Project Schedule and Cost Management

Business Analysis Fundamentals

Schedule and budget analysis and control have long been significant elements of project management. Indeed, the identification of project status depends on schedule and budget elements in addition to elements of adherence to specifications. However, both schedule and budget elements have traditionally been regulated to functions not directly involved with the day-today performance activities of projects. Hence, many project personnel and managers today do not have the basic understanding of schedule and budget development, analysis and control necessary to adequately carry out the responsibilities of modern project management. This course covers the processes and techniques necessary to ensure timely completion of projects within approved budgetary constraints. Outcomes: Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to: • Calculate project schedules based on work breakdown structure and PERT/CPM analysis • Identify, assign and tabulate resource requirements • Develop and use time-phased project budgets • Predict future project performance based on historical data

This two-day course aims to provide a realistic and interactive overview of what business analysis is, and what a business analyst does in the framework of defining system solutions. Business analysis represents a critical factor for project success; being the conduit for disconnects that can exist between the producers of the solution and the business users who need the functionality that the project will provide. This course is designed around the seven knowledge areas identified by the International Institute of Business Analysis (IIBA): Business Analysis Planning & Monitoring, Elicitation, Requirements Management & Communication, Enterprise Analysis, Requirements Analysis, Solution Assessment & Validation and Underlying Competencies. This course will use a case study approach to allow participants to perform a current state analysis to identify the “as is” situation, interview users to elicit requirements about the future state, and write requirements for the solution. Topics covered: definition of a business analyst, BABOK structure and format, phases of the system development life cycle, managing the transition, project management overview.

Petroleum Land Management Practices Petroleum land management begins in a courthouse where an examination of mineral ownership takes place. It then moves to the next stage – the acquisition of oil and gas leases. From there, state regulatory commissions, other oil and gas companies, the Bureau of Land Management and/or surface owners become involved in the process. The formation of a unit is created, a title opinion is rendered, title curative must be done, and the well is drilled and hopefully completed as producing in commercial quantities. Finally, proper payment of revenue must be made to all parties that are entitled to receive such payments. From start to finish, many steps must take place. This class is designed to help the student understand the process and take each step in proper order. #88239 Oct 11 - Oct 13

A producing oil or gas well may produce millions of dollars in revenue and have scores of owners who are entitled to receive their portion of the revenue from production. Understanding the principles of calculating these oil and gas interests is a vital component for the land management professional. Each calculation may be tied to key clauses in the oil and gas lease or language associated with other agreements. This is more than a math class. Students will learn how to tell each owner’s story with numbers and have a full understanding of the rules related to title conveyances, burdens, net revenue interests, overriding royalty interests, farmouts, payouts and non-consenting interests.
