“We are here to help anyone and everyone which in most cases has been help with lost documents, or robbery complaints,’’ said Alejandra De Ibarra, The Center’s Secretary of Tourism, Economy and Sustainability representative. ‘’And when I say robberies, I mean when a tourist leaves a deposit for a fishing tour and the person they gave the money to does not show up the following morning; we help them get their deposit back in a quick 8

Their jewelry pieces tell stories, and express feelings of places that are located in this region, that have been described as rare, unique and distinct. ‘’We have clients who always come back and ask whats new?,’’ mentioned Indira while describing the jewelry they alone manufacture. ‘’We try and suit jewelry to their likes and personalize them for each customer. Every creation has its own history and value,’’ added Indira. ‘’What we are working on now, is what we call the skin collection, which is what my husband took with him to the prestigious New York Fashion Show. Long considered the Beverly Hills of Mexico, Cabo San Lucas, has certainly upheld that distinction by the addition of such high-end shopping areas, like Luxury Avenue. And what better place than to find Luxury Avenue, than at its picturesque, Golden Zone area of the Puerto Paraiso Mall, that provides the spectacular eye candy of its gleaming harbor, filled with boats and yachts that completes the wonderful experience of shopping there. 30 Anniversary th

If there was ever a city landmark in Cabo San Lucas, it’s the internationally famous, Cabo Wabo Cantina, which opened in 1990, is generally referred to simply as Cabo Wabo and is owned by the rock star legend, Sammy Hagar.

By Fernando Rodríguez

After its MTV advertised premier 30 years ago, Cabo Wabo has since become a mandatory tourist stop for just about everyone who visits Cabo San Lucas, even cruise ship passengers who only come ashore and stroll through town a few hours. Having been featured on MTV, VH1, E-Channel, Travel Channel, and hundreds of other social media outlets and the Cabo Wabo Cantina has distinguished itself as the Hollywood Walk of Fame Mexican-style destination for all travelers who arrive during the calendar year which has propelled Cabo’s world-wide fame as a spring break, wonderful beaches and sunny weather dream-like vacation paradise.

‘’In 1990, Cabo San Lucas was pretty small for such an elaborate nightclub. Later, when this town at the tip of Baja California grew into the prominent vacation destination that it is today, it seemed as if I had looked into a crystal ball,’’ said owner Sammy Hagar. ‘’The truth is that the concept was evolutionary and the reality of what it has become is based on small steps, a lot of mistakes, a few good people and tons of luck.’’

FRANCISCO ESTRADA

Executive Manager and partner, Jorge Viaña, spoke of the Cantina’s inability to celebrate its 30-year anniversary last April 2020, due to the Coronavirus pandemic. Since then, other changes that Jorge alluded to was the closure of the southern stair entrance and original restaurant location. Now the restaurant is located inside the dance floor area in front of the live band stage, where all tables are strategically spaced apart per social distancing Covid-19 safety protocol. Cabo Wabo also installed hot water sanitizing steam drinking glasses and plate dishwashing machines. ‘’We were in Cabo to celebrate the Christmas Holidays and New Year’s and Cabo Wabo’s COVID precautions were so good. Temperature checks upon entering, the disinfecting of shoes and hands really put us at ease. The beers, nachos and especially the fish tacos were amazing. And their food and drink service was of course, simply superb.

Celebrating 30 years of rocking Cabo San Lucas.

Beer was ice cold. Their friendly and attentive staff followed covid safety precautions, and while the slightly toned down entertainment atmosphere was to be expected because of our current covid times, we had a wonderful time, once again,’’ said Hector Lopez, originally from Madera, California, who spearheads the Deported Veterans foundation offices in Tijuana, Mexico. Cabo Wabo Cantina is normally open from 9:00 AM - 2:00 AM, but closes at 11:00 PM along with all other downtown businesses during the Mexican government mandated health and safety anti-coronavirus measures. hale watching season in Los Cabos officially begins in December. That cool winter time of year when those enormous visitors return to their annual place of giving birth, is quite possibly the 3rd biggest attraction to this Southern Baja California region of year round summer paradise, behind the sport fishing tournaments and golf. The Sperm and Humpback whales who venture this way year after year, generally spend a good part of about five to six months in Cabo San Lucas during this life-giving time and visitors from all regions of the United States and Canada make their way in Los Cabos and not see--but be a part---of this magical whale watching time of year.

OSCAR ORTÍZ (2)

Most of the companies that offer whale watching tours in San Lucas use the same small group, small boat approach to better enrich the tourists whale watching experience and also maintain non-invasive interactions with the humongous whales that visiting families and guests get so charged up about seeing. This respectful form of following the whales and capturing on video or camera this once in a lifetime views of the unique adventure seems to work out best for everyone involved, especially the whales. This friendly concept allows for a tremendously cool outing in which people enjoy the thrills of seeing the acrobatic displays of mating whales, and the surreal visions of mother whales and new born baby whales interacting after birth. It is undoubtedly what makes whale watching in Cabo San Lucas one of the best places in all of the world to see whales. The endless days of sunshine and warm weathered waters, is the Los Cabos trademark and tradition which attracts these whales and the visitors who fly down here to not only see but be near them again and again year after year.

Cabo Rey and Cabo Expedition, are two of the twelve tour company that provide whale watching services. The range in cost are generally set at $89 US dollars for adults and $60 USD for children ages 8-12 years old. One of the highly sought after tours is the three and a half hour Sunset whale watching tour, which is priced at $95 USD; which includes appetizers & drinks, listening to humpbacks on a hydrophone, while quietly drifting into the sunset around the Sea of Cortez and Pacific Ocean waters.

The whales migrate south to Baja California’s Los Cabos waters from as far away as 6,000 miles for the winter warm waters found in the Sea of Cortez, do so in bunches. Traveling from as far away as the frigid northern waters of Alaska to mate and give birth to their young. Most of the gigantic creatures are mammals, whose length ranges anywhere from 40-50 feet long and are said to weigh as much as 73,000 pounds.

amazing animals. Both near-identically named tour companies are “whale friendly” and safety conscious whale watching tour companies, vying to make every tour an experience to remember. Newborn whales enter the world of Cabo San Lucas at about 15 feet in length and weigh around 1,500 pounds. Their mother’s whale milk is known to be more than 50% fat and at least 12 times richer than cow’s milk, which allows the baby whale to build up blubber and strength for their long return trip north; once spring in Los Cabos arrives in May.

organisms that have teeth because their diet consists of crustaceans, fish and small animals. These organisms have a breathing spiracle, they are also very social animals, since they come to live in groups or clans of 50 to 500 individuals, as is the case with killer whales, dolphins and sperm whales (Physeter macrocephalus) something particular of these The latter is that they can have their own form of communication and are considered excellent divers since they can stay up to 1hr underwater.

Marine mammals are divided into two groups that are the Odontocetes and the Mysticetes. Odontocetes are

The Mysticetes have baleen in the mouth, formed of keratin and through them filter the food as they

are small crustaceans, krill or anchovies, they have two breathing spiracles and some whales sing, within this group we can observe the blue whale (Balaenoptera musculus), is cosmopolitan and migratory, reaches a length of 33.5 m (109 ft) is the largest animal that exists on the planet, they are commonly seen from December to April near Loreto Island. The gray whale (Eschirichtius robustus), performs one of the longest migrations among mammals, every year it travels between 15 and 20 thousand kilometers round trip from the icy seas between Alaska and Russia, to the waters of Baja California Sur.

OSCAR ORTÍZ

Marine mammals are so charismatic that they cause us a lot of curiosity, a special place to observe them is the Gulf of California and the Pacific Ocean, these animals belonging to the group of mammals share certain characteristics with humans such as maintaining a constant body temperature, they have lungs, which makes it necessary for them to often come to the surface to breathe (every 15-20 minutes) and at some stage of their development they have hair, the young are breastfed at birth.

O U T D O O R S

It can measure up to 15 meters long and weigh 35 tons, the skin is gray, with white spots that allow each individual to differentiate. The body is covered with barnacles, scales or lice. They have several protuberances, but they lack a true dorsal fin, it remains close to the coast, at a maximum distance of 20 kilometers. It inhabits two areas in the world: the coasts of Asia (from Russia to China) and the coasts that go from Alaska to Baja California Sur, in Mexico

OSCAR ORTÍZ

You will also observe the humpback whales (Megaptera novaegliae) in the Gulf of California and on the Pacific Ocean side, in Baja California Sur from Los Cabos to the Marietas Islands, it is one of the most admired whales for the acrobatics it performs, they have pectoral fins very long that cover approximately a quarter of the total of its body, the caudal fin is an icon of beauty as well as a fingerprint, because in each of them the marks and colors they present make them unique. Humpback whales sing and emit sounds that last up to 30 minutes, it is very likely that the song is for mating and is more noticeable in males, although it could also be a form of communication between members of a group some other type of social behavior.

The spectacular seasonal whale watching experience.

Whale songs have rhymes, verses, rhythm and variations. It is not about random sounds, but they are predictable and original at the same time. Whales of the same species never sing the same songs.

The Gulf of California and specifically Cabo San Lucas is an ideal area for the study and conservation of several species of cetaceans, where you can not only live the experience of watching humpback whales, but also listen to some of their beautiful songs.

OSCAR ORTÍZ

Already near the whales we put ourselves in a lateral position to observe and enjoy the show, Woowww, it is impossible not to let out shouts of joy or surprise, on lucky days there is a lot of activity, breachs, pec slaps, fluke slaps and sometimes curious whales or calfs that pass under the boat, magical moments, that you want to keep forever in videos or photographs that you will never erase, the reaction of the participants is surprising, because regardless of race, color or age, there is something magical to observe these large mammals, reveals the best of the inner child that we all carry inside and your ability to surprise you returns as when we were childrens, capacity that as an adult immersed in the monotony of life you lose, but when you are close to the whales in the beautiful natural scenery , that magic returns, we are all equal human beings and we join in the celebration just as children, time is up it’s time to say goodbye s and to allow the whales to continue their journey, thanks for the meeting, we embark on the return with happy faces of the entire crew , after the experience it is very difficult to erase the

hen we hear the word “Nicksan” what pops immediately into our mind are three things: Japanese cuisine with mexican ingredients, iconic restaurant in Los Cabos and of course it’s star chef Ángel Carbajal. Very few people know that at the beginning of Nicksan’s creation, there was a person trained hands-on by Ángel Carbajal. As of today, he has continued to show dedication to one of the most importanat restaurants in our destination. Edgar, better known as “Edie” Carbajal has been present since the adventure started. But who is Edie? And for him, what is Nicksan?

In his spare time, he enjoys exploring Los Cabos. But, when he enters the kitchen he let’s his mind blow. ‘’We have participated in gastronomic events, because we were trying to promote our cuisine. In reality, we offer much more than just seafood. This past year we attended Sabor A Cabo for the first time and we won four out of the five categories, one which was our octopus recipe that we cooked in an Al Pastor-style, which turned out being the favorite of all the different flavors available at Sabor A Cabo,’’ commented Roberto Padilla, Santo director of public relations. Adding that, ‘’One of the great things about our Santo Restaurant is that we are very family oriented and kid-friendly. We offer a child’s upstairs play area that is live streamed on our hanging plasma televisions so that parents can keep an eye on their children who are also up there supervised by our kid’s child care room attendant. What some would call our restaurant baby sitter. In this way, our guests can bring their children and eat in peace and harmony. So in essence, everyone is welcome at our restaurant. And they can enjoy dinner, watch a sporting event on one of our televisions, and still keep a close eye on their children.’’ ‘’While our specialty is seafood, our menu is of international options that includes Mexican dishes, and as far as seafood goes, everything on our menu is fresh, thanks to the bountiful blessings from our Pacific Ocean and Sea of Cortez. The same of course, can be said of our fresh organic fruits and vegetables which are delivered by locally grown vendors from such nearby places as El Pescadero, Todos Santos, Miraflores,

San Carlos and San Jose del Cabo,’’ said Santo Executive Chef, Luis Lopez Perez. ‘’We have Oysters, Paellas, and children’s favorites like pancakes.
