much brighter with the fantastic new surface at Privett Park suiting their style of football. For all of the possession and pressure they were supplying the visitors were struggling to create clear cut chances with Gosport getting plenty of players behind the ball. Their best opportunities arose when the home side tried to play out from the back and Chichester kept them in their defensive third with some good pressure. It was only a matter of time before

Chichester took the lead and the goal came after 15 minutes when Ambler intercepted a pass from the Gosport centre backs and after jinking past a couple of challenges fired a fierce shot that hit the post and went in. Gosport’s most likely source of a goal came from set pieces, however Chichester did not look like conceding due to their organisation at the back. This meant debutant goalkeeper Nea Piiroinen had very little to do in the first half apart from being a good option for her defence to play back to. As half time approached, Chichester went in one goal to the good but feeling like it should have

been more. At half time Chichester introduced Ogden on the right wing and it wasn’t long before she made her first contribution. After some good work between herself and Cheshire she whipped in an accurate cross, Naomi Greene met the ball with a diving header that was just wide. Chichester continued their pressure and were denied what looked like two clear cut penalties when Greene was brought down by the home team goalkeeper followed by Ambler having her legs taken from underneath her when through on goal. Both claims were denied leading to much frustration from the visitors. The Green Army didn’t have to wait long for their second though as a great cross from Cheshire was met by an equally great run by Challen who met the ball and placed a shot into the net to give Chichester a much deserved second.

Shortly after the goal Clarke replaced Greene and had an almost instant impact. She received the ball on the right hand side and placed a shot aiming for the far post the ball hit the post and bounced harmlessly to safety. The home side then began to pour forward in numbers, perhaps sensing there was nothing to lose and almost got one back. They gained a free kick that was smashed against the bar, the ball fell back into the box and Piiroinen reacted well at her near post to save the resulting rebound. It was shortly after this that Chichester got their third when Cheshire capped a fine performance by making a devastating run into the box before firing a shot high into the net from the right hand side. At the final whistle Chichester finished with all three points, a result their performance deserved. The ladies are looking to build on a fine performance at home to Shanklin Ladies this Sunday kick off is at 14.00, Oaklands Park.
