Enbridge Energy offers homeowners rebates for making home improvements which will help in reducing their energy bills. Eligibility criteria Homeowners who wish to receive a rebate from Enbridge for improving home efficiency should complete at least two qualifying home upgrades, heat their home using a natural gas boiler or furnace, own a row townhouse, mobile home, semidetached or detached house. Stepwise procedure The first step for getting the rebate is contacting a certified energy advisor (CEA) who will check the home energy assessment before the upgrade. The energy audit page of Enbridge lists auditors/CEAs in the region. After this, the homeowner should complete at least two of the renovations Enbridge specifies. These renovations include improving the exterior wall insulation, attic insulation, basement insulation, air sealing, and crawl wall space to reduce energy loss. Additionally, more energy-efficient models should replace the furnace, boiler, or water heater. The rebate amount will vary depending on the amount of energy that is being saved due to the home improvement. Replacing the door, window or skylight with an energy star-certified model will also make the homeowner eligible for a rebate. After the home improvements are completed, the same CEA should be hired to do the energy audit of the home again. During this energy audit, the CEA will check the improvement in the home’s energy efficiency due to the renovation or home improvement. Depending on the extent of the improvement in the energy efficiency, and if more than two energy upgrades were completed, the homeowner might receive a rebate of a maximum of $5000. Typically the energy assessment of the improved home will take between one or two hours and should be completed within 120 days of conducting the initial home energy audit.
