Union Bank & Trust (UBT) has helped entrepreneurs, community builders, and families with banking, lending, investment and trust services since 1917. After 48 years of quietly serving the College View community in southeast Lincoln, the bank was purchased in 1965 by the Dunlap family. That proved to be the birth of a workplace culture that valued employees and their families, and a vision to help customers and communities achieve their dreams.

In 1965 there was one bank location on south 48th street. Now, UBT is the largest bank in Lincoln employing over 800 people in 36 offices in more than 20 communities in Nebraska and the Kansas City metro area. 2017 is UBT’s 100th anniversary. While its history is a wonderful foundation of success, it is focused on what comes next – the next 100 years. UBT wants to show you how they can help – just like they’ve done for the last 100 years, and like they will keep doing for the next 100.

Hello all! We are inching closer to summer, and it’s hard to tell who’s more excited, the kids or Museum staff. Summer is a wonderfully crazy time at the Museum, with summer camps happening every week, families visiting from out of town, and Lincoln kids on vacation desperate for some air conditioned fun. We can’t wait.

This year our summer will be a little different, however. After much careful thought and consideration, we have decided that we will not have our Music and Mozzarella concert series this summer. We are just as disappointed as you, but as a non-profit we had to evaluate if the costs involved were worth it, and we eventually agreed that we could do more good by placing that money elsewhere in our budget instead. We will miss watching all those little ones dancing their hearts out in our parking lot, but hopefully we can still get some music going from time to time.

Meanwhile, we’re starting up other new and exciting projects that you can read about in the rest of this newsletter. One big thing is the So You Think You Can STEAM project sponsored by Big Red Keno. This program is going to give kids a real chance to shine as they present their STEAM related projects and try to make it to the next round. See page 5 for more in-depth information including how to get your kid signed up. We’re also keeping our daily programs during the summer, as they have been such a hit so far this year. So your kids will have a chance to participate in all kinds of hands-on educational activities while they’re here, in addition to the fantastic imagination play and creative development of the rest of the exhibits. We hope to see you and your family come through our doors soon. Enjoy your spring!

Camp Out! June 2nd

Celebrate April Fools’ and Tax Day all at once with this fun themed night filled with a kids open mic, fun puns and limericks, and Minute to Win It games!

You’re never too old to want to visit the Circus! The Museum circus will be even more fun with obstacle courses, balloon painting, carnival games, and even some juggling. Wear your clown nose for this one for sure!

Nothing signifies summer quite like camping. Wear your camping gear and come participate in a tent building challenge, make your own binoculars, and learn all about the animals you could find in the wild from Nebraska Wildlife Safari.

Join us every First Friday night this year for First National Bank’s First Friday Family Night from 5-7:30 pm.

Upcoming Events

Give to Lincoln Day is coming up again on May 18th. This wonderful day of community giving has been so successful the last few years, and Lincoln Children’s Museum is thrilled to be part of it. Take this opportunity to teach your kids about giving back by sharing with them the excitement of Give to Lincoln Day. They can even choose to give to the Museum, since we are a non-profit!
