The association was formed in 1968 to promote, protect and preserve the San Antonio River Walk. This is done through special events, public education and Rio Magazine. More than 2,000 luminarias warmly glow in bags lining the walkways to symbolically mark the “lighting of the way” for the Holy Family. This century’s old tradition begins at dusk.

Commoners campaign for placement in the River Walk Royal Court by raising funds. The top fundraisers become King and Queen with remaining court placement in subsequent order. Established in 1929, LULAC COUNCIL NO. 2 started the Fiesta Queen’s contest, Feria de las Flores. The contest now funds college scholarships (over $30,000) per year in partnership with the Alamo Community College District for the Parent-Child Scholarship Program. Applications for scholarships are available through the San Antonio College Women’s Empowerment Center and online, alamo.edu/sac/swans/scholarships/
FEO LXIX, FRED REYES 12 REY Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree
Rey Feo LXIX (69), Fred Reyes, is the People’s King for FIESTA 2017. He raised over $250,000 to achieve this honor. Since 1947, over $4 million has been raised/awarded to over 3,000 students by the Rey Feo Scholarship Foundation.
