DND to acquire countermeasures munitions for FA-50PHs MANILA, April 18 (PNA) – The Department of National Defense (DND) announced that it is allocating Php33,702,286 for the acquisition of countermeasures munitions needed for the country’s South Korean-made FA-50PH “Fighting Eagle” lift-interim fighter aircraft. The money will be sourced from the Revised AFP Modernization Program. To be acquired are 17,280 RR170 chaffs and 8,640 MJU-7 IR flares (with impulse cartridges) for the FA-50PH’s countermeasure dispenser system. Delivery of the items shall be in two batches with the first to be delivered within 180 calendar days from the notice to proceed (NTP). While the second batch is re-

quired to be delivered within 360 calendar days upon receipt of the NTP. Bidders should have completed, within the last 10 years from the date of submission and receipt of bids, a contract similar to the project. Bid opening is on April 27, 10:00 a.m. at the DND Bids and Awards Committee Conference Room, DND Building, Camp Aguinaldo, Quezon City. Items being offered must be used by the Armed Forces of the country of origin or by the Armed Forces of at least two other countries. Aquino launches Bustos Dam Rehabilitation Project MANILA, Apr 16 (Mabuhay) – President Benigno S. Aquino III on Friday launched the Angat Afterbay Regulator Dam Rehabilitation Project that aims to repair the Bustos Dam in Bulacan to improve the irrigation system and prevent flashfloods in the province. The P1-billion project begins next month and is expected to be completed by August next year. Bustos Dam, which irrigates farmlands in Bulacan and Pampanga and is a regulator dam of the larger Angat Dam, was built

in 1926. In 1967, the dam was fitted with steel gates, which rusted away through the years and were replaced with rubber gates in 1997. MANILA, April 18 (PNA) – The Supreme Court (SC) was asked on Monday to declare unconstitutional a provision in the Overseas Voters Act. Loida Nicolas Lewis, together with her legal counsel Atty. Ray Paolo Santiago, filed the petition for certiorari before the SC questioning the provision in Republic Act No. 9189, or the “Overseas Voters Act”, as amended by RA 10590, prohibiting partisan

activity abroad during the voting period. Lewis is Chair of the US Pinoys for Good Governance while Santiago is the Executive Director of the Ateneo Human Rights Center Secretary General, Working Group for an ASEAN Human Rights Mechanism. MANILA, April 18 (PNA) – A high-ranking official of the Catholic Church is letting the public, particularly the voters to decide if they will vote for presidential candidate Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte, who is facing another controversy regarding his comment on the case of rape victim which happened in his city in 1989. Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) Archbishop Socrates Villegas said that it was up for the people if they wanted to support the presidential bid of the local chief executive. “Judge for yourself if this is the right choice,” he said in his Twitter account, @frsocvillegas. The Lingayen-Dagupan prelate noted that he was keeping his personal opinion on the issue to himself. “I will keep my personal judgment to myself,” he added.
