Design Repeats By Tabatha Stewart
Customers who walk into Design Repeats for the first time often share the same sentiment with owners Suzie and Denis Ouelette. “I thought this was a used furniture store.” Design Repeats is a consignment store for high end furniture, but unlike some consignment shops, the store is elaborately designed, with furniture staged in beautiful, home-like settings, including accent pieces such as lamps, rugs and pictures. And while all of the furniture is used, there is no hint of “old” smell that sometimes comes with used items. “We are extremely picky about what we accept,” said Suzie. “Our inventory comes from private homes, often from people who are downsizing. We only accept items that are in exceptional condition, and our new customers often can’t believe they’re used items.” Consignment items are brought into the store on a 90-day contract, and according to Suzie, the goal is to sell the item within the first 30 days. After 30 days, items are reduced by 20 percent, with another 20 percent discount every 30 days. After three months, if the item hasn’t sold, it either goes back to the owner or is donated to charity. “We rarely have items that don’t sell. We put a lot of effort into making all of our inventory look attractive and inviting on the sales floor,” said Suzie.
In the 16 years since the Ouelettes have been in business, they have paid out nearly $8 million dollars to consignors. Camille Demetrion, Suzie and Denis’ daughter, joined them full time several years ago to help manage the 14,000 square foot store and social media accounts. “We are a safe place to sell your furniture, as opposed to listing it online and having strangers come to your house,” said Camille. “When you walk into our store, we want you to feel like it’s home.” The furniture is all used, but all the accessories are purchased new by Suzie and Camille. 1 can (16 ounces) chocolate fudge frosting

1 bag (16 ounces) miniature marshmallows

1 cup chopped pecans

DIRECTIONS 1. Heat oven to 350 °F.

2. Grease 13 x 9 x 2-inch baking pan. 3. In large bowl, using an electric mixer on low speed, combine cake mix, water, oil, peanut butter and eggs. Stir in chocolate pieces. Pour into prepared pan. 4. Bake 30-35 minutes, or until toothpick inserted in center of cake comes out clean. 5. Pour marshmallows over top of cake. Return to oven and bake 2-3 minutes, or until marshmallows are somewhat melted. 6. In microwave-safe bowl, melt fudge frosting in microwave. 7. Drizzle frosting over melted marshmallows.
